This is just insane!!!!

HOUSTON (AP) — A Houston police officer shot and killed a one-armed, one-legged man in a wheelchair Saturday inside a group home after police say the double amputee threatened the officer and aggressively waved a metal object that turned out to be a pen.
God what is going on in this country!

Sad when TWO cops can't handle a man in a wheelchair.

The article said "he feared for his safety"

That is pretty much a police officer's "I can get away with anything" card it seems

Even if he had a broadsword what the hell damage can you do from a wheelchair?...with one arm no less. I mean all the cop had to do knock him over. Maybe at most whack him with the club.

Yep! just like the cop that heavily peppered sprayed those kids that were just sitting there doing nothing at a protest.
NO CHARGES! Some of these kids were in a hospital for days!

What happened to police departments staffed with men...not wimps...who could physically handle big bar brawlers, let alone wheelchair bound people. now it's stand off and shoot if someone doesn't comply because half the prissy little college kids getting badges these days know even someone in a wheelchair might do THEM some damage. I think cops need quiet and well founded confidence.......not bravado covering a total lack of ability to deal with bad situations. I saw enough of the fear covered by over-reaction in the peak of Occupy around the nation. It's a bad bad state of affairs with our cops.

I try to stay away from LEO threads most of the time but I cannot resist posting this.

"It was close quarters in the area of the house," Silva said. "The officer was forced into an area where he had no way to get out."

By a one armed one legged man?
I can imagine scenarios that would warrant shooting him but the article does little to provoke my imagination.
Makes me wonder what led to the officer being in such a dangerous "area" in the first place.
I guess police really are trained to shoot first ask questions later.

Well next time you are confronted by the police you will know not to go for that pen in your pocket to write the officers badge number down

How apathetic are we as a country?

I just got done watching a CNN story where the police handcuffed and searched every person and car at an intersection...

And than pop on here to see this.

How many "shot heard round the world" Type situations are we going to allow before we take a stand against police violence?

Shot dogs, nothing, Shot grandmas, nothing, Shot disabled people, and nothing.

If i didn't know better Id say they are drugging the population.

Oh wait...

Who knows that pen could have been a detonater of some sorts.

The one arm, one legged guy could have been working for Al Queda....Police must be ready for anything.

I feel safe knowing he's never going to wave a pen around...again!!

All joking aside a handicapped citizens life was cut short by a stupid...stupid...decision....very sad, they are supposed to be protecting our most vulnerable....

More to the point, to become cops they must accept that they are putting their lives on the line - not YOUR life!

Why didn't the cop just push the guy back with his foot?

seems like a wheelchair will roll fairly easily...

I guess it is easier to just shoot someone..eh?
