Pre-planned moles by Assad or change of ideals?

At least five former military officers who had joined the ranks of Syrian rebels admitted on Wednesday that they were wrong and refused to fight against the government, al-Quds al-Arabi online news portal reported.

The officers fought in the Free Syrian Army (FSA) - the main armed opposition group composed of defected Syrian Armed Forces personnel and volunteers.

The article is pretty clear about their choice..

en.rian.ru...

Could be that they were forced or blackmailed... We may never know.

ETA: I don't see anything indicating that they actually rejoined Assad.

I think Assad's administration/government is Baathist, like Saddam's. Which is, as far as mideast standards go, pretty secular. I bet they didn't like everything going on with muslim brotherhood once they had switched sides. That's a pretty radical jump.

...Or, just to entertain the thought, couldn't this be another sign of possible - bad - things to come? The civil war is one thing, but if they are aware of an imminent threat bigger than the regime, they could be gathering or something like that.

Again, just to entertain...

Thats how I felt too. Perhaps they're regrouping for possible things to come in the ME region. However I strongly feel that it was to infiltrate the FSA and spoil the party.
