Politics is such an intriguing topic. Politicians always paint such a pretty picture about the past (what they’ve done and/or what their qualifications are) and what they plan to do. I’m ready to hear what Obama has to say tonight. I’m sitting here wondering how he’ll spin the past 4 years and what his supposed plans are. Here are some excerpts from tonight's speech:

"I won't pretend the path I'm offering is quick or easy," I never have. You didn't elect me to tell you what you wanted to hear. You elected me to tell you the truth."

"The path we offer may be harder, but it leads to a better place. And I'm asking you to choose that future,"
link

I’m ready to debate the merits of his claims and promises. Did he say what you expected? Did he represent his record accurately? Do you believe what he promised?

Somehow I think this speech won’t live up to expectations.

My TV is ON!!

I'm waiting patiently.......

I didn't believe him in 2008 and I definitely don't believe him in 2012. I don't want to go "forward" on the same path we are on. Goodbye Obama.

I am watching though.

It's amazing, what some of the best speech writers can come up with, when given the time. And in an election year, no less.
Add to that, a silver-tongued lawyer, with a knack for oratory, and voi'la!

A speech for the ages...

I second that….

Teleprompter tonight…we’ll see how he delivers.

I just watched his 08 acceptance speech in front of the Greek pillars in the stadium filled with 80 + thousand people. As he was making his promises one thing stuck out. He said he would be like Bill Clinton who created 23 million new jobs. Ironically, today there are over 23 million people unemployed. But I watched it to compare to the flavor of tonight. Most of the democrat convention has been hate, so I expect his majesty to keep to the pattern. He will lay blame on Bush and so on and how hard he had it, blah blah blah. And he will of course try to reinvent himself as the messiah he sees himself to be, possibly a Roosevelt or a Kennedy, or even maybe morph into a Ronald Reagan, we'll have to wait to see it. But my guess is he'll transform into a lamb and pretend to be a Christian type preacher man bringing the good news of "shared prosperity" otherwise know as communism. And some class warfare etc. just for excitement to feed the hate in the audience.

I'm trying to be hopeful either way: if obama is re elected maybe the republicans will get mad enough to impeach him. If Romney wins we will know he stole the nomination so we will have a head start on dissecting the fraud, and maybe the democrats will realize their messiah is not as popular as four years ago.

Obamas speech will be good but I doubt he will attempt to set any records. Paul Ryan tried his best to.

Ryan was on a roll like when he later stated he ran a 3 hour marathon. Oh yeah he said he forgot his time from the one marathon he did run.

Ya…of course he said that. Bill was the last Democrat who dazzled the masses.

Ironically, today there are over 23 million people unemployed.

That will be tough to spin…..not for discerning viewers though.

I expect the same.

I want to hear how everyone received his words and see if we can pull an honest debate out of it here on ATS.

One thing is certain….there will be plenty of material for everyone to use!

Can you explain what "OFFICIAL" is?
Does that mean you are the sanctioned ATS "OFFICIAL" provider of news that hasn't happened yet?

Good idea!
I think I will now start the "Official - Something is Going to Happen at Some Point!" thread.
That way I can beat all the real posters and get my stars and flags first.

Never mind...

Ya….I’m the first to create such a thread about a topic.

Thanks for the S&F!

He didn't make the case before he became President. Hindsight is 20/20. Now, what's he going to sell us on?

No, you are just one in a long line of complete a-holes that want to be first.
Poor guy. I really doubt your sensationally titled thread will never make it to the top of the list.

Keep trying!

I can tell you how his speech will go. It will be a whole lot of "me" and "I" followed up with a bunch of "I did this" and "I made this happen for you" along with some inferences of how he and government know what's best for us. He'll also throw in the blaming Bush and Republican Congress for all of his failures and tell us how if he has just 4 more years he will save us all from ourselves.

The main theme of his speech will be how he's made progress but everything was so messed up when he came into office that it doesn't seem like he's done as much as he actually has and how if he has just 4 more years he can complete his goal of "Fundamentally transforming America".....into a third-world, socialist, dictatorial nation.

BTW: Love the new avatar Seabag!

What I will be looking for is connect-ability. If he cannot make the crowd want to believe him then he's done. He has to be convincing, but I will tell you that no one I know not even my democrat friends is buying the " It was so much worse than I thought and it was all Bush's fault " thing, not a single person I know accepts that excuse and frankly some have barked that they are so tired of hearing it. Tonight might give him another week or so of life but I see a slow but gradual decline to election day. It will be a 60/40 vote with Romney taking the 60%. But who knows, we still have to wait and see, maybe he'll blow the doors off tonight.

Well he's made plenty of broken promises….

I want to see if he touches on those points (directly or indirectly) and what he promises for the next four years….

I’m anxious!

Yup...Obama's full of exaggerations. First it was HOPE and CHANGE. And now it's down to BLAME.

1st Term) Obama exaggerated how he will FIX EVERYTHING on day one.

Four Years Later:

2nd Term) Obama exaggerates how bad things were when he came into office.

I agree….I have a close buddy who won’t stop telling me how Obama has the likeability/believability factor. That REALLY IS the most important part. We all know the media will tell us how great and on-point his speech was regardless.

He may blow the doors off and we still have the debates in October. The main point of this thread is to debate the merits of his claims…..I’m looking forward to new material!
