Continued:

27. Servers that just don't know how to take an order such as you say you only want cheddar cheese, lettuce, and onions only on a chicken sandwich that comes with on the menu lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and mixed cheese, but they actually ring it in as extra cheese(adding cheese) when you were just substituting cheese, not saying you wanted extra cheese, which means they put in the order wrong as well as overcharged you. Some servers are too stupid to know how to take an order. A person doesn't have to say "substitute" if they are already stating they only want one type of cheese. Some servers just don't have common sense, it's true. They aren't listening or reading the menu to know what they are serving you all because they are too lazy to do so and they just don't care, but yet, they want that money at the end.

28. Servers that don't write down requests such as a box, a bag, the check, a refill, etc. They are just too lazy and don't care if they remember what you said.

29. Auctioning off food if you aren't the server that took the orders as far as what table you are going to. There should be a table number on the ticket and some diagram of the restaurant. Don't be so lazy as to not make sure you are taking the food to the correct table to not interrupt other tables as well as you may end up giving the wrong table food first that was not first and/or made the wrong way, which it's very possible a person that has a food related allergy is served the wrong one, that can mean something serious for that customer, so think if that were you.

30. Servers that don't give you the amount of condiments you asked for.

31. Servers that don't notice you don't have any utensils or even napkins even.

32. Servers that order for you without your consent or permission to such as bringing you a refill without you ordering it or being asked for it or even getting you a glass of water you didn't order without asking first.

33. Servers that when you ask for your check and a dessert, they wait until the dessert arrives or even after to give you your check when they were fully in control of giving you your check that you did ask for when you ordered your dessert which is well before the dessert arrived.

34. Servers that don't ask you if you want your side salad before the appetizer arrives when side salads do take much less time to prepare than appetizers do.

35. Servers that serve you food that don't try their best to make sure an obvious errors aren't on the plate or even servers that don't even know what table they are giving food to, especially when it's the server that took the order. Some servers are too lazy to verify anything.

36. Servers that just don't have common sense such as you have an empty glass and don't even bother to ask if you need anything to even offer even.

37. Servers that don't give you a straw or extra napkins.

38. Servers that ask one person that is a fast eater if they want dessert that is finished their entrée when you are still eating your entrée. The server should just ask if they want anything else, NOT a dessert, because that makes the other person feel like a slow eater and they would have to rush to finish.

39. Servers that don't bring out appetizer plates out BEFORE the appetizer comes out so then you have to wait to get them, sometimes several minutes. You don't realize how many STUPID, DINGY servers out there actually have done this to us. Seriously, I have never been a server, but I have COMMON SENSE to know DUHHH PREPARE BEFORE BRINGING the next course, DUHH!!

40. Servers that don't know the soup of the day or don't know things about the food they serve when you ask. I mean YOU WORK THERE, NOT ME!!

I bet you could have made MUCH MORE MONEY if you cared about *ALL* your customers and worked harder.

If you worked your butt off, then you wouldn't be saying you didn't check plates for obvious errors.

Oh..but I have caught many errors before they hit the table, but at times..because of being severely under pressure and rushed to get the food out, and off the line (guess what.. many places don't have the room to take your plates off the line, and put them somewhere else.)..I have brought mistakes out to tables.

I didn't sacrifice the tip from other customers just to appease the demanding ones, though lord knows I tried my hardest to serve the picky ones as well.

I hope one of your children gets a job serving at one of the restaurants you frequent, and when they come home tired , and totally worn out, and complain to you about demanding customers, that you call them lazy and selfish.

It's called a tray set it on top of a tray jack BEFORE handing it over to the customer, USE IT!! Quit making excuses to be lazy and uncaring!!

Let me ask you, what do you mean by "DEMANDING?" If they are mean about it, I can see you meaning that word, but if all they did was ask for a lot, that's not demanding, that's YOUR JOB! YOU ARE LAZY! QUIT SAYING "DEMANDING."

First off, I don't have kids. Secondly, even if I did, I wouldn't teach them to be lazy like you acting like customers are demanding people, because they would learn from me to BUST THEIR BUTT for EVERY CUSTOMER!

They wouldn't be complaining, because I would teach my child(If I had one) to work HARD.

There are no demanding customers unless they tell you in a mean way. If all they are doing is asking for a lot of things, that's not demands. You are wrong when it comes to saying demands. I really want to know your definition of demands?

It is bed time essentially, at least where I live it's after 11p.m. I am not inconsiderate like you are. You didn't respond to my response to you, because you know I am right that if you can write down my food orders, you can write down ANYTHING if you want to. Also, MANY of times servers don't have dirty dishes in their hands when they come by. They still work there. Some aren't going to the kitchen. Some are going to the computer which doesn't require hands full in, hands full out since it's not in the kitchen at most chains.

Honestly, if I was a customer in a restaurant, and I saw a table that came in after me, get their salad first, because they were hungry NOW, and get their second drink, before I got mine, all because they were a picky diner, who wouldn't tip, unless every little demand was met, I would most likely tell our mutual server, that playing favorites , when time is pressed might get you the tip from them, but they just blew their tip from me.

I didn't respond to you because I don't have the patience, nor, do I feel like recounting all the reasons you are full of it. You have no idea what goes on behind those kitchen doors, in the back of the house of a restaurant on a busy Friday night.

But, I've met you, I know you, I've waited on you. Your not worth the time in explaining what it means to have manners, and allow yourself to be served, without ordering some perceived idiot around.

I don't understand? You are talking going out of order of request. I am not, understand? Who said I didn't tip? I just LOWER the tip some, which I start at 20%, it can become higher or lower depending on the service.

I don't know WHERE you get I don't tip when I have told you how high we have tipped before?

If you asked for your drink first before another table as far as what you could control of course like soft drinks, water, or iced tea, then why should the server go out of order? That makes no sense to go out of order.

I NEVER WOULD CONDONE THAT!

You haven't done the job yet..like I said..go work at one for one week, and come back and tell us how perfectly you satisfied every customers demand in the timing they required.

By the way you call us stupid and lazy, without ever seeing how we have done that job, is pretty much telling of your character....and I think it would be great fun to see you try and do this job.

You get tipped for doing what?

Do you understand that servers work for the restaurant and many times the restaurant has rules for the servers to hold off on offering things that are free, like more bread, or another soda? Restaurants want the customers to ask for their free refills, and servers to sell menu items, not waste their time getting you free stuff.

It's really considered poor service for the server to bring a partial drink order. If some one has ordered a beer from the bar and someone else has ordered a glass of wine, and there are 2 sodas, the server must wait for the bar drinks, and the wine may come another station altogether. The server may bring another table, who ordered later, Ice Teas, while waiting for the bar. You have no idea how things are organized.

Many restaurants employ food runners, or encourage other servers to run another's food out. That's when you get auctioning off of food, because the person serving the table isn't the one who took the order. A lot of restaurants aren't organised enough to relay seating and what seat ordered what, to the food runner.

Okay Springs sorry had to have myself what we in the business like to refer to as a “safety meeting” before addressing your post. Im reading and replying as I go along and haven’t read much of anything after your first post, but I can see people are giving you a hard time, and to be honest, I’m not surprised. I’m not going to respond to everything because I’m anxious to read the rest of the thread, but here goes.
2. I like that one. I do sometimes say things like “oh that’s my favorite” maybe I should keep those comments to myself??…

3. YES My boss tells us not to get new glasses, but I don’t listen to her.

6. Sorry all of my customers get a check whether they want it or not LOL

7. I don’t do that, but it seems odd to me that it bothers you, but ==eh that’s you I guess.

9. What if the lemon has a slit cut in it and is hanging on the rim….??

11. I’ve never done that BUT if they order a take out at the same time they are ordering for the table… I do say “Hey if you think of it when I deliver dinner, maybe slip me a reminder so I don’t forget to put it in for you” Probably not a great Idea, but I think I’d rather have you irritated that I asked for the reminder than pissed that I forgot….Which I usually DON’T forget, but I’m human.

12. Assuming the app will be shared. That’s a tricky one… What do you suggest? Should I ask ….”You gonna share that, or hog it all to yourself?” or should I set down a stack of plates so the others at the table can be even further taunted w/o a delicious bite of your yum yums??

21. Ketchup is already on the table where I work, would you be immediately offended by that…??

28. That’s the most ridiculous thing on this list…Looks great on paper but it’s execution would be a sight to see LOL LOL LOL

32. I do bring water to people w/o them asking and 9 times out of 10 they drink it. How does a glass of water bother you, please explain.

34. Sorry it’s app, salad, entrée. If you like your salads first just ask!! It screws the chef up, he starts the dinner when the salad walks.

36. Jibberish..no comprendo essay

37. Should I ask if you use a straw and napkins or just “assume” and bring them w/o your permission? LMAO

Well That’s all. Thanks for that. One at a time your 40 pet peeves are understandable, but put together they seem a little crazy. I almost feel bad for you, it must be a pretty traumatic experience for you to eat out, and if you vocalize all of this at the table I feel really bad for your fellow diners. But seriously, I do appreciate your input.

18 www.abovetopsecret.com... I'm sure you'll have a lot to say about this.

My apologies.

I like number 5. On friday night's we sell fish like crazy, so it's SUPER fast pased. I have printed out checks for people still eating, but i say things like...Hey I don't want you to go, but it's here for you if you need to, I'll print another one if you get anything else" probably not the best idea, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do... Friday fish people are a special breed, they're in and out...

In 20 years of serving I have seen foul play one time, and the other server was like 19. She was serving it to her old boyfriends new girlfriend.

What makes me the happiest?

Having a server that caters to *ME* PERSONALLY, NOT ASSUMING.

Having a server that tries their VERY BEST to get my order obviously correctly as much as possible.

Having a server that tries their best in general.

Offering to do more work. For example, noticing my mixed drink on the rocks the ice has melted, a waitress once offered more ice for it. That was nice and it showed she WANTED MORE MONEY to offer to do more work.

Saying you are sorry when you mess up that I give bigger tips than if you show you care less. Be nice about a mistake and I won't be as mad about it. It also shows you are a kind-hearted person if you say you are sorry.

Originally posted by MidnightSunshine I figure every little bit helps, and maybe you guys can help me out.

What I feel a server should need help in improving the most I see is that most servers don't *LOOK* at your food or BAR DRINKS *BEFORE* LEAVING THE KITCHEN or BAR and comparing it to the written order or if it's another server, the ticket or computer screen that has the order on it for any obvious errors such as missing condiments, wrong side dishes, etc.

I am SICK of the ASSUMPTIONS! My husband and I have had serveral servers assume because we asked for a box, that meant we wanted the check. NO, it didn't. We ordered a dessert and/or a bar drink or two even. Another assumption, that you get to keep my change. I don't pay with cash often, but once I did and the waiter kept my coins, so he got stiffed, got back my coins, and got a complaint from the manager. You can't steal and expect money from the customer, you just can't.

Don't ask if we want change. Quit with the laziness. Just get the change. SO WHAT if they leave it all, you have *EARNED* YOUR TIP FROM DOING THE FULL JOB YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO DO!!

Stop giving me refills without asking first. The only way you know is to ask at the greeting if the customers want that type of service. STOP controlling my service!

DO NOT TAKE MY GLASS WHEN YOU GET MY REFILLS! I am SICK of this that the servers hands me food and takes my glass. Do you want me to choke?

A lot of times servers aren't OBSERVANT to notice if the syrup is low and I end up noticing it the first few seconds they bring me the drink(dark drink, not sprite of course).

STOP PUTTING LEMON *IN* my tea or water. It puts SEEDS in the glass.

WRITE *ALL* REQUEST DOWN. I am so sick of servers when they don't write things down, then forget. These are examples:

Once, my husband and I ordered our entrées and this waiter at Chili's didn't write ANY of it down. My husband ordered his for the most part as it came just about and mine I ordered as I usually do with a lot of modifications. I ordered a burger with lettuce and onions only with 2 sides of mayo, 1 side of mustard, and 1 side of ranch. Our waiter comes back AFTER he left to ask AGAIN "Did you say lettuce and tomatoes", I said "No, lettuce and ONIONS only." You shouldn't be coming back to ask what I ordered. GET IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME. Unless they can't make the item the way I want it for some reason(they are out of it or just can't), you have no real reason to come back to my table to ask again. You should get it down correctly the FIRST time around.

I have a lot of times servers forget refills and they just NEVER WRITE THEM DOWN. You should be writing down refill request, YOU SHOULD!!

I have asked for a 1. dessert, 2. a box, 3. some tops for the condiment containers, 4. 2 containers for the condiments, 5. a bag, 6. the check, 7. to-go coke. She forgot the check due that I even WARNED HER saying "I have a bunch of stuff to ask for" and that should have been her CUE to take her pad and pen out, but it wasn't. She didn't write ANY of that down. She could have done everything except for the dessert in one trip even with the containers inside the box which would have been put inside the bag, the check in her apron pocket, one hand would have had the to-go coke, the other the bag that had the box and containers inside it.

Another time I asked for 1. a box, 2. a bag, 3. the check, 4. a to-go coke, our waitress forgets the bag.

Another time I asked for 1. extra napkins, 2. more bread, and 3. a refill on my soft drink, he forgets the extra napkins.

Another time, I asked for 1. a box, 2. the check, 3. a bag, 4. tops for the containers for the condiments, she forgets the bag.

Another time, I asked for 1. a box, 2. the check, 3. a bag, 4. containers for condiments, she forgets everything except for the containers.

Out of all of these times with different servers, NONE of these servers wrote down ANY of these.

You again? Lol

What do you mean by *Me* personally? Can you expand on that?

I offer always offer to box food and bag it, and plate the first slice of pizza. What do you think about those things?

About looking at the food/drink UGH!!! I HATE when they do that too, for the reasons you mentioned, and things like dirty dishes, lip stick, or hair!!!

OKAY I get it… where you come from there are no free refills right?? Or are you saying they are charging you for refills you didn’t order?

Sometimes the pop looks exactly the same when the syurp runs out, colored glass is also tricky here…

Ugh lol back to refills…So when you say “refill” you MUST mean an alcoholic beverage or “another drink” right? I DO write down those down when im busy, but im sorry you would have to be “extra special” if you have to write done every soft drink refill not to mention WAY in the weeds…Do you have any idea how many drinks I give out on a busy night???

“I have asked for a 1. dessert, 2. a box, 3. some tops for the condiment containers, 4. 2 containers for the condiments, 5. a bag, 6. the check, 7. to-go coke. She forgot the check due that I even WARNED HER saying "I have a bunch of stuff to ask for" and that should have been her CUE to take her pad and pen out, but it wasn't.”

I like this. When I got the 3, I thought “ gonna need my pen!” Agreed!
AND Finally, you have one hell of a memory!

HEY reading further, I see you've already clarified some of my questions.
OMG NOOOO Pickles!!!! LOL YOU have nooo idea how many people do not want that freaken pickle on their plate!! I'm sooo glad we stopped putting them on there all together! Yes, you have to ask for one!!
