NASA Images of HUGE Solar Eruption

This is the largest eruption I've ever seen - and there's a picture of the earth in comparison.
Are we entering the solar maximum? Have you ever seen any flare that's bigger than this one?

The eruption glanced off our magnetosphere, but it wasn't headed directly towards Earth. How much longer until one of these strikes the earth directly?

The literal amount of material...ferocity of the event...and overall scene is breathtaking. On the scale I know the sun to be in terms of Earth being a teeny tiny little PIXEL's worth of size on an image like that, it's terrifying .....if the Sun weren't so far away.

Now let's just not get an expert on here who has a believable theory about how such a burst of material could reach all the way to Earth someday in a 1:trillion chance event. The far end of that stream looks to be Super-Extra-Crispy to say the very least. Nature is awesome to watch.

I posted this in another thread, but this could be related

Its raw power is quite beautiful.

Also, should we consider ourselves lucky that this eruption was not pointing towards earth?

Awesome photos kind of scary and makes me wonder what would happen if it was facing towards the Earth.
