The rest of the post is valid, the amount being released in the Arctic is several times higher than the rest of the world.

It's been done....in reverse...sorta.

I think we will find the ice zone will have just shifted and that it never really disappears.

Millions of years ago, when the planet was last this warm, forests grew in the Arctic zones.

That's how all this vegetation grew there. The info is in one of the links I provided.

Yeah, the public is in massive denial, while the oil companies are already setting up oil drilling as the Arctic ice retreats. It is a strange disconnect from reality.

Well the people are in denial, but governments are making carbon laws to protest the environment (Australia's carbon tax) yet governments allow new coal powered stations, new oil rigs etc... to be built in eco sensitive areas,
more to it that just global warming people, more like a global agenda, problem, reaction, solution

Hmm, as the ultimate skeptic, with an alien species working to get humanity to wipe themselves out, by creating global warming, it would be a role an alien might play.

It's possible.

When the earth was warmer everything was much nicer than now.

It's not our fault, its the sun heating up the entire solar system.
I cant wait for the floods, hope it happens soon, plenty of space on this earth but too many moronic humans, wash em away I say.

I think it will take nothing less than a global disaster of phenomenal proportions to stop the ICs from being hell bent on doing anything and everything for the pursuit of profit, irregardless of the consequences to anyone or anything.

Corporations are a virus that will feed until the host body dies.

It can't possibly last long because with this degree of yearly melt it wont be but the same handful of years before the NA current shuts down from fresh water shutting the conveyor and creates an ice age.

There is little we can do about it, it's obvious that this is the Sun as causation not just man made phenomena this is cyclical and inevitable anyway.

I learned this years ago in an undergraduate geology class. The professor was adamant that (at least at that time) the general consensus was that we were only a blip in the middle of an ice age.

That is not happening.

There's a very easy solution to global warming caused by greenhouse gases: iron. The waters surrounding Antarctica are very deficient in iron. As a result, plankton can't thrive there and don't absorb atmospheric carbon. By seeding the Southern Ocean with iron compounds, we can induce plankton growth and sink enormous amounts of carbon (to the order of a 13,000:1 ratio of carbon atoms absorbed to iron atoms seeded) to the seabed.

According to the article, it's not all that simple, and it would only cut carbon in the ocean, and it does not mention how much iron would be needed to seed the oceans.

At best it would have a minimal effect on global warming.
