OK ignore my last post, I took another look through and finaly found it.
IMHO it's the mother ship getting ready to take all the good people off the earth before the rap starts, the rapture I think they call it

Like other ppl have said it's over exposer, to bright for the camera to correctly reproduce the image. But if this was not happening before now either the camera is messing up or the sun has suddenly increased it's brightness???

I agree that it could be too much light for the CCD to handle but in this picture it is not just an iris of the CCD you can actually see the clouds crossing into the spot.

If clouds are covering a portion of it, then that portion shouldn't be overexposed or whatever no?

I'm no expert on this but I would say the clouds are just diffusing the light enough to allow the camera to expose the shot OK where the clouds are.
The light is not as bright where the cloud cover is. Look close you can see where the cloud is only showing in it's center thickest spots. The edges of the clouds are not exposing.

For those can't seem to find the pics. Here's one with the "black object"

www.ewcd.org..." target='_blank' class='tabOff'/>

And here's a normal one...

Now let me give you my 2 cents. As an avid astrophotographer, which includes taking many pictures of the sun with a digital camera, as well as a web camera, the first picture is nothing more than the sun "burning out" the ccd censor in the camera. Nothing more, nothing less.

C'mon people, think or do a little research before jumping to conclusions.

Cheers

Honey, I've got a dozen pics on CD that look as if somebody's doing a-bomb testing or meteors are coming at us west of Salt Lake City.

I already wrote to the webmaster and asked him what the hell I'm seeing out there.

Photos beginning at 0730 and ending about 1000 were full of lights in the sky that rival Ole Sol.

I'm sure there are a lot of us looking for answers to all this stray light. Kent Steadman took some time-lapse photos of this location last spring.

I hope this works this time. Here's another web cam where the bright sun burns out the ccd pixels causing a black spot. It's nothing to worry about folks, just how low quality ccd sensors work.

I wrote the webmaster and inquired whether there was atomic testing or UFOs taking off and landing out there West of Salt Lake City.

The reply I got from Emery Water District's webmaster was something to the effect: "we don't mess with color corrections. Just connect the dots."

So, it's open season. Anything you wanna guess is probably game for discussion.

Could you post them? ATS allows members to upload stuff like that, maybe you can save them as a smallish file and upload them so people can see them?

I think that the testing of atomic bombs will leave a little more evidence of its occuranceother than some funny photos. The big advantage of a web based forum, as opposed to usenet or email listservs, is that photos can be posted. please post them if you are going to be discussing them

I tried to post them ,but didn't have any luck. However, I found another pic on the net with the same black spot that is being discussed (in my last message). It's just ccd burnout from the bright sun, nothing more.

Why don't people actually read the posts in a thread? I posted a couple of times what the black dot was.

I get the same effect with my mobile cam when I take pictures direct of the sun the middle is always black.
