This morning I went to the markets to get my dad a bday present and chill out with the groovy locals.

There was a cool funky woman playing something I had not seen before. Its called a Gasong. It's a steel tongued drum made out of a recycled gas bottle. When I got home I had a look online to see how I could get one. The guy that makes them Col, is Aussie and does them by hand. Below is a link to a youtube vid of his - it's a pretty amazing little instrument - very peaceful and spiritual.

Anyway, I stumbled across this on the Tube - Again, totally unaware that this instrument existed - It's called a Hang Drum and it produces the most incredible sound. There are a few different vids, showing how they are played, but this one stood out for me. My spirit stirred while watching. So Beautiful ! I've got to get myself one of these too.

Hope you enjoy just as much as I did.

Does anyone here own one of these ? Where could you find them ?

Peace

* Ned

Impressive voice too. She is thousands of times more an artist than too many pricks glued on our tv screens by the msm.
I wish her the very best. S&F.

Amazing stuff. S&F
I have never seen one of these instruments myself and would love to own one.
They look like musical UFOs.

Here are a few more different hang drums. Hang drums

the spelling is actually "Haung Drum" not sure about this but I think they originate from NZ

beautiful instrument, a mate once told me he saw one for sale in a brissy music store (not sure which one but he said it was underground-ish) but this was at least 6 months ago, I don't think they pop up often

I've looked into these. When I last checked on them a few years ago they were something like 5,000 British Pounds which would be about 8,000 USD. I'm sure they are not that expensive now but I think the original ones that were hand-made in Russian or something like with various notes were up to that much.

Thanks Dylan,

That's going on to my busket list then.

How did this cool chick procure one then ?

(Imagination kicking in)

She comes from a wealthy family, she is studying classical music at one of the most prestigious schools in Europe. Her lecturer said they can't be musicians until they do some busking and mix it with the real peeps.

Man, those dudes must have been seriously tripping when they invented this thing.

That's why it looks like a UFO

It is amazing she is able to get so many different notes from a single, simple looking instrument. Lovely song and as another poster commented voice. It sounds faintly like the oil drums used in the Caribbean. I had never heard of or seen this instrument, thank you for sharing!

Wow, that was quite impressive and beautiful! Not at all what I was expecting. Doesn't sound anything like a drum. Thanks for bringing this to our attention, much appreciated!!

Though 'this' post may seem out of line, it seems reasonable as a drum within cadence.

Interesting perspective nonethe-less.

Ever been to a beach drumroll on a full moon?
Pure majic without the possession.
Anyhow, enjoy the analysis above.
Welkom to the Roadhouse.
hahahah.

Though a fine actor, Jack in the box leaped when he discovered whom his real father was.
As a box of chocolates. Mr. Kubrick became more aware of the value of the Conscience as the drumrolled on.
L8ter,

Love and light. *God Bless*

Have seen this guy a few times around Edinburgh, a beautiful instrument, he talked about the history of the hangdrum and travels around the world to play it.
