A vaccine that could bring an end to deaths from malaria is on the verge of being developed, it has been revealed.

An experimental drug on trial in Africa has been shown to reduce the chances of young children becoming ill with the mosquito-spread disease by 30% over six months.

Of the 2,000 children taking part in the study in Mozambique, almost 60% fewer than usual developed severe malaria.

Malaria is the number one killer amongst children in Africa, a vaccine could cut the number of deaths that are caused by the often deadly disease.
The current yearly death toll stands at just above one million people, a huge percentage of this originating in Africa.
A new vaccine is greatly needed as resistance to anti-malarial drugs is increasing, potentially putting more people at risk, especially in the region of sub-Saharan Africa which currently deals with over 90% of all Malaria cases.
