I am genuinely trying to talk about this cartoon, and know what people are thinking about it here on ATS. After 2 threads got deleted i think i got all the information needed to start a thread that won't get deleted.

Here is the link to the cartoon : www.fn92100.com...

I think it is pushing the limits of freedom of speech and only seeking provocation. Also an attempt to capitalize on the current crisis.

It think is also way more offending then the movie.

What do you guys think of it?

I think the French are trying to make a point about free speech ~ that the rest of the world is not going to be silenced by a group of barbarians.

You're more than likely getting your threads deleted because there are other threads on the subject that were created before yours.

You need to add your info to them, not create a new thread.

EDIT: Here are some on the subject just going through the recent posts page.....

French Magazine Runs Cartoons That Mock Muhammad

The new Mohammad cartoon is highly offensive

But isn't a huge gamble? a bomb already exploded and they are closing embassies and school in 20 countries. What if people die on France soil regarding that cartoon ?

No everything is fine now, Totenthpower clarified things for us in the previous thread. As long as no one posts the actual cartoon or derails the thread talking about ATS policies we will be ok.

www.jta.org...

Leader of a french jewish organization condemns the cartoon, saying it was irresponsible 'in this context'. While it doesn't mean all expression is bad, it means given the situation this is an obvious provocation. And this coming from a French Jew, I am proud he for one decries ALL racism. Maybe some ats members should consider that there is a time and place? You wouldn't want me shouting 9/11 was an inside job on an anniversary, or yelling 'the holocaust is a lie' on Yom Kippur.

The link for the pictures seems to be a National Front site... as in, a Racist, Nationalist site... perhaps link to the images through another site?

The picture links to a cartoon of a drawn ball-sac and penis. I bet this will get deleted, again.

Well being the far right party in France, led by Marine Le pen i am not surprised it is the only site showing the cartoon.

Maybe it's going to take an all-out war to finally settle this BS once and for all.

We have two cultures existing in the same century. One is living in the here and now. One isn't. One must prevail. How will that be decided?

Sorry. I do not speak French and since it is an object, Google translator will not translate it.

If I knew what it said I could comment.

I think the French are showing their total misconception of good sense ( buon senso ); people should boycott the magazine, no, instead, they made a record of selling...And these people who publish this stuff put their own people at risk for rude provocation. THIS, guys, THIS is the image we are transmitting to Islam. THINK about it just for one moment.

There is going to be violence regardless. If people get so offended over a movie or a cartoon that they are wanting to declare war than they are the problem, not a movie, not a cartoon.

If people censor themselves because a group of idiots are going to resort to violence than those censoring themselves are encouraging that violence. (throw a tantrum, get your way)
If they don't censor themselves, there may be violence. At least by not censoring themselves a valid and important point is being made.

Every group of people in this world gets picked on, if you can't handle it than maybe you aren't fit for this world.

You're Muslim, Christian, Jewish a dang Jedi - good for you, best wishes, live long and prosper, but guess what? Not everyone believes the same thing you do! *shock, horror, gasp*

Since muslims following the precepts of their peaceful religion will kill you or someone else if you don't.

Or burn poppies on Remembrance Sunday or burn US flags outside their embassies on the anniversary of 9/11.
