to be blunt - a calender is useless - as any chicken little can scream " doomsday on day X " - and without actuall evidence to support the claim - which do you believe ?

as an example - there were multiple doomstay claims for the period 1999 ~ 2001 , none of which occured as " predicted "

but people panicked , did silly things - upto / including suicide / murder - while the world and the rest of humanity survived

there are even more " prophecies " for the 2012 / 2013 period - may have already failed - but that doesnt stop new CL`s spouting new dates or old ones " revising " thier failed dates

and just like the run up to 2000 people are getting scared - i predict that some will resort ot murder / suicide

yet there is no credible evidence for any of the claims - some have various statistical probabilities of varying merit

but there is nothing to prompt a rational person to make any sort of life changing descision

so - the ` doom callender ` becomes meaningless - a bunch of dates that pass without incident

why bother ?

Why not? In the end it's supposed to be a bit of light hearted fun rather than a serious, let's all get worked up about it and hide in our basements, kind of thing.

Like everything else in life, it would be what we make it.

Thanks for the nice, long reply though.

I have to confess that I always find posts like this some what troubling. Nothing needs "to be done" about the situation, other than what members ought to do as a matter of course. That is, keeping the quality of thier own content high, and refusing to be drawn down lesser paths by the tide of idiocy breaking over thier feet. If those of us who like to post gold and nothing else, are prepared to continue along the righteous path before us, then there need be no action taken further than that, because that action alone will more that suffice.

Besides which, an awful lot of people these days have some pretty skewed ideas as to what does, and does not warrant discussion. Even reasonable, but incredible suggestions are met with disdain at the moment, rather than well reasoned, and constructive criticism. There seems to be a great divide between those who are capable of discerning these things, and those who are not, and again, the only response to that is to keep an open mind, and a sound head on ones shoulders at the same time. Wasting time with reacting to what you believe to be claptrap says more about your own failings than it does about those you are complaining about !

That happy calendar won't go over well. They tried that years ago with those smiley faces. It'll be another ten years before happy calenders become popular again. ...DThey do seem to have a few more options today though.
