Updated Google Earth imagery at Nellis and the Janet terminal 6/21/2012

The title says it all. Nothing new yet at the TTR or Groom Lake. I think Cnet had the article last week about Google Earth updating their imagery.

At the Janet Terminal, there appear to be barricades along the southern edge of the facility.

A black line has appeared on the west side of the facility. It could be security related or just drip irrigation. You can't tell much from Google Earth.

The busted AWACS at Nellis looks like they are starting to strip it:

You may recall a wind storm ripped off the sun shades near the back of the base .This is clearly visible if you play with the time machine feature.

Definitely irrigation, if you follow it to the south you can see the water truck its hooked up to, and quite the leaky water truck it is. In fact it might not just be water, if you look at the parking spots that are right across from the dirt lot it appears the water truck has leaked enough to go into the lot and stain the asphalt.


The building that the AWACS is in front of, do you know what that building is for? In front of the hanger in every image taken there is equiptment and some kind of liquid washing south off of the ramp.

The building near the AWACS is the DOE Remote Sensing Lab.

Think "Broken Arrow." ;-) NEST assets are in that building.

There is some talk that this building was an early "Janet" terminal before they Groom the McCarran facility. I don't know if that is true or not. You can see why that idea has been suggested. The building has a private parking lot, kind of like the McCarran "airlift" facility.

The Remote Sensing Lab was flying their radiation sniffer chopper along the west coast not too long ago.

That link is the most recent, but they have been doing similar studies around Seattle earlier in the year.
