Cherokee Nation Chief is obviously not of Native American ancestry, just look at him.

There is actually a National Geographic (I think) special, from 2 or 3 years ago, that discusses this. Aboriginal Australians seem to have a separate genetic identity from all other known trans African migrations. At least that's how I remember it being explained.

Genetically speaking they are like the human equivalent of the Galapagos studies. A very isolated and early genetic separation from most other humans.

I have alleged Choctaw-Chippewa and Abenaki blood but I say alleged because even I don't believe it.

I need more evidence.

I have a white complexion though but I don't get much sunburn.

No but I know people with NO native ancestry whatsoever that have formed "tribes" and have gained access to state government through commissions.

It's really quite pathetic what people will do for a buck nowadays.

The Cherokee Nation is racist!

If a Cherokee man married an outsider, their children were considered full blood Cherokee, but if a Cherokee woman married an outsider, their children were not Cherokee.

Black Cherokee are not regarded as Cherokee.

Therefore The Cherokee Nation are racists.

Ironic for a group trying to get sympathy fro their indigenous status.

Folks better check themselves before they start assuming BS and then opening their mouths and expressing their ignorance.

I think the poster is just surprised that the Cherokee Chief doesn't look like Wes Studi. It does look like sometimes that some non white groups want to present a kinder gentler and part white representation of themselves.

I know of one tribe in NY State that held a counsel because there were only about 200 true bloods left in the tribe. They were trying to promote that the youth of the tribe should not intermarry with whites or there wouldn't by any of full bloods left in a few years. So lets not act like the tribes themselves don't have some internal quandaries about these issues and political/public considerations when putting a face on the tribe.

We Had this as a government policy in Canada up until 1982.
They were trying to assimilate/eliminate First Nations people entirely.
The rationale was that Men could marry a First Nations woman and their children would be white.
They believed that no decent white woman would want to marry a First Nations man so their children were not affected.
There was also a policy that if a First Nations man were to get an education or serve in the Military, they would become white.

The US Army and Bankers back then financed a bunch of guys to sit around and shoot Buffalo all day, every day, for months.....years.

Took them awhile to shoot and kill millions of Buffalo in America's midwest....but their simple tactic STARVED the Indians into extinction as they couldn't get FOOD anymore.

Only "Indian" blooded people who survived were the Squaws who crawled in bed with the white man and had babies.

The Indians were pretty much exterminated. You can't find 1 in the world now that actually LOOKS like the old photograpths taken of them before they were all killed off.

Reminds me of the comment the LA mayor made a few years back about a white person not being able to represent Chicanos. He was running on his ethnicity and used the card big time.

Looking at his picture, I see the shape of the eyes, the high cheekbones and even the front teeth of a Native American. I would guess Cherokee (due to the eyes) because we share similar features and I know my background.

Far too many look at skin tone or at the wrong features to determine ethnicity.

LMAO .... my old lady is about 10 percent Cherokee ....... once while visiting Cherokee, NC we were given discounts on meals because of her looks. Sharon normally tans dark with black hair and brown eyes. The funniest part was that the couple we were with paid more for the same meal. I don't know if it was taxes or meal price but it saved us $5...... now the big attraction is the casino
