You are entitled to your own opinion…if we say so.

It has come to a point, where you can no longer speak your mind on what you believe. There is always an opposing force who is going to tell you are wrong, to put words in your mouth, or just to simply to censor your thoughts/opinion.

When your opinion ruffles the feathers of others, their power trips come to the surface. You will find them doing everything in their power to censor, discredit, and defame you. If you go against their grain and call their bluff, they will change the writing on the walls to protect their vested interest.

We are at that point. The point where all the new ideas are hidden behind the wall of misinformation, to help produce a profit or a gain in some manner. You can no longer point out the wolf in sheep's clothing without the shepherds canning you for making the others aware. We are experiencing this everyday now. We live in a society that loves to force feed people the popular belief and deny others their right to free thought. A society where criticism is freely given but violently received then censored.

So you are entitled to your opinion but do yourself a favor and keep it to yourself…. because it won't change anyone's mind and if it does, then it will only be a matter of time before it is censored or deleted.

Good luck

There is absolutely nothing new about that! That very thing has been going on for many thousands of years. Unfortunately, that seems to be the nature of humans.

See ya,

When you've been around a while, you'll know that I am Mr. Confusion, and your post has done it again for me. Allow me to explain why:

You are entitled to your own opinion…if we say so.
Of course, you can have any opinion you want, the problem you might be having is in using someone else's private resources to spread that opinion. You really can't make anyone publish your opinion.

It has come to a point, where you can no longer speak your mind on what you believe.
I can't quite see that. There are some of the oddest, no, let me correct that, stupidest opinions this side of the asylum walls to be found on this website. And any opinion that can't be found here can be found somewhere on the internet.

Well, if you're expressing your opinion, "they" will express theirs. There will be debate and, usually, a debate that gets ugly. Look at what the presidential candidates get thrown at them. What do you expect?

We live in a society that loves to force feed people the popular belief and deny other's their right to free thought. A society where criticism is freely given but violently received then censored.
Sorry, I don't think it's as extreme as you do. Free thought and criticism are all over the place in this country, unlike others. While it seems strange, sometimes I think that the more violently and imaginatively one expresses their hatred for this country, the more media attention and support they get.

So you are entitled to your opinion but do yourself a favor and keep it to yourself…. because it won't change anyones mind and if it does, then it will only be a matter of time before it is censored or deleted.
But, you're not keeping your opinion to yourself, are you? And you're expressing it in a private place that has rules.

I suppose I just don't understand your problem.

I'm aware that this is not a new observation of human behavior, especially from ones in power positions. It is based on a certain situation that happened an hour ago that has inspired me to cryptically write about the observation of the act of censoring a truthful statement to protect one's reputation and to prevent the truth from being accessible by the public.

I'm not trying to inform anyone of this matter...just ranting about it without violating the T&C.

That additional information clarifies some things for me, but causes more confusion over all. Why bother with making the rant?

You're not getting the "truth" out and 99+ % of the people on ATS have no idea what you are talking about, or whose reputation has been hurt.

If the "truth" isn't related to Hitler or some illegal activity (or is really, really yucky), I can't imagine any Mod giving you a tough time posting it.

So, what is the "truth?"

The point of the OP, which was confusing for you due to my wording, is that your thoughts/opinions/presentation of facts are only acceptable if:
- they are mainstream ideas
- go with the flow/grain
- benefit the power's agenda
- misinform or lack truthful information

If your thoughts/opinions/presentation of facts are found to:
- shed light on ugly truths
- provide people with useful information
- go against the grain
- make one question the status-quo
then you will find that the opposing force will censor, attempt to discredit, and defame you. That is the point of the OP.

I may have misunderstood your meaning in these lines but I assume you are referencing this website. I would like to have it be noticed that I never referenced ATS in the OP.
But I agree that one cannot expect someone to use their private resources to help spread an opposing opinion/fact. I don't have a problem with that at all.
I am also fully aware that I didn't keep my opinion to myself but I did so knowing that my opinion/thought/observation would be discredited/defamed/or censored. Also, this website ->Topic->Thread are on a public website that is registered from commercial use (dot com). I knew I was publicly expressing how I felt.
But the last sentence you wrote summed up the whole OP, so you did get it the whole time.
You cannot express an opinion that is against status quo because it will break a "rule."

Not that I am trying to avoid your question but I am not willing to indulge (due to T&C violation) in what inspired me to author this thread.

I stated in my last reply to you what the meaning of the OP was intended to come across and I believe that it is in the line with the "rules" that you mentioned. I intended the OP and the discussion after to be related to the topic, not about a specific example of what would make me feel this way.

The following is my opinion as a member participating in this discussion.

You are entitled to your own opinions, not your own facts.

When one's opinion conflicts with the facts at hand, some people have a hard time understanding, accepting the facts and moving on, regardless of their opinion.

Very few places on ther internet provide you with 'freedom of speech' or 'freedom of opinon'. They mostly have a set rules that must be adhered to, in order to take advantage of the venue they put forth.

The goal is never to stifle anybody's particular opinion or beliefs. Some are to encourage intelligent conversation and debate, others are just because they wish to not have that topic discussed.

It's mostly a little bit of A & B. That's the way the internet is.

However, shutting up and not opining is kind of counter intuitive and is one of the tools that those who control us use to keep their power so strong over all of us. So I would suggest that in RL you keep your freedom to say whatever you want, when you want and then choose your battles and audience on the internet.

Just a thought.

~Tenth

Dear imnotanother,

Thank you for your courteous replies. I think I understand a little better about your deeply felt emotions on the issue. It appears that you have identified a stumbling block in your path toward presenting your opinions. Tothetenthpower has suggested one strategy for real life which can also be used here, "Pick your battles."

I believe that with a little thought you can discover the trigger words that should not be used, and the approaches that work for this particular audience. I'm not an expert in that area myself, I don't care that much about getting my opinions out, but I'm sure you can read some posts and threads that will show you how to approach sensitive topics.

With respect,
Charles1952
