Not that I'm an Obama Fan, but I did listen to his speech. Nothing wowed me. I don't think he even did a good job working his base. Didn't seem to have a very clear "Vison" on how to get things going in the right direction.

I would say almost no undecided voters seen either speech. it is a infomercial (both RNC and DNC) to capture the energy of their base.

The debates is when (some) of the undecided voters may check in for a few minutes.

But those who did are usually the ones that motivate the ones that don't. And since last night was a train wreck to say the least, it's over. It's finally over.

Train wreck?
I watched the speech, it was pretty electrifying.

Here is the issue. People whom watched the speech with their mind made up clouded their perceptions. What you need to do is look at the opinions of those whom did watch whom were unsure either way and their perceptions, because thats all that matters.

Watch the polls. that actually does help.

I cannot weigh in on the speech because I am jaded..most on ATS cannot give an actual opinion that is valid in any universe due to being jaded..and you calling it a train wreck is clearly a unvalued opinion..I suspect Obama could have literally raised the dead and turned a senator into gold and you wouldn't be impressed...but, you, and I, are dismissed anyhow..we don't count because our mind was made up before we went into this.

So..we watch the -actual- independents (if any of them watched).

ROFL!!!!!!.........Well Obama just thanked Bidden for being the best Vice President he could ever wish for! The only reason for that is that Bidens stupidity actually helps to make Obama look somewhat smart!

Well I can say this much, I've seen a lot if idiots in my life but after watching the DNC tonight I can now say I've seen 20,000 idiots all in one place.

I watched with the mind of a realist, putting myself in the neutral place. If there was piazzas I would have felt it. Go to the 08 acceptance speech and you see it and feel it. Last night, the bottom fell out and hollow man took the stage. The faded man of who he used to be.

Yes, but your mind of a realist is not an actual mind of a realist..it is of a highly partisan and incorrect right winger.
Consider your last thread on how you assumed Clinton would toss Obama under the bus, when in reality what happened was a fistfull of smack to the republicans and ultimately may have given Obama the victory.
Even republican broadcasters said as much.

So, your glasses are colored red, even when you try to wipe em off.

Now, I will say 4 years ago, there was a different energy..it was the whole hope/change thing, but really it resonated with a desire to clash against Bush as much as possible. This time around it is an incumbant verses a hopeful for office and therefore it was less lets take over the white house and more lets build barricades style.

So, in reality, it comes down to debates. Debates is where this ultimate stalemate makes or breaks a person. Who can answer, who can dance the words, etc. The base enjoyed the speech and will vote (applies to both rnc and dnc and their respective nominees). now the actual target audience is up next.

Had to laugh here.
Well done.

Yes, My American butt would gladly go and die to defend the british...as far as israel...not so much. would help if I could mind you, I like the israeli people, but greatest ally? in what universe? Far as I can tell, Israel is a financial sinkhole just on positioning alone, and is constantly antagonizing their neighbors (goes both ways mind you, but outside of buying our weapons, how are they are allys).

Our greatest allys currently are the brits, period. Outside of my own country, that is the other nation I would shed blood for in its defense. Most everyday joes I talk to feel the same.

1) Freedom? how is enacting DHS pro-freedom right wing movements?
2) So suddenly the right wing is pro choice?

3) We all have a future. Defeatists however will blame government in a republic for their outcome in life..the rest of us will work for our future.

not sure if its "realists" your discussing, or "defeatist"...and I am not big on retoric. explain to me this freedom thing you believe you had 5 years ago that you don't have now.

Obamas speech = proof that he doesn't understand basic economics.

He said he wants to build up America's infrastructure .. roads, etc. (GREAT!)
He said he'd get the $$$ from what he'd save by ending the wars. (What the hell???)

The money for the wars came from borrowed money.
Ending the wars does't mean we have a surplus. It means we stop borrowing as much.
But he intends to keep borrowing and adding debt.

Does he even understand this basic economic fact?
If he does understand it .. then he spat out a campaign lie at the speech.
If he does not understand it .. then he has no business being in office.

I'm sure Obama understands it. It's just that Obama doesn't want the people to notice it. Right now, his goal is to sugarcoat his way to the white house.

The real issue is: why don't his supporters understand it?

As an Englishman living in the US that is the impression I get too. It was good to hear The President acknowledge it in his speech.

As for Israel, I've no problem with the people either.

I do however think that a lot of the Christian Right support Israel because they want the Temple rebuilt.

Obviously God needs the GOPs help to bring about the end times.

After ragging on the GOP convention for laying out no plan for the future this was their shot to capitalize and they blew it. I thought it was a good speech to motivate the base but lacked any substance to sway independents or get people out to the polls.

He could have really sealed the deal last night and he failed, so the game continues.

On to the debates next month!

Sometimes when you put too much sugar on something you make it taste worse. I don’t hear the MSM praising his speech today which is very telling.

He did a good job of skirting his record…I’ll give him that. Then again it was an open mike and he wasn’t being questioned.

I don’t really know any independents. I am curious to see the polls this week especially after the economic numbers released today. Any bump he got for the “electrifying speech” are sure to be wiped out by the job stats.

Even though I’m obviously biased and quick to ridicule his every word I am still capable of keeping an open mind and listening to his speech objectively. I was listening for a plan or blueprint of an Obama second term and all I got were platitudes and ridicule. He didn’t even make any promises for the next four years. It seems to me that people who were on the fence yesterday would still be on the fence today because they weren’t told anything last night. Meaningless chatter and vague references about how America should be isn’t my idea of a plan. Neither of the top candidates laid out a plan during their acceptance speech.
