No joke; I’m voting Cthulhu for president in 2012. Here’s why you should too.

I remember as a child listening to the election returns and laughing at some of the write in votes that would come in such as Mickey Mouse, Bugs Bunny and other cartoon characters. There was always one write in vote that I found somewhat disturbing; Satan or the Devil. I always wondered what type of person would actually vote for the personification of evil to run this country of ours.

As I grew up and learned more about how this country of mine is really run, I think I have come to understand those votes that disturbed me in my youth. They weren’t actually voting for Satan for president, they were sending the message that they understood how the system was set up against us and they refused to make a false choice between two evils.

As we approach our quadrennial election pageant, representatives of our two-headed Hydra (that would be the Democratic and Republican Parties) will plead for our vote. To the extent that the Hydra analogy is accurate, there is no place else to go. Whether you see it as one party or two parties, it is impossible to win the vote without the material support of elites. That has been locked down by the Hydra. So why vote?

The Kremlin was not defensive about Stalin’s wins at the polls. Instead it could boast of the many millions that affirmed the leadership on that day. It didn’t matter that it was a ballot of one because, crucially, the ballot had been validated. The people’s vote signified continuance of the state. The Hydra is always promising change, but an individual’s vote for it is always about continuance. It is unrealistic to expect anything else because the elite interests that are so firmly entrenched in our society are not about to be undone by the party, or parties if you prefer it, that represent them.

‘Get out the vote’ is a plea for continuance, certainly not a plea for a radical party, meaning not a real plea for change. An individual longing for change within the current system, i.e., no revolution, faces a choice of two infinitesimals. Voting for a radical, or withholding the vote. The wisest choice may be, learning from the Soviet experience, that it is best not to validate the system by participating in it. Even better may be the active choice of registering, going to the polls, and returning a blank ballot to signify the illegitimacy of a coercive election apparatus that essentially stifles radical party growth. Even better would be if blank ballots were categorized as such and counted. Like said, it’s infinitesimal, but a universe started that way.

Imagine the panic that would set in when the number of blank ballots reached sufficiently high. Pressure from below. The only thing that has ever mattered. There is something here for game theorists. What if I return a blank ballot, but there is no cooperation and the wrong person is elected? No loss. Following described circumstances, the wrong person is always elected.

Sure, we could go the route they recommend and return an empty ballot but, empty ballots are not counted and, in the end will be easily ignored by those in power. We could write in “empty” but, then they might count those votes as being for the “empty chair president” Obama. We could vote for Satan or the Devil but, in this day and age, those names have lost their power. Besides, with our luck, Old Nick would show up in the flesh to accept the position. Some may decide to make a principled stand and vote 3rd party but, if the Republicans have their way, we won’t even have that option in many states.

I think the best option is to vote Cthulhu for president in 2012. Cthulhu is a literary figure who personifies the ultimate evil that seeks to devour us all but; he is only a fictional character after all. Best of all, there are already web pages up and running supporting his candidacy so he’s already an established and familiar name in this election year. Best of all, his campaign slogan says exactly why we are casting our votes in this way; because we are sick and tired of being forced to choose between the lesser of two evils.

This year, I have decided to refuse to continue to validate their corrupt system which forces us to choose between two nearly identical candidates who are both bad for America. I have decided to send a message to the establishment that I am no longer fooled by their two-party charade and will not participate in their corrupt electoral system.

You may say I am throwing away my vote but, I strongly believe that a vote for ANY establishment candidate is a vote thrown away. I believe the strongest way to use my vote is to cast it in favor of the one who will really send a message to the powers that be. The one who says I am not fooled and refuse to be their pawn anymore. I choose Cthulhu and offer him (it?) my full endorsement (for what little that’s worth) in this election. I suggest that anyone else who is sick of our bogus election system join me so we can let the establishment know that they aren’t fooling us and we refuse to validate their corrupt system anymore.

Vote Cthulhu in 2012 and send a real message to those in power and maybe help to wake up a few more sheeple while you’re at it.

Besides, imagine how much more fun the debates would be to watch with Cthulhu in the running?

I think the running joke for years is what is so telling by how I'm not so sure it's funny anymore.

The reason they won't allow 'None of the above' is they know it would win.

These days, I'll add they've probably figured out the cost of running the election over again when it won by a landslide in some bean counter's dark basement in Washington somewhere. We'd probably go half a dozen rounds and into next Summer before getting one where None of the above didn't win with a comfy margin. Yes, indeed. If only they'd give us the choice to choose neither, officially. Voter turn out would set records too I'll bet.

I'm voting for myself.....everyone should. Why not? I feel just as qualified. Wouldn't that be funny if everyone voted for themselves instead of some [SNIP]? How would the electoral college react to that...especially if they all, individually, voted for themselves too?

This should be a prominent campaign in the 2016 election cycle: Vote for Yourself and Everyone Wins

There really is no one worth voting for this time around.
Also, since this has been predetermined by tptb, and since voting is a moot point, why not?

I think voting should not just have a tick box for who you would like to be in charge, but also a tick box if you don't what them in charge. This way you don't have to vote for the lesser of two evils, you can say I don't want either of you. If the for votes are less than the 'we don't want you' votes then the candidate does not get get the job. If both fail, then people should get to write the name of who they really do want in charge, this way independent people would have a chance too.

You do realize that it's a vote that doesn't count, thus the same as not voting right? A write-in candidate has to be eligible to assume office by law.

Moreover, in some states, like Ohio, require a write-in candidate to be a registered candidate for President (but they failed to make the ballot).

On a side note, I agree with the Op but I wouldn't vote for Cthulhu. I'd vote for Doctor Who. He can get us out of anything just like he's saved the humans so many times before. And he'd have to pick Amy Pond as VP and Rory as Secretary of State. Gosh, I could look at Amy all day.

Voting Cthulhu isn't about getting "our guy" into office; its about sending the message to the establishment that we're on to their game and we refuse to validate their process by voting for one of their candidates.

Voting for an invalid candidate who cannot hold office is the whole point of voting Cthulhu. We are telling them that we know that it doesn't matter who wins the election because it will still be the same insiders behind the scenes pulling the strings and continuing the same destructive policies that have been dragging this country into a debt spiral of oblivion for decades.

Obama promised to end the Bush wars, close Guantanamo and increase taxes on the rich to pay for the debt. He accomplished none of those goals. In fact, he doubled down on the war on "terror" and is now treating the American public as if we are all potential domestic "terrorists". Obama is proof positive that voting for change will only ensure the continuance of the same tired policies.

Does anyone think that getting Romney into office will suddenly change everything for the better and lead to sunny days ahead? I think even the most die-hard Republicans know there won't be much change under Romney.

The best option in this election, in my opinion, is to send the message that we refuse to validate their corrupt system by voting for one of their puppet candidates. Don't vote for either side and vote for an invalid candidate instead.

Maybe if they realize that enough people are on to their game, they will have to make real reforms needed to keep our political system from flowing into the gutter as it has been for so many years. Either that, or maybe this will wake up enough people to take action and overthrow the corrupt political system that we are trapped in.

Either way, its a win for the people.
