the US cops really know how to handle protesters
everyone in the world thoughs the revolution would start in the US
maybe we were wrong and the US will be the last country to be really affected by protesters

Just look at how ATS reacted to OWS protests. On ATS where more people are informed about government corruption than the average person.. not even half of ATS supported OWS.

It's no wonder there will never be a successful protest against government corruption in this country. Too many people are complacent and in denial, even the ones who supposedly deny ignorance. They've been programmed for too long to believe the MSM's biased view.

Even when ATS members know the media is biased and corrupt they accept its view of OWS being violent and comprised of only criminals and crazies.

I think the major contributing factor is the political insanity in the US. People seem to generally bow down to their political affiliation and view anything that challenges it as a threat. There were plenty of issues both sides agreed on when it came to OWS, but they let their "party propaganda" dictate their beliefs and opinions.

Basically, too many Americans are party controlled, like little Kim Jong fanboys in North Korea. They'll ignore common sense if it's a challenge to their precious party doctrine. They don't see how they are being manipulated and controlled through party affiliation just as citizens are in more extreme nations like North Korea or China are.

You must obey your party and parrot everything they say!

It's always fun when someone (presumably American) starts talking about socialism - it's almost like they've completely forgotten that bailing out the banks is corporate socialism. And that it was started by Bush too.

Selective memory is a fantastic thing, isn't it?

Obedience:

www.abovetopsecret.com...

My husband is taking psych 101 in school and he askedme if I knew about the milgram experiment.....I did not, so.....he had me watch the actual footage, and it really brought me to tears.....

The worst part was when the one guy objected to the "torture" but only because he didn't want to accept personal responsibility for it.....once milgram said he himself would take the responsibility.....well the guy just continued with the "torture".

Some call it obedience others call it loyalty.....where do we draw the line? Scary stuff.......

Sorry, I'm not trying to go off topic, it just reminded me of that.....

Looks like the Spanish protesters are gathering for a second night. It was mentioned on another forum. I'll post more if I find out anything about this second night's events.

The point is, technically you don't live under the system you think you do. You can call it whatever you like, but we've seen acts more suited to Fascism, Socialism, Dictatorship, Democracy, Capitalism... the system you currently live under is a mess of "whatever suits us at the time".

It's pointless to start labeling nations as "Socialist" or anything else. And it's clear that it's nothing more than trolling 90% of the time by yet more American political fanatics cheering for their precious party leader of the moment.

I fully expect you to start blaming Obama for everything any second now.

That many people could have tipped the vans over and given the protestors an advantage.

That's exactly it!

We have a "magician" in the UK called Derren Brown, he actually uses the power of suggestion and a lot of psychology to "lead" people into doing things that they think are their choices, or random decisions. He's a genius.

He once had people come in to perform an experiment much like the one you mention.

He had someone in a white coat instructing people to administer electric shocks to someone they couldn't see in another room, instructing them to turn up the power beyond a fatal level.

They could hear the screaming, but they kept following orders, not challenging the person in authority even though they believed they were torturing someone.

The way I see it, these thug riot cops are both the authority and the one being instructed, this makes them extremely dangerous and makes them lose any control they had.

It's also considered the way the Nazi machine developed, with ultimate power and free reign given to people, all it takes is a little psychopathy in their mental state and all hell breaks loose.

It really is scary, and it's why I never trust anyone in a position of authority, like a cop. They have too much power, and little to no oversight.

It's all very peaceful I'm pleased to say. Little bit of singing, some quiet periods. At least, so far it is, I don't think it'll last when the plod come and try to make them go home.

Thank you Spain, for rising above the scum and showing the them that you are peaceful, and anything they do will be unwarrented. Viva la Espania!!

Just as i say that, it looks like an arrest has been made.

BUT...... The police used an undercover snatch squad, which is a perfectly acceptable way to deal with trouble at a protest. 100 times better than a batton charge.

Well....why don't they join them? I have never understood the mentality of people who are on the riot squad. They are humans too...and don't they realize who they are protecting? Thats right...the rich, the "elite", the very people who are the root cause for the protests to begin with. Why? Why would they protect them? Can anyone on ATS who is a member of law enforcement explain your logic as to why you don't take the people's side?

I'm not in law enforcement, but I think I know the answer to your question.

The police are people too, just as you say, with families, children, mortgages, car payments, etc. Their job is to protect Parliament from protesters. They are at this point doing their jobs, because they feel that they have no choice.

However, when the protesters become armed rioters in overwhelming numbers, and they start taking out a few cops, everything will change. Suddenly their paychecks will not be worth the risk of leaving their children fatherless, and their wives widows, and they will stay home.

Unfortunately, that's when the military will be called in, and the body count will start. As much as I want to see these people overpower their politicians, it will not be pretty. It never is.

The police in the countries that are controlled by the globalists all are screened by intelligence and by psychological profiling. If you don't have a very low IQ and test as a psychopath, you don't get hired.

The US will be the last to have massive protests like this. As bad as our economy is we are not experiencing the 25% unemployment like Spain and Greece are. Also, as long as we are still being fed and entertained at a cheap rate, Americans will not mass riot or protest like they are in Europe.

Spain and Greece have almost the same exact unemployment rates as the US does. It's just that they actually report the real figures in those countries, unlike the US. People ask why the riots like this don't happen in the US? One of the main reasons is because of all the people like you that take government and media lies like fake unemployment numbers as "facts".

Spain is a capitalist country. Greece is a capitalist country. Italy is a capitalist country. All the countries that are collapsing economically are capitalist ones, not socialist ones.

I think they have a deadline though, don't they? So if the protesters haven't dispersed by that time I guess that's the "kick off" moment

(In my husbands class it was in reference to the Abu Gahraib Incident.....btw: my husband is a soldier as most of the people in that psych class are as well......so you can imagine how interesting that conversation was! )

I just hope that the people of spain are allowed to speak out without being shut down.....the true test of a democracy is being put to the test right now in Spain, I for one am astounded that it has gotten to this level, and I wonder how much further it will go before it does get shut down....and if it doesn't get shut down.....what will that mean for the future of Spain?

yes, freedom of speach is only a daytime thing

When the police decide it's bed time, it will turn ugly.

and to the poster who said it's the job of the police to protect goverment. No. No it isn't. It is the job of the police to protect citizens and keep the peace. If people want to protest, then let them. O.K, stop them from breaking stuff and getting violent, fine. But the police are supposed to be politically impartial, there to keep everyone safe from harm. NOT go around battering people, shooting them with in this case rubber bullets and quelling what was a peaceful demo. But, they are doing what you said, protecting the status quo, but that is not what they should be doing. And if any single one of them had an ounce of common sense, they'd be able to see it. If any single one of them had an ounce of decency, they would refuse to attack demonstrations against the goverment for no good cause other than it gives the papers all the propaganda it needs to make protesting look bad. They wouldn't have undercover cops in the crowd trying to start trouble so it all kicks off, they would act honerably and within the laws of common decency. but they do not, because they are not decent people. Decent people wouldn't do this to their fellow human. They couldn't.

IMO they have less than a month before all the unemployed and frustrated start heading to Madrid to join the fight.

They need to clear the city of all protest or this WILL turn into a civil war like the republican flag symbolizes now days here. A new civil war.

I see people looking at the news of cops getting beaten and people alike and I see know how they will react. They will rally in Europe's only capital with mass violent protests that call for a clean house process to government. TPTB won't allow it, and they will not go home. Stale mate until some one ups the ante. Day 2 and it is only getting worse.

Getting worse? This is a peaceful protest in action, last night was pretty savage from the police, but this is a completly different vibe.

elpais.com...

It even looks like the crowd is thinning out and people are going home of their own accord.

edit, but wait for the shift change, when the riot cops come on duty.
see who starts the trouble.

Anyone who ISN'T making provisions in: A food supply

...is borderline retarded.

These austerity measures will come to us very very soon. NO ONE is guaranteed pension, or government benefits; they are made available when funds are available. If theres no funds - you get no benefits.

Please be sensible, buy some rice, quinoa (an excellent source of protein), lentils, dried fruits and vegetables. Even water..

You never know what will be needed.

Simply understand this: Israel attacks Iran, Iran blocks the strait of hormuz; 35 percent of the worlds daily oil doesn't pass through, or at least interrupted in its passage, and BAM, the price of oil and natural gas SKYROCKETS, causing the markets to collapse, eventually ending up in hyper inflation.

Gas goes up, transportation costs goes up, food prices go up. Money depreciates in value.

Not good. We have a very serious storm ahead of us, not var away, no more then 3-4 months. TAKE PRECAUTION.
