Step 1. Get as many users on FB as possible.

Step 2. Make FB part of their everyday lives

Step 3. Set up whacky, complex security settings that users don't understand.

Step 4. Data mine the crap out of users for targeted marketing purposes.

Step 5. Invite merchants to the party. Give them free access to users. Get them addicted.

Step 6. Charge the merchants for targeted marketing based on data mining.

Step 7. ?

Step 8. Profit

They have more steps but the basic plan is shown here:

South Park Underpants Gnomes Profit Plan

Well, I have paid a 3rd party to have music advertised on FB.

The cost was reasonable, and the result was pleasing.

It got me thinking about FB. They have the potential to reach a metric you-know-what ton of people.

I do agree, most people probably tune out any ads for stuff like Abraxo Cleaner, or Fancy Lad Snack cakes, but for something like music, I have seen positive results in reaching an audience that I may not have reached otherwise.

My 2 cents.

congrats!
Actually, music is pretty much the only time I have paid any attention to ads, how ironic. Occasionally you see the free EP or "pay what you want" type deal. Its hard to turn down a couple free songs or the chance to discover a new artist!

Props to you, have a star!

Deleted Facebook last year, I only use Google+ now. Far better product in every way possible, except for the number of users.
