I've stopped watching a lot of T.V. since I got my computer, but I keep paying for it because it is easier for me to turn it on to get local news and weather before work, than it is to turn on the computer, click this site, click that site.
I find the computer a pain when I'm in a hurry (which is often) and plus, people think I'm crazy, but I don't like having to find individual shows on the internet, all on different sites (and often poor quality because I don't do pay-sites).
And I hate downloading things(waiting...waiting) and filling up all my computer space(extra space isn't free). hahaha. I know, I'm crazy.

T.V. is easy. Basic cable is cheap. And I have to watch Fox's Sunday nights.

I vote against T.V. ban.

I'm too much of a gamer and science fiction fan to entertain the notion of getting rid of the TV altogether. However, I agree with your sentiment. So much negative energy is produced by that horribly noisy, indoors contraption. I don't know just how much, because Star Trek and The Universe are all I've really been watching. I mostly just play my Wii now that those two shows are being phased out and leaving me with no need to watch television at all.

The Simpsons are worse, but I'd love to know actual history...instead of the history of things.

Believe it or not my area doesn't offer extended cable unless I get Dish....I'm supposed to get 100 channels, but instead my 'good ole boy' town struck up a deal with Charter Communications and they cut out channels 61-100....so the good channels fall within that category....its sucks having 3 Christian channels and only 1 History channel that shows no History.

I actually Banned The Box a year ago. I never watch TV anymore. Better news and info are available on the web. I love it when someone asks me if I have seen a TV show and I reply, I don't watch TV! People find it incredible that I don't care to know what 'smookie' is doing!
I turnedoff the cable tv channels about a month ago; don't miss it ;now if I could only stay off ATS I'd be bored into getting a life.

Yeah, let's ban TV. Lets ban TV cos some paranoid wackos are worried about it controlling their minds. You can watch whatever the hell you want. If you don't wanna watch those #ty reality tv programs, then don't. Not difficult.

So let the very thing which is destroying our society destroy it more. Why? How about STOP caring about just yourself and start caring about everyone's well being. T.V. is the very reason for people being as violent as they are and everything else. Oh I forgot people want to listen to what these scientists have to say, I guess this is why people believe in aliens so much right now. Not only because of the "evidence" they have from back around WW2 but because they keep having these T.V. shows like Ancient Aliens in which like to propose their theories about what happened a million years ago which they have facts to support it based on their OWN INTERPRETATION. What about all these people who are watching UFC because it's "cool" watching two men beating each other to a pulp. Really?? So I guess I have to be able to do 100 push-ups and lift a million pounds to be "cool" lol. Besides watching things like this only makes you more aggressive yourself. The subconscious mind is very powerful, don't under estimate it. I could go on and on. Oh and by the way I agree with getting rid of radios and computers too. Why not? At least then I wouldn't have to be on a website like this trying to help those who are blind see the light. Above that I wouldn't have no reason to be on the computer at all anymore.

Just cruising through the last few pages of replies...

nerbot

If TV was "banned", we would be inundated with more junk mail in our already overloaded post and emails. Adverts would appear far more in public spaces. Door to door sales, telephone and street canvasing would increase.

All this is happening anyway, and has been for decades. The competition for public attention is intense and relentless. Besides...

Dead right. In the advertising business, they're always looking for 'synergy' between media, so that a message you see on TV is reinforced in the press, in outdoor advertising, at point of sale, etc., etc. Remove the most important medium, TV, and the whole house of cards implodes.

scenes are cut into 3 second flashes now and if you don't believe me just watch any 30 second commercial and tell me if you don't count at least 12 cut scenes or more.

Actually, three seconds is very long for a commercial cut today. We were down to two seconds by the mid-'80s.

I think you do care about or believe in these conspiracies (as something to be feared)

You're right about that, mate. Stupidity and irrationality are powerful, frightening things.

yes i agree BAN the box and completely wipe and BAN porno/nudity on the internet.

Trying to hitch your wagon to my star, eh? You'll have to drop the rat first.

The real world is not happening on the television.

My point in a nutshell.

SaturnFX, please copy and note that it's not happening on the internet (or your game console) either.

What the hell makes you think you have a vote! Hello, uhmm Lucifer? Yes gentile, what? Will you please turn off your swirly magic box of mind control?

I propose banning it thus:

  1. Approach idiot box, preferably from behind.

  2. Locate power cord. This will be found to connect to a wall socket via a plug.

  3. Extract plug from socket.

Alternatively, you may find the following approach more satisfactory:

Is it just irony that nearly every person I know that mayed be classed as a 'conspiracy theorist', also happens to be the people I know that look independantly for their information, yet nearly every person I know that points the finger and laughs at 'conspiracy theorists' are the ones who ONLY get their information from the mainstream media and TV ????

I haven't watched TV (except as it does overflow into my world because of family members who watch) since the mid 1990's.

The first 10 years or so, I didn't watch TV at all...and now, when I am exposed to it or even watch it for the very rare event such as the RNC and DNC, it is not even an effort to have to resist its charms or its influence. It seems like another world...one I'm glad I don't routinely participate in.

And since my mom broke her hip in May, I've had a camera in her room so I can see if she's okay or needs help, whatever...I hear the news she watches...3 times a day like clockwork...twice the local news and the CBS evening news....I cannot believe what I hear. It literally is divorced, somehow, from reality. But for many, there is nothing at all to make them think it is not at all like it seems...and I'm not talking conspiracy theories or anything like that...just not reporting what is really going on...the stuff that is IMPORTANT to know.

I read some time ago that the Chinese government have made a move against the TV, since they think it is to much crap on it and the Chinese people loose their culture in the vast void of "stupidity shows".
Nowadays they mostly air news and cultural programs, compared to all the usual dumbing-down programs which can be seen in western countries.
Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I think it was something like only an hour a day allowed to be used for "entertainment".

Now this can be seen as governmental madness or actually a good thing.
I have to say that I do tend to agree with the latter.

I watch TV about one time (perhaps 2 hours before I feel sick and turn it off) every six months, and I am always surprised by all the horrible commercials and utterly s**t going on, and I feel "my god, what are people watching!".

Edit:
The TV could be an amazing tool, if it was not only about making money and generally programming people into buying things.
Science shows (used to love them back in the days when I was a kid and they were not interrupted by commercials) and education in general could be done through the TV. But it would have to be done without any ulterior motives and purely to provide people with good ol´ fashion healthy knowledge.

Good points.

Interactive channel where folks could skype each other in a multiple window format like the brady bunch intro
, just not 'like' the brady bunch. Innocent seeming program though there was alot of neuroprogramming going on there, conditioning of the sheopled; even the actors themselves had some serious deprogramming issues to overcome to adjust to some mode of reality.

Space channel with active satellite feeds of the earth in real time motion and active monitoring of the cosmos with strategically placed satellite probes on various planets, stars, galaxies, terra forming projects, bioengineering projects and some ufo, nto/et folk. Need to speed up the disclosure project first; main problem there is the disclosure of where those black project funds were going and what they were being used for as to why. It's coming out lil at a time though looking forward to full disclosure not far off.

The television could be used in a variety of positive ways; just takes the willpower and creativity.
Folks are spending far too much time on the television and computer these days and are not getting their excercise or enough sunlight every day. Unfortunately, that is just another conspiracy of the dumbing down/sickening variety. Wow did I just end on a bad note? Must be the October surprise I can't seem to get off my mind. Looking forward to returning to the mountainous jungle; now that's entertainment!

Scary is it not, I tell you any movie or tv show or commercial is cut so fast and dry there is no Rhyme or reason to what you are watching.

They can't touch us with their magic and that is a fact.

Well ATS radio is, but I can't say some of the propaganda on here is anywhere as bad as our t.v. and radios.

Every time I hear the word "ban" I think of people trying to control others, and that is bad. People need to just toss the things out by their own free will. Everything we see needs to change needs to happen in our hearts, there is no other way.

It's not about CHANGING, its about the well being of all HUMANITY, so if someone is getting stabbed right in front of me as I pull up to a gas station am I suppose to turn and look the other way? NO! lol You stop the madness and kayos or AT LEAST do your BEST to bring tranquility to the situation. Now understanding this people LIKE I and OTHERS who KNOW information like I do are suppose to not say nothing and do anything about people's minds being controlled?? I think we are wise one because if we don't stand up for those people when they are in DANGER and NEED help but don't realize it, who will stand up for us when we are in trouble as individuals? NO ONE because NO ONE CARES! GET IT! It's kind of like watching a special needs kid getting beat to his or her death without them realizing it.

I'm pretty sure you can't say something like that..

What kind of "special need" would one have to have in order to not notice being beaten to death? Braindead?

Otherwise...good post.
(Sorry for the off-topic)

Peace

Yeah, basically brain dead , like one of those special needs kids that get hit on the head and laugh with a big smile on their face continually as they are getting beat. I know some people are laughing at this but I really am not trying to be funny. ughh though, sometimes you have to make things so simple for people to understand.
