Why leave those who voted for Kerry out of it? If there is a draft,
it would mean that KERRY was in office. Bush has said that he won't
have a draft. It's the DEMS who introduced the draft bill. It's Kerry
who says he needs 40,000 more troops to go to Iraq.

Heck ... if there was a draft, what would I do? I'd be crying because
I'd know that traitor Kerry was in the Oval Office and that the draft
could have been avoided if America had voted for George Bush.

Well-said FlyersFan - thanks for pointing that out. I am so sick of this talk about there being a draft because of Bush. It is not going to happen while he is in office - that much is clear. Kerry on the other hand, like you said, wants to make our military 40,000 people stronger. Where is he going to get these people? Is he going to give a bigger enlistment bonus? Kerry also says he want to double the amount of Special Operations Forces. How is he going to do this? Is he going to lower the standards of these units to allow for more people to complete the selection and training of the said units? That is not a good idea at all.

I am glad to be in the military under Bush and most of the soldiers that I serve with are the same way. My brother is an Army Special Forces soldier (Green Beret) and he has told me that in his 20 year career, he has never met a liberal special operations soldier. I think that says a lot. To me that says that the kind of people with that level of intestinal fortitude and selfless patriotism just do not have the ability nor the desire to have a selve-serving liberal mind-set at the same time. You can try and think of reasons of why this is, but you cannot say that is because they don't know what really goes on in the world.

Don't get me wrong, I think that a lot of liberals have patriotic feelings and are sincere and have made many things in America better, but all of this does not outweigh the bad. I realize that my post's subject is straying from that of the thread as a whole, so I will leave it at that.

I can only say what I actually did when there was a draft. I joined the Marine Corps while in high school and left for Boot Camp eleven days after having graduated. And when it was all over, I came home and went on about my life, as best I could.

That was the smartest thing I ever did. Now, thirty-five years later, when people my age are pointing the finger at each other and questioning each others actions, motives and loyaties, mine are a matter of record and I can look any man straight in the eye, when it comes to my service.

The most pathetic thing to see is grown men hem and haw their myriad excuses for not having served and I love watching them do it. No man with a soul can ever feel good about having missed his opportunity to go to war to fight in the cause of freedom.

St. Crispen's Day Speech

William Shakespeare, 1599

Enter the KING

WESTMORELAND.
O that we now had here
But one ten thousand of those men in England
That do no work to-day!

KING. What's he that wishes so?

My cousin Westmoreland? No, my fair cousin;
If we are mark'd to die, we are enow
To do our country loss; and if to live,
The fewer men, the greater share of honour.

God's will! I pray thee, wish not one man more.
By Jove, I am not covetous for gold,
Nor care I who doth feed upon my cost;
It yearns me not if men my garments wear;
Such outward things dwell not in my desires.

But if it be a sin to covet honour,
I am the most offending soul alive.
No, faith, my coz, wish not a man from England.
God's peace! I would not lose so great an honour

As one man more methinks would share from me
For the best hope I have. O, do not wish one more!
Rather proclaim it, Westmoreland, through my host,
That he which hath no stomach to this fight,

Let him depart; his passport shall be made,
And crowns for convoy put into his purse;
We would not die in that man's company
That fears his fellowship to die with us.

This day is call'd the feast of Crispian.
He that outlives this day, and comes safe home,
Will stand a tip-toe when this day is nam'd,
And rouse him at the name of Crispian.

He that shall live this day, and see old age,
Will yearly on the vigil feast his neighbours,
And say 'To-morrow is Saint Crispian.'
Then will he strip his sleeve and show his scars,

And say 'These wounds I had on Crispian's day.'
Old men forget; yet all shall be forgot,
But he'll remember, with advantages,
What feats he did that day. Then shall our names,

Familiar in his mouth as household words-
Harry the King, Bedford and Exeter,
Warwick and Talbot, Salisbury and Gloucester-
Be in their flowing cups freshly rememb'red.

This story shall the good man teach his son;
And Crispin Crispian shall ne'er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remembered-

We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition;

And gentlemen in England now-a-bed
Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day.

And I'm damn proud of it too. Oh, and nice generalization by the way.

Originally posted by mwm1331Whether you agree with the war is irrelevant they call you go.

So what you ae saying is that a persons ideals, beliefs, way of life, and moral values come in second when dealing with imperialistic wars started by their country?

Originally posted by mwm1331If you have moral objections to fighting in a war than be a man about it and do what Ali did. Announce your objections, and live with the consequences. Ali gave up the world heavy weight title to object to the war, but he didnt run like a bit*h.

That’s your plan? Say that you don't support it and then go fight anyway. That’s quite hypocritical there buddy.

1) its not a generalisation if you dodge the draft you are breaking the law. Is it a generalisation to say all murderers are criminals? Legally refusing to serve when drafted is treason.
2) yes a persons morals, beliefs, ethics, etc are irrelevant when drfted. Its the price you pay for being a citizen.
3) Uhhh Muhamed Ali never fought in vietnam. He stated he was a conscientious objector and refused to fight. He went to prison (I believe) and was stripped of his title but he did not go to war. He acted like a man and dealt with the consequences of his actions. If there is a draft and your morals will not allow you to fight you can do the same.

Let me explain something to all of you. This is not a matter of opinion. As a citizen of the US, in the event of a draft you are legally requred to report for duty. Thats all there is. your ethics, opinions, morals, way of life etc. is irelevant. They do not matter.
