Several of my recent threads address this same issue, in one way or another. And there are many facets to consider.
Take the Erad example. A person came to this community and dropped a few posts. He probably landed here via Google search, tried to find allies, and
failed. But, still, our community ended up embroiled in the conversation simply because an insane cyber-drifter happened through.
The term "conspiracy theorist" is already synonymous with "fringe" and "a bit off" - but it's now becoming an insult, used in the media quite
often. It is an instant marginalization tool. Oh, and more and more news stories are being shifted from the heading of "real news" into the
alternative spectrum.
IMO, yes, people like us are seeing the beginning stages of political attack. I predict that one day soon it will become commonplace for folks like us
to find out we cannot fly because we've posted to sites like ATS - even if those posts were rational, peaceful, and well intentioned.
Time will tell.
