I'm posting this to point out the comments on the The Baltimore Sun Forum

This is the problem we have today- We are growing dumber day by day.

Why do we even need a bill to prohibit the extrajudicial killing of United States citizens by the federal government? And why does the Federal Government think that it's okay to kill US citizens without due process? The answer to both questions is... because we became a nation of morons.

Disturbing !

The answer would be far more complex than that. In the past wars were declared, uniforms put on and anyone on the other side killed no matter where they came from. An American turning his coat in the revolotion, shot or hung, and American fighting for the Germans in a world war shot and killed like anyone esle in combat etc. etc.

Also in the past we did not have the web, instant information, and a 24 hour news cycle so if and American was spying for the other side and had left the country to turn over vital information the could have an accident and nobody would be the wiser. Now things are more complex, people know whats going on in the world, wars are no longer declared and the enemy often does not wear a uniform. How all this should be dealt with is a complex and full of legal and moral debates. What are the right answers?

If an American is in a terrorist camp preparing to assist in an attack that will take American lives is it ok to act and take him and the camp out with a TLAM or drone strike? Or do you have to wait until the act is commited and then hope to capture and put him on trial? Or do you put boots on the ground and risk lives by raiding the camp hoping you capture him and put him on trial? Declaring everyone is a moron fails to solve the problem.

Well its a genius title. It should have been "Save the Children from United States Murderers" - SCUM.

If an Amercan is found giving aid or abetting the enemy we already have laws to execute traitors. However if the FedGov is scared because we are so well armed and they want to take over the president has that power now.

Thus bringing gulag style incarceration in vogue in the US. As history shows us it usually starts with the old "crazy" ploy so they can pick you up,then you and your views go away so the overseers have the sheep managed nicely.
none of that "free thinking" getting in the way.

If we allow this to continue where does it stop? If a murderer is hiding in a building do we send a drone and tak him out before trying to arrest him and putting him through the the system? If somebody accuse you of planning to commit a crime would it be okay to take your right as an American citizen away and kill you?

In other words i agree with you that we have enemies without uniforms, and we should look for them anywhere they might be, but if the accused combatant hapens to be an American citizen he has the right to due process. If we have the evidence ( which I haven't seen by the way) that he was in fact planning to kill people convicting him shouldn't be a problem. I know that the system is far from perfect and killers sometimes get away but we can't just start killing people, we must make sure that innocent until proven guilty applies to evryone because if it doesn't we are no better than Iran.
Have you seen any evidence this Alwaki guy was a terorist? Did anybody try to make sure that the evidence are real?

This is what America is about remember? If everything changed so much that it's necessary to assassinate criminals why dont we do it with gang members or rapists?

It all began with the FED, and the department of education. These two right here are the main culprits.

The FED has been the number one reason for the power grabs, as the.gov has printed enough behind the peoples backs to build an indestructable war machine, that can't wait to crush all those that would dare to question their "right" to rule us. The only weak link is the people, involved, they haven't yet found a way to force unquestioning loyaly on them. Which is why they are switching to automated technlogies, such as drones, and now robotic soldiers.

The department of education has consistantly, been found to be inept at anything save wasting money, and not teaching children important and valuable critical thinking skills. Instead they only teach children how to pass standardised tests, not the knowledge.

And also people don't care about anything unless it has something to do with them personally,

As pastor Martin Niemöller said about the Nazis...

First they came for the communists, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist. Then they came for the socialists, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a socialist. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for me, and there was no one left to speak for me.

or

First they came for the socialists, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a socialist. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for me, and there was no one left to speak for me.

it is called due process, this has been established for hundreds or thousands of years depending on which coulture you wanted to quote.

Mass murderers just want to kill people, they dont fly over with a drone and shoot a missile into walmart becaue they know he is in there, they arrest him and put him on trial for his crimes.

Yes some states do execute people for murder, but not one does it for plotting murder as there hasnt been a capital offense, it is conspiracy to commit murder, at which point they get a trial and then sent to prison.

Even if they do murder they get a trial, and only after a jury of their peers finds them guilty, and they get their appeals, do they carry out the sentence. not before all of that, without any evidence presented.

Or do they still do the old school british system i learned about in school of there?
