Scientists Have Successfully Hacked the Human Brain to Retrieve Data

www.unexplainable.net

It sounds like something out of the movie “Johnny Mnemonic,” but scientists have successfully been able to “hack” a brain with a device that’s easily available on the open market.

Researchers from the University of California and University of Oxford in Geneva figured out a way to pluck sensitive information from a person’s head, such as PIN numbers and bank information.

I wonder if the powers that be will even think about the constitutional ban on self incrimination when they start using this. And just think what spies and crooks could do with this technology.

Of course all they would get from my brain is pics of nekid ladies. LOL

And just how fast do you think the Obamaniacs will jump on this one???

Thats awesome, aren't humans great.

Always rushing head long into technology before we are morally mature enough to use it properly, think thats pretty much the whole of human history.

1984 here we come.

This is a bit scary, to say the least. I'm afraid the direction which technology is leading us towards is a very dystopian one.

When have we ever been morally mature when it comes to technology? Or anything for that matter? Man discovered how to build fires thousands of years ago and we still have arsonists.

The brain is basically a computer, everything going on in there is basically binary code.

Actually... the title of the article seems to be extremely misleading. After actually reading the article they aren't doing anything special. They simply took some off-the-shelf brainwave reading head cap thing and they showed the subject certain pictures. A certain type of brain signal is emitted when they see something familiar. So what they have basically developed is a method of interrogation, a way to discover if the subject is withholding relevant information. Just show them an image and if they emit the "P300" signal you can be fairly certain that image means something to them. But if you want to read about real technology capable of extracting images from thoughts then check out this thread:

Brain imaging reveals the movies in our mind

This is infant technology; at least in the way it is being used. But the article goes on to say that a lot of improvement can be expected as the equipment and methods of using it, including software, is improved. Technology always grows if there is a use for it. The first electronic computers took up whole rooms and could barely do more than the basic math functions. Now you can buy a pocket calculator that has more capability than the computers used in the first space capsules. The future of any technology is not always apparent from the capabilities of the first level of the equipment. And don't think for one second that the government spooks won't be watching this one and working to improve it themselves.

So they have finally figured out that the brain is an organic computer? I figured this would happen once they created organic chips. I guess it won't be too long before the scifi depictions of a brain, in a glass jar, living for eternity, is not too far off.
May I offer to be the first volunteer?

What a waste of time...

Like the stick as a first tool was an extension of the hand

The Internet is an extension of our mind

So you can already see what your going to get if you start randomly hitting peoples thoughts

40% Porn, 25% Funny Images, 20% "what should I buy"

Why when these things are discovered (that have no good useful purpose for the betterment of mankind) do they post articles about them for everyone to read? Criminals could have a field day with this. I think the doofuses that posted the article should post their addresses and phone numbers as well, so that we can "reach" them when this tech one day is used by the wrong people and someone out there gets robbed blind.

Wonder if we will get the 'lie detector' phenom all over again.

These devices have always been great at false positives and being manipulated themselves. I would have to assume that at very least a handful of governments have already investigated and used this type of technology. Would be crazy if they've never thought of it.

Makes me think maybe it's not that effective since we've yet to have an influx of stories about it yet?

I don't think it will be long before they begin to use this in court, especially in murder cases. Of course its actual application would be in the interview process to establish guilt by the LEO/Detectives prior to entering court in the "Evidence collection" process. Would this speed up or change trials? I can see the changes to the "Miranda rights" now, after all they are only 66 years old.

"You have the right to remain silent, anything you say or think can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney in order to get you the best deal possible. If you can not afford an attorney a biased state paid negotiator will be assigned to your case. Your brain scan signifies your understanding of these rights and therefore it will be assumed you accept and agree to these terms of service."

This technology must be destroyed, Its already being used on people who hear voices. This technology is only useful for an evil world, its indicitive of who runs things..losers. Yes i called them that because the future holds only one thing for them. Mass public rebellion, unless, maybe thats what they want? Either way I know how to disable the technology with my mind, it takes time to learn how, but it's possible. It's basicly activating a psycho-kinetic part of your brain and focussing on the beam or field, and exciting heat particles or breaking parts with your mind, i use images in my mind to represent the action i desire. This makes them mad and they will start talking to you. They wont reveal who they are, they use lies to trick you. I really dont care who they are, i will destroy them using psionics, psychic and kinetic abilities they have given me through this technology they use on me.

The tech will improve, but we're probably a couple of decades or so away from really being able to hack detailed information to and from the brain directly.

Right now the sensors don't go to depth, or show more than a general activity for a brain area. It's not precise enough to tell us much besides if a neural network is established. Eventually these limitations will be overcome.

By the time they get this figured out, tech in every other way will be so advanced we'll be living in a world of a hive mind...as long as civilization doesn't collapse first, we're fast moving into "transhuman" territory.

Going to get even nuttier!!

I'm not sure I can believe that so much. And yet, the military is said (or rather known) to be several miles ahead of technology available to the general public.
