Hello good members of AboveTopSecret.com,

I am posting here today in response to the lengthy, and somewhat damaging 'war' between the Australian members of ATS and the American members of ATS. These 'wars' picked up dramatically during my thread about North Korea aiming Missiles at Australia. The thread itself got overran with off-topic and heated discussions coming left right and centre. It didn't take long for the 'war' on my thread to spill out into the endless realm that is Above Top Secret.

These 'wars' were generally a result of members on both sides posting ignorant and hate provoking comments. The posts themselves even spawned their own threads, some Anti-American, and others being Anti-Australian. In recent months, this surge has led to many high profile and controversial members being banned, and as such i feel it is time to sort this out once and for all.

As i have also been involved in this debacle, i would like to apologise to those i offended. Now...lets get started shall we:

This thread is going to address the problems on both sides and attempt to rectify this 'war.' I aim to get a mutual agreement on both sides, as to not cause any more tension between both sides. I will do this by proposing a general guideline for both sides to follow.

Note that this is not an attempt to limit your freedom of speech on ATS, but i feel that we need to follow an unofficial guideline for our own sake.

The following is what i, daaskapital propose to both, the Australians and the Americans of ATS:

1: Please refrain from posting ignorant or hate provoking comments. I ask for both sides to Deny Ignorance. Research before posting.

2: If one encounters a comment in which they feel is purposely trying to begin a 'war,' please report it. No one wants to read endless dribble about many different and sometimes, insulting topics.

3: Please refrain from targeting fragile matters regarding both countries (a common example is WW2...)

4: Please refrain from conducting 'commando raids' on specific threads, with the sole purpose of causing a stir.

5: Please refrain from generalising members of both countries. Please do not support incorrect stereotypes.

6: Do not charge head first and act abruptly to supposed attacks on your personal attitudes, values or beliefs. Doing so risks creating a 'war.'

7: This goes hand in hand with the prior point. Think before you say. Maybe the poster didn't mean to come across a specific way. Maybe you are taking a topic the wrong way.

8. Negotiate topics peacefully. Doing so will guarantee a member not getting in trouble with moderators. Act politely. Treat those, as you yourself would like to be treated.

9: i know that there will undoubtedly be trolls who will ignore these guidelines. If you encounter one, please report them and move on.

These are basic guidelines that i would like to see followed. Yes, these are pretty much the T&C's (with some being spin off's), but it has to be re-drilled into our heads

Personally, i am sick of reading these endless attacks and would like to see it stop completely.

Thank you for your time, and thank you for reading.

Your comments are about solving most of the problems on ATS.

I say that members should stand the truth by the facts that they demonstrate.

Or they better avoid discussion.

Removing bigotry and selfishness

Adding some modesty and awareness

That can be the recipe to solve the problems generally

Thank you for your thread

Yes, following the guidelines set out by both, you, and i can lead to reduced tensions in ATS overall. If people thought before they acted, we could really see some positive changes in the more disputed forums such as religion and politics. I think respect for each other is what is lacking on ATS.

Thank you for your comment

Haha, yeah. Nothing wrong with the American/Australian relation debates we all have on the many threads around ATS, but it all degenerates into crap fights
It has resulted in quite a few members...dissapearing.

I'm hoping we can all stop it

As an American, I can honestly say that I love our Australian brothers and sisters. I used to work nights and have had many a great chat with them in the chat room and in threads.

While I am completely terrified of the continent of Australia as every single bit of flora and fauna there is capable of causing a human horrible death. I have a deep respect for the people. After all, I imagine they have a life or death struggle with the land they call home every day.

I really think the Anti-American threads have faded in the last few months. Sure, we had a few people hiddenly baiting the American majority here for a while disguised as "we don't hate you we just hate your government," as a way to get an S&F gorefest, but right now I tend to think the trend has subsided, and people are beginning to see people as just that, regardless of which flag they hang over their walls.

The world is in big trouble, whether it be Obamacare or the Carbon Tax, and unless people start to drop their borders and act as a whole against them, the governments and corporations will see the world down the toilet long before we ever notice.
