Ae ra, tautoko, ka tika.

Ko toku nei reo tuatahi, ko te reo Maori.
Ehara ko te reo a te Kawanatanga, o Ingarangi ke.

I timata ai taku akona i te reo pakeha e rima oku tau.

True that, totally agree.
My first language is the Maori language.
Not the language of my coloniser, the English.

I started learning their language when I was 5 years old.

...that said...there are butchered sentences (like I tend to do) which might indicate English may not be their primary language...but when people completely butcher pretty much every single word...thats just laziness...

Why would anyone expect perfect spelling on a internet forum?

If a forum is open to all sections of society across the world then why would you expect every post to be perfect?
In reality if you live in it, lots of people do not get A grades in English, some have forgotten what they use to know due to lack of needing to know or it mattering in their life, a bricklayer is not going to put his spelling as priority for example.

Also why assume everybody has spell check or knows how to use it, if it is a feature on every computer then I have no idea where it is on mine. Spell check does not point out all errors and if your just looking at the red lines the errors that are not highlighted can be easily missed, for example:

I've got to

I've got two

both are correct but which did I mean?

I am also sick of spelling words wrong just to keep American spelling Nazi's happy, If i type colour it highlights it as wrong, if i type color it says it is correct. in my country the way i was taught to spell it is 'colour' because believe it or not we are not all American.

I like starting a sentence with and when writing. I use it to accentuate a point to get others attention, It isn't like you can accentuate your voice so I picked up a different technique to draw attention to what I want to accentuate.
If it bugs you I have succeeded

I guess you didn't see my post.
There is always at least one person who - when the spelling issue comes up on posts a load of gibberish. Sigh.... Yes we get you can make it out but frankly if someone wrote routinely like this I couldn't be *rsed to read beyond the first line.

"I couldn't be ASKED to read beyond the first line"!!!!

What a cheek!

Is English your first language?

There is a big difference between being arsed and being asked! Bummer!

Bad spelling gets to me too but I don't get all het up about it as I have friends who are dyslexic and live in a country which has many local languages and therefore the majority of the local population don't spell well when writing in English!

Bad spellers of the world untie!

I am not a spelling nazi, and agree that if the information is pertinent, valuable, I will overlook. However, I find mistakes somewhat offputting. Now, on to another point. I have noticed the same errors with certain posters; i.e., subject verb disagreement that is consistent, lack of plurals consistently, etc., homonym use with the wrong one.

but what I would also like to relate, is that in my own posts, I have made a concerted effort, for instance, with the use of their and there, and found the post later to be incorrect. I wrote a thread the other day, and responses on other occasions, tabulating correctly with paragraphs and indentations, but they did not appear correct when posted, nor as I typed them. Went back to edit, corrected, reposted, and still the same. So....my point? Maybe some of us are being "translated" incorrectly somehow.

I'd say most people here know how to spell. What you have to remember is that this is a forum that attracts people from all over the world and English is not the first language of quite a few people here. Those people are doing their best to spell properly and use proper grammar as well.

There will always be some who are not great spellers and besides, spell check does not catch everything. It does not catch grammatical errors.

The sentence below would slip right past any spell check.

" I is going down Town two sea there circus monkeys do the cool treks and rode on bikes"

If I may suggest, not to be rude...But there will always be people here who are poor spellers or who have poor grammar. Also, sometimes people make typos or speak little English. It's just going to happen. If something so mundane really bothers you so much, work on getting some thicker skin.

I dont know if you were aware, but this is the internet.

porn and talking about the type of stuff normally found on the internet, doesn't require good spelling.

Edit: I just went on facebook and the smartest people I know don't bother spelling right. And one was an editor for most of her life.
