Soros Gives $1M to Obama Super PAC

The professional international con artist and multi gazillionaire George Soros has all of a sudden decided to give $1 million to Priorities USA Action, an Obama supporting super-pac.

The article cites Soros' anti-Israel stance and make a case for that being the reason for the "contribution" (in the wake of Obama's perceived anti-Israel comments recently).

I myself disagree that Soros is anti-Israel.

He maintains that illusion but more than likely profits from that stance.

Many people in his (Soros) position often use some of their best friends as scapegoats.

Maybe the tactic helps keep the competition off guard and is certainly easy to control on both "sides".

Remember when President Obama’s re-election campaign and its allies complained about billionaire Sheldon Adelson giving cash to Republican super PACs? This time? Or this time? Or this time? Or this time? Or this time?

They apparently have no such qualms about radical left financier George Soros doing the same thing. Today, news broke that Soros is handing $1 million to Priorities USA Action, President Obama’s chief super PAC. He’s also giving $500,000 to two other super PACs backing Democrats for Congress. The announcement came at a luncheon headlined by former President Bill Clinton, and attended by Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY), and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA). Schumer announced plans back in February 2012 to investigate whether super PACs work with campaigns; Pelosi has pushed legislation to target super PACs. At the luncheon, Democratic-affiliated super PACs were expected to pick up some $10 million. Soros had already handed over $1 million to American Bridge, an organization that essentially does contracting work for super PACs, and is run by Soros favorite and Media Matters founder David Brock.

I've gotta say... "So what"? This is what Super Pacs and Citizens United is all about. MANY millionaires and billionaires are donating money to both sides' Super Pacs. What is special about this donation?

I don't know anyone that will be suprised about this.

What about that casino mogule who gave 100 million to Romney because as he stated if Romney is elected he will save 9 billion in tax cuts Romney proposed.

That is buying a candidate. IMO.

I just love how the article talks about Soros and the donation, but has to toss in the "anti-Israel" to complete the appearance of impropriety with Soros and Obama.

Dirty little tricks.......

Hey Xue...never knew you were with me on being opposed to Citizen's United! Glad to have you on board!...

Now when you are done bemoaning that George Soros gave a superPAC 1 MILLION DOLLARS (picture me as Austin Powers)...perhaps you can do a thread on Mitt's best friend Sheldon?

Soros: 1m

Koch Bros:

The billionaire energy titans, David and Charles Koch, plan to spend more than $100 million through their nonprofit Americans for Prosperity and other groups, none of which will disclose their donors, to defeat President Barack Obama.

thats a 100/1 ratio.

Ya..worry about Soros...don't worry about the big oil baron Koch brothers bankrolling anything even remotely soros...its that 1 million that is a thorn.

And yet, even at 100/1, Romney is still losing poorly..
No matter how many diamonds you put on a pig, its still a pig.

This seems to be the overall difference in party.
the left counts on a bunch of small and medium donations
the right leans on very few mega doners.

If only to prove a point, the left must win everything...this will demonstrate that money means jack, policy is needed. I don't want the best republic money can buy, I want it the best the people can make it.

Yep...during the Primaries Sheldon gave Gingrich almost 10 Million in a two week span...all spent on ads slamming Romney. When Romney got the nomination Sheldon wrote Romney a 10 Million dollar check and the money has been flowing ever since.

Sheldon has a lot riding on it...He is under federal investigation for racketeering and bribery with regards to his Casinos in China. He also stands to make Billions if the US cracks doen on China's currency...Thus Mitts recent and strange pivot to China Currency issues...it's his way of asking for more money from Sheldon.

On June 12, 2012, Adelson donated $10 million tor the pro-Romney PAC Restore Our Future.[37] In July, Adelson confirmed his support for Romney by attending a Romney fundraiser held in Jerusalem where he said he will donate millions to the Romney campaign.[38] Romney believes that China should be called a "currency manipulator" because of its presumptively low fixed exchange rate policy, and supports pressuring China to drop the currency peg; according to Bloomberg, Adelson would benefit financially in US dollar terms through his interest in Chinese casinos if the Chinese yuan were to appreciate.[39]

en.wikipedia.org...

What is having a federal investigation dropped and making Billions on his Chinese casino's worth? My guess Sheldon won't throw good money after bad...despite Romney singing to him from the podium with the China Currency bit...Sheldon is starting to realize Romney is going to lose no matter what...

But here is a question...what happens to unspent SuperPac money after an election?

"Candidates don't have any legal right to possess that money at all," said Jan Witold Baran, a partner at Washington D.C.-based law firm Wiley Rein. The leftover money goes to the individual in charge of the super PAC, typically the treasurer, who is identified in the committee's FEC filing.

As Baran notes, the head of the PAC can do any number of things with the leftover cash. "The purpose of the PAC may change but they can continue operating as long as they have money," he said. "They may support the GOP nominee in the general election." Karl Rove's super PAC American Crossroads, for instance, supports a range of political candidates and issues.

But contributing to other campaigns isn't the only thing a super PAC is free to do. Unlike campaign money for presidential, senatorial or congressional campaigns, super PACs are allowed to use the leftover funds for personal expenditures, said Michael Toner, another partner at Wiley Rein. "The FEC has a prohibition on personal expenditures for campaign funds but it does not extend to super PACs," he said. "I could accept a yacht from a super PAC, for instance."

I am starting to think that the folks running these SuperPacs have fleeced thier conservative base...They can do what they like with the money...

There's only one solution.

[Bill IGWT-$$$$$$$]

Pass legislation to make donating any amount from any person to the Democrats or their PACs a federal crime and then funnel all those confiscated proceeds directly to the GOP.

[/Bill IGWT-$$$$$$]

America needs only one party (because who needs elections anyway?) and that will surely work to eventually destroy the opposition completely.

Won't it?

So the multiple fund raisers that Obama has been hitting w/Hollywood players counts as medium donations? The use of Hollywood faces in politics has been dragging down the election process worse than super pacs. Because it caters to the idiot demographic that looks at politics as akin to American idol. Ever wonder why the potus spends so much time on the talk show circuit than actually running the country? The vast majority of Americans don't know squat about politics and want a "face" in the WH. The super pac angle is been hypocritical from the get go, both sides will play it that's how it is.

The Koch Brothers have pledged $100 million to defeat Obama.

Soros: 1 million.
Kochs: 100 million.

I guess we could be justified in saying the Kochs are 100X worse than Soros?

PS: None of this would be an issue if it weren't for those conservatives on the Supreme Court and their 'Citizen's United' decision. So therefore, cons whining about SuperPACs, pro-Obama or not, is what I call 'come-uppance'.

OMG! My neighbor's pig just flew by my window! ... oh, xuen and Breitbart angry over insidious Super PACS.

hmmmm .... let me get this straight ... I start a Super PAC, then I can do whatever I want with any leftover money. Sounds like an even better con then the bogus "charities" that have sprung up over the last 20 or so years. "America: What a country!"

Really, how can one be shocked that big donors are donating?
