Here's the thing that's disturbing here, folks:

The person who financed and directed the 'film', Sam Bacile, doesn't exist.
The film was admittedly financed by donations from Jewish families.
The film was dubbed into Arabic and distributed on major Arabic social sites by parties unknown.
The film hired actors whose lines were overdubbed. The actors admitted they had no idea what they were filming.
The person, who doesn't exist but still managed to give phone interviews to Wall Street Journal, has 'gone into hiding'.
Consultants for the film did not know Sam Bacile's real name.
The attacks on the Benghazi consulate were also coordinated and planned in advance, the US government has admitted as much.

Take into account the timing, namely Netanyahu scolding Obama for not ramping up the pressure on Iran and Obama giving Netanyahu the cold shoulder in return, this is all looking WAY TOO MUCH like a political psyche job meant to punish the United States for not doing what a certain "ally" wanted us to do.

Just a thought...or two...

Hell no, the response wasn't warranted. The right wing super religious need to grow up, and cut it out. Religion is not your crutch. You are men, gods incarnate. Don't do this to yourselves. Grow up, and cut it out.

To the "unknown party" that incited this mess...good luck with Iran, China, and Russia. This is on you, and you alone.

Is this what happens when we disobey our benevolent masters?

Obama, show some brass. Tell them we don't answer to them. Iran is their problem, no matter what they attempt!

This Sam Bacile film is just the tip of the iceberg, most of the propaganda is much more insidious. Tell a lie often enough and people will believe it.
The Zionist politicians caused the 911 collapse, the Zionist bankers made money from it and the Zionist media blamed the Muslims.
Many people believe those statements and yet when the Zionist propaganda machine produces crap like this, intelligent people buy into it and use it as an excuse to demonise Muslims.

Facts are funny things. They tend to get in the way of preconceptions and ideologies. There are some things I find quite interesting about the developments. First and foremost was the immediate response by western faiths to reverse the hate speech and claim an assault on their own faith. This isn't to say it doesn't happen, it most certainly does, and shouldn't be considered acceptable against any peoples with peaceful intentions. It's also a form of reverse psychology by playing the victim. There are also some strange coincidences in regards to the apparent strain on the relationship between the leadership of the U.S. and Israel. This is obvious with Obama declining a meeting with Netanyahu. What are the real reasons for the relationship strain? What's the story behind the story? Then there is this film. Unfortunately we don't really know who funded and made the film. The filmmaker apparently originally claimed to be an Israeli American (joint citizen?), but later on it was claimed that he was Egyptian. This individual may disappear and we may never know who it really was. As of now we can't say for certain he was Jewish. We just don't know. How would Americans react if it was discovered that this was an Israeli operation? It's purely hypothetical at this point, but we can't completely dismiss the possibility. Very strange situation to say the least.S&F

The person who financed and directed the film exists, but his name isnt Sam.

No more than Tom Cruises name is his.

Its well known how muslims tend to react when someone insults their prophet. So just why would someone spend $5 million dollars on making a film, with actors and professional equipment to make a movie that intentionally offends muslims?

Seeing how poorly this movie was done... I doubt its makers even seriously intended this to be screened in theaters or released commercially. Who in their right minds would pay to watch a poorly done, badly acted film?. And it'd be interesting to know just how the producer was going to distribute or show the movie? I dont think jewish donors who funded the film can expect to see any profits coming out of this.

It looks like someone with 5 million dollars to burn made this stupid film for the purpose of inciting.

If we go by the hypothetical route that it was Israeli funded then I don't think a direct monetary gain was expected. It was an attempt to destabilize the region particularly Iran, in hopes to incite enough violence to pull the U.S. into more military action in the region. It's actually not that far of a leap to get there, especially considering Netanyahu's statements a couple of days ago.I wouldn't absolutely prescribe to the theory, but the possibility is still there when you look at how things have been unfolding for the past couple of weeks. I'm glad someone had the fortitude to make a thread examining the possibility. I think it's naive to say it's impossible, like the leadership of Israel really cares about Americans.

Thank you to those that have so far replied. Jordan Maxwell has said something along the lines "that nothing works the way we think it does". There was a thread tonight where the poster titled it with the suggestion that Mr Stevens got what he deserved. I think the op was on the right track but used an ill-worded title for his his point which was automatically swarmed with chest beating patriots and other Muslim haters seemingly missing the point. Having another false flag on 9-11? No, couldn't be true... I do believe that it is not a far stretch to take interest in the suggestion that "it" (the whole damn mess) is a power play to take control of a banking system separate to the global banking farce that is considered an honest part of all that is good. There has also been the suggestion that possibly Israel, or someone tied to Israel is creating a situation that will further mire the US and it's military people into the thickening quagmire that is commonly known as spreading democracy at the tip of a barrel, or, sadly if you're the target, the head of a bomb. If that is a run on sentence I apologize. I too am a vet. Been around the globe. It's a diverse marble and we have our hands in everybody's cookie jar. Many of the posts that I have read, not only on ATS, but also on other places on the web, seem to show many people are ready to turn the Middle East and it's people into a sheet of useless glass, or sans that, we'll be happy to sacrifice more of our own people towards a goal that only benefits those with a much deeper agenda. This whole bogus film story is stunningly stupid factually while being touted by the MSM as the credible reason for the incident resulting in the deaths of four people initially but still evolving presently. So much of what I see replied seems to be a representation of just how clouded many people's interpretation of actuality or reality really is. Yet, to the clouded one they might see my post as me being the one clouded in conspiracy theory because I don't buy the agenda driven spin as fact at all. I wish all humans could get some unity and some peace. Most importantly to me, I remember being in my early twenties having returned from the Middle East on my last Navy tour. I remember thinking what a messed up World we are part of and how I hoped that one day in my children's future we would have some sort of freaking epiphany and things would become better. Here we are twenty years later and we are still busy taking one step forward and two steps back. Sadly, it is all by the power plays of people with a lust for greed and power and or the possible fulfillment of some self centered religious bend that seems to go completely against the grain of any passionate regard to all other humans who don't happen to jive with your outlook. And you can't say that that is simply a one sided affair of I'm right, you're wrong. Everyone on the marble should have to read Johnny Got His Gun, by Dalton Trumbo. It makes one reassess giving up ones personal liberty to a cause far away to you personally. Maybe fewer people would take up arms, or be willing to, if they read this book. Nothing else seems to be working.

Quite the rabbit hole when looked into:

LOS ANGELES — The anti-Muslim film implicated in mob protests against U.S. diplomatic missions in the Mideast received logistical help from a man once convicted of financial crimes and featured actors who complained that their inflammatory dialogue was dubbed in after filming.

The self-proclaimed director of “Innocence of Muslims” initially claimed a Jewish and Israeli background. But others involved in the film said his statements were contrived as evidence mounted that the film’s key player was a southern Californian Coptic Christian with a checkered past.

www.thestar.com... ed-past

Coptic Christian - criminal past - banking fraud. Interesting background.

Pastor Terry Jones of Gainesville, Fla., who sparked outrage in the Arab world when he burned Qurans on the ninth anniversary of Sept. 11, said he spoke with the movie’s director on the phone Wednesday and prayed for him. Jones said he has not met the filmmaker in person, but added that the man contacted him a few weeks ago about promoting the movie.

Oh, God... no, not Terry Jones!

The Southern Poverty Law Center, which monitors hate groups, said Klein is a former Marine and longtime religious-right activist who has helped train paramilitary militias at a California church. It described Klein as founder of Courageous Christians United, which conducts protests outside abortion clinics, Mormon temples and mosques.

Jesus wept.

Thanks for the thread and for your title, may cooler heads prevail. star/flag
All the posts flooding ATS today, about who is to blame, the selective outrage, the religon-bashing and hatred towards each other, have left me baffeled, i was asking myself have we learned nothing from the past.

I'm quite certain we are being played, collectively, once again. But before we eventually arrive there, lets try your approach.

I refuse to get into the discussion about how the Obama Administration is to blame, because how the statements were worded, the timeline of the response or any of this, there are far more important information, that could lead to the cause of has happened here.

this site quotes CNN featured story

A Libyan security source told CNN a jihadist group that is suspected of carrying out the strike, the Imprisoned Omar Abdul Rahman Brigades, left leaflets at the scene claiming the attack was in retaliation for the death of Libyan al Qaeda No. 2 Abu Yahya al Libi.

After further analysis they come to the conclusion

While we cannot definitely conclude that the attacks in Benghazi were planned, they were certainly preceded by previous attempts — and with two suspected organizations; it is difficult to ignore the cover provided by coinciding timing of protests in Cairo and political importance of de-stabilizing a nascent Libyan government. Either way, it is reasonable to expect increased drone activity in Yemen and Libya in attempt to thwart Al Qaeda’s operations.

Drone Strikes

In an interview session on Democracy Now, Jeremy Scahill has this to say.

I mean, WikiLeaks confirmed the kinds of things that Abdulelah Haider Shaye was alleging and that the U.S. and Yemeni governments had such a problem with being revealed—namely, that the U.S. has this covert war in Yemen and that it’s actively conspired with the Yemeni government to cover up the American role and that Yemen often takes credit for operations that are U.S. operations.

The interview was about Abdulelah Haider Shaye:

a Yemeni journalist who exposed how the United States was behind a 2009 bombing in Yemen that killed 14 women and 21 children. In January 2011, a Yemeni state security court gave the journalist, Abdulelah Haider Shaye, a five-year jail sentence on terrorism-related charges following a disputed trial that was condemned by several human rights and press freedom groups

It is not about what the Obama Administration does not do, it is about what they are doing, what the previous Administration did and what the next will do...if nothing changes.

The most clear thing is that they want to bring division and to fulfill their old vicious dream.

This is a trap for Muslims. So , they should wake up.

But other religions should be aware of this war between religions.

Grow up, and cut it out.

In mideast , it is hard to wake up and solve problems. There is always a division and fight. There is always new plans.

Muslims should understand the difference between faith and bigotry . as any other religious group.

I would like more focus on the people behind the translations and moving it into the arab public eye. This movie has been around for a bit, why make it accessible now? Who got it to the people that needed to see it, in order to incite them? There had to be some people on the inside.

I will say this about Libya, I have friends who are missionaries who have been to Libya and the surrounding areas. Before you assume right-wing Christian conversionists at work, settle down. This particular groups main focus was sex trafficking and slavery. Anyway, before this crazy involvement in Libya by the U.S. the lady I know was preparing to travel to Libya. She did not make it because of the fighting and instability, but one thing she did say, was that she did not understand why we were getting involved. The people in her group that were already there, kept telling her that the people did not want the overthrow to happen, some loved Ghaddafi, some hated, but it seemed that most did not want him ousted. What to make of that? I don't know. How are we ever really going to find out. I just know that this all stinks, and we will most likely never know.

I don't know about the theories of Isreal creating this chaos either. Really, to what final end is that supposed to accomplish? I am getting a little tired of the blame game with the U.S. too. We are not the only players in the global field, here. For all we know Russia is involved, or China.

The film was stupid BUT it in no way justifies the moronic reaction by the extremists in the middle east. The film IS AN EXCUSE for them to vent their typical blind hatred of everything western. Lest you forget the extremists in Pakistan wish to beat to death a 12 year old pakistani christian girl with learning difficulties !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sheesh!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you, OneElectric, for making this thread. I wish I had found it sooner than I have but I will attempt to add to it in some way.

Your conclusions mirror my own. Yesterday, I had to walk away from all the poo slinging that was going on from one side against the other and had a couple of minutes of alone time to digest and reflect it hit me like a ton of bricks. I have to agree that I feel that this one particular 'ally' could very well be behind this and will take this line of thinking one step further. Consider if you will:

1. Romney has a history with Netanyahu that dates back to the mid to late 70s when both were hired on as consultants at Boston Consulting Group. Both were essentially fresh out of business school (Romney from Harvard and Netanyahu out of MIT).

2. The 2 have since then had a rather cozy relationship that is outlined in this April 2012 NY Times article. A Friendship dating to 1976, Resonates in 2012 Some notable quotes from the article:

That shared experience decades ago led to a warm friendship, little known to outsiders, that is now rich with political intrigue. Mr. Netanyahu, the prime minister of Israel, is making the case for military action against Iran as Mr. Romney, the likely Republican presidential nominee, is attacking the Obama administration for not supporting Mr. Netanyahu more robustly.

And:

In a telling exchange during a debate in December, Mr. Romney criticized Mr. Gingrich for making a disparaging remark about Palestinians, declaring: “Before I made a statement of that nature, I’d get on the phone to my friend Bibi Netanyahu and say: ‘Would it help if I say this? What would you like me to do?’ “

3. Enter Sheldon Adelson, who in another NY Times article ( NY Times: Romney Courts Campaign Donations in Israel) is described as a billionair casino owner (His group owns the Venetian in Las Vegas and is reported to be the 8th richest man in America):

But if Mr. Romney was the official guest of honor, speaking for nearly 20 minutes in a conference room at the King David Hotel here, the unofficial man of the hour was sitting just to Mr. Romney’s left: Sheldon Adelson, the billionaire casino magnate who has donated tens of millions of dollars to Republican causes.

4. Important to note that Adelson was a Gingrich supporter at first when Newt was heading the polls:

The Adelson family almost single-handedly bankrolled Winning Our Future, a super PAC backing Newt Gingrich during the primaries, giving the group more than $20 million.
NY Times Sheldon Adelson Reference Page And let's take a look at what Netanyahu's reaction to this was:

Mr. Netanyahu was startled in January by an article exploring why Sheldon Adelson, a billionaire casino executive and outspoken supporter of Israel, was devoting millions of dollars to back Mr. Gingrich. It described Mr. Netanyahu and Mr. Adelson as close friends.

Mr. Netanyahu’s office quickly relayed a message to a senior Romney adviser, Dan Senor: the prime minister had played no role in Mr. Adelson’s decision to bankroll a Romney rival.
Source

5. Adelson has now, naturally, thrown in his support (read money) into the Romney camp. Regarding Adelson's money contributions to "Republican interests" in this election year the source above says this:

making Mr. Adelson a uniquely powerful force in the annals of presidential politics
It also goes on to say that in a Forbes interview Adelson says

In an interview with Forbes magazine, Mr. Adelson suggested he would consider personally spending as much as $100 million on the 2012 elections.

Continued below:

Continued from previous post:

6. Adelson is also the publisher of an Israeli newpaper, founded because Adelson was upset over negative press for good buddy Netanyahu. His paper is now the most widely read paper in Israel.

The paper’s publisher, gambling billionaire Sheldon Adelson, is a close friend and political ally of Netanyahu, and according to reports, the papers editor, Amos Regev, was part of Netanyahu’s inner circle for some time.
Source

In 2006, Adelson was so upset that the three major Israeli newspapers seemed to have an anti-Netanyahu bent, that he started his own daily newspaper, called Israel Today or Israel Hayom. According to The Daily Beast's Aram Roston, the newspaper at first had so much trouble selling advertising that Adelson decided to give it away for free. "The formula worked: it's now the most widely distributed paper in Israel," Roston reported in December.
Source

Now, taking these things into consideration here is how I've drawn a similar conclusion as you have.
1. Netanyahu and Obama do not share a close relationship by any stretch of the imagination, well documented
2. Netanyahu and Romney share a long and cozy relationship that has gone on for decades
3. Netanyahu would benefit greatly with increased access to the White House to have perhaps a greater ability to influence US policy as it concerns the Middle East should Romney actually win
4. Netanyahu and Adelson are essentially "BFF's"
5. Adelson has the financial power and political will to shape American as well as Israeli politics.
6. Netanyahu, not wanting to publically show his staunch support and desire for Romney to become our next POTUS and perhaps secret desire to show Obama in a bad light, uses his willing pal Adelson to accomplish this in various ways. (by various ways I mean that I would not at all be surprised to find Adelson somewhere in the list of "undisclosed" financial backers for this idiotic 'movie' that seems to have whipped everyone into a frenzy)

My opinion is that this has nothing at all to do with any kind of insult to the Muslim religion, per say, but is a beautifully orchestrated tragic play in order to promote the interests of our supposed ally's will on our political stage.
