Funny thing, the same thing happened to me last time I told my wife she was wearing something unflattering... Lesson learned.

I am sure that the Iranian government is very much aware of the abuses going on inside Iran .. both on the streets and in the prisons. Afterall .. they are intimately involved with them.

And as far as your 'concern' over misogynistic men getting beaten up by women in Iran ... your emails would be better utilized by telling the knuckle-dragging men to come out of the stone ages and to mind their own business. Live and let live. That would be a MUCH more effective use of your computer emailing system.

I'll take that one step further. It's not just time for them to get out of the stone ages and stop acting like knuckle draggers. I say it's time these "men" actually grew up and started acting like men. Let's face it they are a pretty pathetic example of manliness. Friends that have been to that region all say the men there are total cowards and wannabe pre pubescent adults.

I say we make an amnesty rule for the women and children under a certain age from that region. Party back at the USA all are welcome... No guys.

This thread made my day! Thanks for posting.

I wanted to get a little closer to an Iranian source and found this.

I’m not a supporter of violence, but as a woman who grew up in Iran and was harassed many times for appearing in public in a way that was deemed un-Islamic, I understand the frustration that woman in Semnan must have felt and why she lashed out at the cleric.

(Here are my thoughts on the hijab in Iran.)

For the past 30 years, Iranian women have been harassed, detained, fined, and threatened by the morality police, security forces, and zealots over their appearance. Women have fought back in different ways, including by pushing the boundaries of acceptable dress and criticizing the rules, which apply only to women.

Officially, the hijab is promoted as “protection” for women against evil in society. For many women, however, the hijab feels like a burden, an insult, a limitation of their freedom and an attempt to keep them under control.

Young girls often cite the mandatory hijab as one of the main reasons they want to leave Iran and move to another country. Women being mistreated by the police because of their hijabs have become a common scene on the streets of the Iranian capital and other cities, especially during the hot summer months when the hijab crackdown intensifies.

There have also been cases of women clashing with the morality police, including a number of cases that have been documented by citizen journalists and posted on YouTube.

The situation has led to conflicts between women and religious zealots such as Beheshti, who believe that the Islamic principle of “commanding right and forbidding wrong” makes it their duty to lecture women about their appearance and choice of dress.

Mehr reports that attacks against clerics similar to the one involving Beheshti are not rare. The news agency issued the names of three other clerics, including a representative of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who have been attacked.

Then this part ...the ugly, utter disregard for the female:

The prosecutor has referred to the case as an incident of a "public beating."

Of course, when the same type of incident is reversed -- a "badly veiled" women beaten in public by police -- it’s simply a necessary enforcement of the dress code.

She was PROTECTING HERSELF against the ignorant cleric.

And if you want to point fingers at 'violence to get things done' you should be looking at the ignorant 'morals police' that run around beating up women who dare to show an ankle or a wrist. And you should be looking at the radical muslims around the world who are rioting and killing people all (supposedly) because they don't like a film that was on the internet.

THAT is 'violence to get things done'.

Not a woman who is protecting herself from the misogynistic ignorance of a muslim cleric. She probably got treated poorly and talked down to one too many times ... and decided to push back. Again .. I say KUDOS to her for standing up for herself.

I find this of great interest. Not due to the women assaulting a cleric. Wikileaks released a document indicating a general lack of support for the on going invasion of Afghanistan. The Doc was addressed to the British gov. We ( America ) suggested in rather strong terms that ANY act committed against females by Muslim men perceived as unsavory by western standards should be front page news. This was designed to enlist the support of feminists to encourage the continued presence of Western influence in the region. In Iran many women have taken on a Western style of dress with no ill effects.
Equally, many ( mostly the older generation ) chose a more orthodox mod of dress due to adherence of religious dictates. When you slam Muslin women for adhering to THEIR religious beliefs it is akin to mocking Orthodox Jews [ Chassidic women ] You think you're defending or somehow liberating the women when you are doing them a huge disservice. You have the audacity to claim YOUR values trump those of the female Muslim population. It would appear the Ploy to engage feminists in the fight against Muslims has been a great success. Congratulations.

Actually its a woman dominated culture if they can walk around 90% naked. It's a woman dominated culture where a woman can make 1 million bucks for a porno film while the guy gets paid 50 dollars.

I love this story! Good for this woman!

Iran Cleric Pummeled by ‘Badly Covered’ Woman After Warning

An Iranian cleric said he was beaten by a woman in the northern province of Semnan after giving her a warning for being “badly covered,” the state-run Mehr news agency reported.

Hojatoleslam Ali Beheshti said he encountered the woman in the street while on his way to the mosque in the town of Shahmirzad, and asked her to cover herself up, to which she replied “you, cover your eyes,” according to Mehr. The cleric repeated his warning, which he said prompted her to insult and push him.

“I fell on my back on the floor,” Beheshti said in the report. “I don’t know what happened after that, all I could feel was the kicks of this woman who was insulting me and attacking me.”

Maybe this cleric will understand a bit better how wrong it is for men to run around Iran and be 'morals police' .. beating up women and hospitalizing them. He got a taste of what they go through. Maybe it'll make him a better person.

It is my sincerest hope that the women of these nations revolt on their masters and become free.

To be so horrifically weak of faith that the sight of an improperly clothed female would destroy the Presence of God in your heart, maybe then it's not the presence of God in the first place. The true Presence holds power that cannot be dislodged even if you want to. There is no "off switch" for the true Presence of Providence.

It really is that weak. They are so afraid of women that it's ridiculous. You would think that the women would finally have enough and not put up with it any longer.

Good for her! It's about time we see a woman standing up for her rights in that part of the world. I would love to see more of this. My only fear is that she may be retaliated against in the worst way possible.

It gives me a glimmer of hope in this world. Maybe a very tiny one. But I can see that glimmer. I hope she stays safe!

Wait what?
Okay bear with me here, I usually just lurk around ATS but I had to make an actual account to respond to this, so I'm not sure if I'm doing this right, but..
What the hell are you saying? Do you understand the pressure Iranian women have to go through?
I've been to Iran to visit, and honestly the number of times I've been told to fix my headscarf and been threatened by any guards at the plaza or anything, I'd need friends to tell them that I'm not from there and that I'm a tourist.
She's in no way acting like a whore. Women in Iran need freedom, clothing is a way of expressing yourself, and it should be a choice to cover up the way they have to. If by showing your ankles or wrists or having your hair out gives the impression of being a "whore," then I don't know what people who wear shorts or t-shirts daily in the West or in any other part of the world would be called?

All the feminist ladies will be like 'yeh you go girl' stand up for your right beat him up

but then the minute this same girl flirts/steals away one of the womens boyfriends/husbands they be like 'why is she dressed like that omg what an attention wh....'

so then they be telling this girl 'we have a problem, you are badly covered'

women are no better than men and vice versa, anyone who tells you otherwise is a hypocrite

Same News source ref "Iranians also go to resorts like Antalya, Bodrum and Kuşadasi on the Mediterranean coast. They do not seem to mind the crowds, the nightlife or the wild party atmosphere. *****************But the stereotype of Iranian women coming to Turkey to enjoy the freedom to ditch the hejab and switch to a bikini is not wholly accurate; many remain easily recognisable in the headscarves and long coats they would wear back Tehran." ******************** < Just to make a point.
I'd also suggest the OP may be a misandrist , just my two cents, no greater or lesser value than any other opinion.

obviously she is not raised up to the true standards of a free women, she is westernised, i bet she listens to lady gaga and madonna on her cd player.

This kind of trolling on ATS is getting to be ridiculous. No attempt to add to the thread. No attempt to discuss the actual topic on hand.

Instead, it's a drive-by post meant to invoke sharp responses as you know damn well she didn't dress like a whore. I think it's also probably a correct assumption to assume that if some guy walked up to your wife or loved one and demanded they cover up their ankles, forearms or face, you wouldn't have any of it and would tell him to get lost.

I'd love to see trolls like this banned, yet they keep popping up.

Actually, Iran has the worst track record for human rights.. worse even than Saudia Arabia and that is saying a lot.
The only one who gets to decide what a woman should wear is her. It is no one else's business.

1 - Having an ankle or a wrist showing is not 'looking like a whore' .. no matter what the ignorant men of the Iranian 'morals police' say. The article didn't say how she was dressed, but considering it's Iran that we are talking about, it's no telling what exactly this cleric found to be considered 'badly covered'. A simple wrist showing can get a woman a beating over there. :shk:

2 - She was correct .. if that cleric didn't like the fact that she wasn't covered up to his misogynistic standards, HE should have covered HIS eyes. It's his problem .. not hers. HE should have minded his own business.

i bet she listens to lady gaga and madonna on her cd player.

1 - I bet she doesn't listen to Madonna because Madonna is passe.
2 - If she listens to Lady Gaga then she shows good taste in her rock music selection.
3 - Listening to Madonna or Lady Gaga doesn't make a woman a whore.

Since ATS admonishes me to give credit where credit is due, I promise to give you credit for being an idiot. Islam is the most violent, savage, barbaric, bunch of mentally backward goons in world history.

Now send the guy to me and I will finish him off.

Love,
Granny
