There have been reports of earthquake clusters in California for the past two weeks. I admit 6.2 is the highest I have seen it so far. Wow, I hope this isn't a precursor to the big one!

Beat me to it by seconds ! just saw it breaking news on CNN
hope no one got hurt .. 6.2 can make minor damages to buildings
sign of a big one to come in California ?
Obama would have told Californians if such earthquake were to come in a near futur
would he ?

Thanks for posting Jude. I think it was a couple of weeks ago, someone on ATS posted a prediction for a 9+ EQ for off the coast of Ca for today, the 25th. I deleted that thread from my bookmarks, wish I had kept it now.

Very interesting given that there's been a steady increase in activity (lesser quakes) over the last couple of months, especially around SO Cal. I predicted several weeks back that I had a bad vivid dream about a large earthquake near the Utah area (and I live in New Zealand), so I hope this isn't a prelude to bigger things about to take place in the area.

Look forward to hearing reports from people in the region as the 6.2 was very shallow, and no doubt was strongly felt.

Maybe a precursor for a bigger one to come? I'll be keeping an eye on this situation thanks for posting.

Just came back to comment on that too...looks like it might have just been a 'ghost' reading, related to the 6.3 a few minutes before it.

Those quakes in the Gulf of California, which is Mexico, are pretty far away from southern california where I am, so nope, didn't feel anything.

Looks pretty active along the North American pacific coast though, guess we will see if it gets worse or is just par for the course.

9+ EQ in California is not geologically possible, because of the type of fault it is. The highest EQ that CA can have is an 8. Unlike Japan, in CA faults just slide back and forth so you get a lot of small EQ, in Japan the faults crash into each other so you can get a very damaging EQ. You will probably more likely see a 9+ EQ in Japan than a 8 EQ in CA.

I randomly check the Earthquakes throughout the day, everyday!
When I saw all of these quakes, it made me say "whoa" and of course I have to look on ATS to see all of the talk...these look pretty shallow, some tiny ones have no depth in kilometers at all...strange!

I have been checking out this activity all day.
I can't believe it took so long to gain attention but i guess all the israel/iran stuff buried the reality of te huge quake that looms over the California future.
I can see many warnings that are being ignored by many west coast inhabitants.
Buckle up folks!

They seem to be increasing in magnitude the 4.8 secondary doesn't look out of the ordinary but 5.9?
Anything running on WAS about this?

5.9 is the CSEM-EMSC
6.2 is what USGS has.

I'm probably going to get made fun of for this, but yesterday evening my husband was asking me to check the earthquakes online because he was feeling a very high frequency vibration coming from the ground which was driving him crazy. I can never feel it when he says such things. But every time he does, there's usually a quake somewhere relatively close by, 12 to 24 hours later. He sits at his desk on a cushioned chair, on a throw rug on top of a thick carpet.

We live on the border of Texas and New Mexico (southern NM). I had been looking for an earthquake thread since last night, just out of curiosity.

Thanks for posting, Jude. Now I get to hear a lot of "I told you so".
