So you're saying there is a sub-conscious that remains active even when one is distracted by sleep? That's understandable.

I guess I didn't know what the questions in the OP had to do with it?

If one's mind is stopped by a question, I would have to ask what wall was so suddenly hit to have caused the stoppage. One hundred times out of one hundred, that wall would be blind faith.

It may be worth considering that this isn't the site for you. A lot of us here have college degrees and don't spend time ruining others' threads by bragging about them.

Maybe you should go to a site where having a degree is more likely to impress the members there. ATS certainly isn't the place to do it.

ETA: Here's a forum where your "university education" will probably be much more appreciated.

www.studentsoftheworld.info...

There's even a philosophy section where you can talk down to other members and embarrass yourself further

I noticed Druscilla has answered and argued with everyone except me. Go and stand in nature and close your eyes and open your mind. You will get a far better education, and become a far better person then you have managed so far. Let life teach you how to think, ignore professors who tell you what to think.

I hope the following will help you all, and raise a smile:

That's probably because I've had University level Philosophy,

OK, we get it, you are trying to inject your college "smartness" to make yourself look bright and all, but this thread is being dragged in the wrong path due to this college bragging!!

Other than trying to show everyone your college "skills" how does it really answer what the OP is pondering here? This thread is NOT seeking someones "educated" text-book college answers. [color=gold]This thread is seeking answers WAY BEYOND THAT at a much HIGHER level!!!

You are messing up the thread with your need to brag about your "education" here. That is NOT what the OP is asking about nor anyone else.

Maybe if you transcendent masters would stop being overwhelmed by the audacity of this annoyingly educated individual dismissing your clear mastery of corporeal human existence as self-indulgent ignorance, then this precious little debacle might be allowed to die its own natural death. The OP notwithstanding, the only questions being asked are nearly every conceivable rendition of "how dare you not be impressed with me?". And frankly, I was expecting a lot more from this thread.

If you just run their bullsh*t right back up their *sses for the next two years, they'll eventually feel it best to leave you alone.

At least, that's how I chose to handle their disdain. This forum has a gang-tackle club of Namaste hit men, and they really are a raw nerve bunch of kids when they feel threatened. Just bury them in novelty and stuff that they can't lash back at without looking like kindergarten trollies.

In other words - show 'em, don't tell 'em.

They don't teach Greek Chorus decimation in college, but in this Internet age, it's the most useful skill to master once you've learned enough to not be glazed over by the kind of adolescent pseudo-intellectual splooge that passes for enlightenment in New Age pornholes like this one.

Good luck with these little monsters, though.

Some very thought provoking questions.

I like these threads, even if there is a buzz kill...

The dude/chick poster knows that he/she's being a dandy Dick. I guess they teach annoyism in university.
You ain't helping nobody so quit it.

Way to stoop to the same level. I guess they teach pretense and hypocrisy here on ATS.

You can follow most of freshman year University level Philosophy 101 in the link, as well as some other sites by searching "Philosophy 101", or 102 for sophomore level, etc.

You can, as well, register at your local Junior college for introductory Philosophy, or even a full course University.
If that's too big for your plate, you can do some reading. The first link I gave provides lectures, reading material, and a host of resources all linked and clickable.

I think you'll find a majority of your questions answered in a first-year freshman level Philosophy course.

Here are some more links:
Introduction to Philosophy: Dr. Brown's online courses

530 Free online courses from top Universities

60+ Free Philosophy courses online (same as above link but just Philosophy)

You should probably be able to figure it out from there if you're self sufficient and capable of doing things on your own.

Call it whatever you want. If you don't want to learn, then, that's your fault.
If other 'alternative philosophies are beyond traditional philosophy, then shouldn't you know a thing or two about traditional philosophy as a foundation?
Further, how would anyone actually KNOW what traditional Philosophy has on offer if they have no education regarding the subject?

This is my last post in this thread, regardless of how many more insults people intend on heaping upon me.

Why is it that negative comments get a lot more attention than positive ones? Specially in this section of the forums, it seems that the most judgemental people reside in the spiriuality section. Am I the only one that finds this utterly ironic?

What does this moment lack?

Nothing.

Look out your window at the whole scene, the sky, the sun, clouds, ground, buildings, seas. How significant are you in relation to everything you see?

As significant as I see can see myself being in relation to them. And as insignificant as I can not see myself being in relation to them.

In comparison to everything that exists, the Universe, how important are your thoughts and your judgements?

We are all the center of our own universe. But sometimes, and for a limited time, and once in a great while, I also like to think that I am the center of this universe. But all of it is transitory, and as such it only matters from moment to moment.

Look at any person. Can you physically see their thoughts?

If a man farts in an inclosed room you can physically see the thoughts of the people next to him.

Put yourself in an imaginary person's shoes. Can another person see your thoughts?

I imagine not. But I can also imagine yes.

If you did not exist anymore, what would happen to all that exists? Would the Universe stop existing?

Yes and No.

What will be your next thought?

What is the meaning of cheese?

Now this is a good question, and one that stops the mind.

I'm going to suggest that it may have to do with the possibility that this is a manifestation of the fact that competition is the water that the human being swims through - the gestational soup that it feeds on and grows within - as it passes through this corporeal phase of overall development. And that dominance psychology is the theater of mortal combat that, regardless of how physically violent such struggle may eventually express itself, viscerally matters most to the hyper-competitive human being.

Within the non-sentient community of intelligent material existence, the battle is much less complicated, with fight, kill, eat as the win-loss determinant between competing wholes. But, for this planet's human being, this has changed, because its corporeal placenta (the Homo Sapiens hominid brain) has long ago realized its true position as a transitional stage within the larger development process, and that ultimate success involves a dominant identity presence, and not merely material survival, relative to competing human beings.

In this modern Western world, even the strident refusal to consciously accept the supporting, intermediate nature of its material existence is a means - for some Homo Sapiens brains - to leverage psychological dominance over other competing brains (and ultimately the human beings that are being produced by those brains) by way of playing off the advantage of leveraging a more universal cultural alignment, with the obvious esteem benefits that exist when one has achieved such alignment. Hell, the truth is that all Homo Sapiens brains know that the human being is not a corporeal/material manifestation. What each brain does with this knowledge is ultimately dictated by its devotion to the human being that it is tasked with crafting, and the best competitive strategy that it sees as available to it.

And for some, that strategy is to be as big and pompous an *sshole as possible. At least, this is how my brain has chosen to deal with things.

Yuk! Calling the philosophy section the "spirituality section" made me want to throw up a little. lol. Critical thinking and judgments are some of the main features in philosophy

Questions that stop the mind has become a question, " why am I back in this thread"?

Negativity stops my mind and tells my body to run away.

Seriously though, this could have been a really good thread where one does not have to set himself up on an ego pedestal only to fall to his own ignorance.

It takes many perceptions of truth to come close to it... so be it.

I don't see why a thread is "ruined" just because a few people got in a fight? I inquired about what the OP meant, but didn't get a reply to my last question. So I'm definitely confused about how "good" this thread could have been when the OP doesn't respond to questions?

What I find most interesting about this thread is how it prompts us to stop and NOT think!

Here is a similarity to consider: In hypnotism there are many induction technique. These are methods by which the hypnotist induces the hypnotic trance in his client. There are many, some fast, some slow. They are grouped into different types which work well for different types of people. So you have Authoritative techniques, Or non-authoritative. They can be Visual, Auditory or Kinesthetic based, depending on the needs of the client. There are some rapid induction techniques, like the eye Transfixion or the Pattern Interruption method.

So what is the point of all this? Well this "questions that stop the mid" issue reminds me of the pattern interruption method of hypnotic induction. It works by taking your consciousness by surprise. By interrupting a well known and well practiced pattern, (for example a handshake) the brain doesn't know what to do about it - for a moment there is a blankness, a sudden Uh?! a momentary pause - and at that moment it is possible for the hypnotist to bypass your critical faculty, bypass the conscious part of your brain and talk directly to your subconscious. In this way a trance can be induced almost immediately.

The questions posed in the OP are not there begging for answers. They are there to do that same thing. To cause a sudden Uh?! - What happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object? Oh... Ummm, Uh!? And by taking advantage of that moment - that pause, that momentarily stopped mind - that is when meditation, self hypnosis, introspection becomes possible.

Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is to not think.
