hi all,

I was wondering about the START II agreement. All I hear about is how the Russians have to dismantle a lot of their ICBM's and also replace some MIRV ICBM's with a Single warhead. I also hear about the US helping them dismantle the nukes and US inspectors checking up on the Russians to see if they are dismantling.

my question is this - what does america have to do?? IS the US dismantling a lot of their nukes and are Russian inspectors allowed to check to see if it is being done? are MIRV's being replaced with single warhead designs?

any thoughts you can give on this matter would be appreciated,

drfunk

All the U.S. Minuteman III's were De-Mirved in 1992 and the Peacekeeper ICBM's are due to stand down soon.

the Trident II D-5 will be taken down from 8 to 5 MIRV's under Start 2.

The Russians and the US operate under the "trust but Verify" principal. So for items like bombers, the wings are cut off and the aircraft are placed in the open so ssatelites can verify thier destruction. Missiles are placed on ground stands and fired with witnesses. The bad part is that the warheads by and large are kept.
