Nancy P? Why does the free market need to bend its knee to Nancy's wallet? Why is it her responsibility to front the bill for the system? This is how things work. This would happen in ANY CITY with ANY major convention, political or not. This is the Hotel Industry.

Mitt Romney could send every american a few hundred dollars of his own money and still have PLENTY to live off of.. But, why would he ever be obligated to?

Please please please think about what you are saying.

It doesn't have to bend. Although she did make money off insider trading. Oh those terrible 1% ers. One thing is for certain, she would never be staying at that hotel. It would just be too degrading for her royal highness.

The former House Speaker is enjoying her holiday at a posh Hawaiian resort in a suite that costs $10,000 a night, while most vacationing Americans don’t come close to spending that in a year.

www.newsmax.com...

You fail to understand the more poignant irony of a member of DSA being both very wealthy and very not giving away all her wealth to the downtrodden.
Same goes for Warren Buffett who probably has all his money in tax shelters.

And I will tell you something else: Obama's policies are hurting the middle class far more than the wealthy, and I am just plain disgusted that the DNC speakers are making it out like he is an advocate for the middle class. It makes me want to vomit.

this wasnt her private property, she was staying in a MOTEL, a place for TEMPORARY lodging, usually not long term
if this was an apartment building, i can see where she could have a legit complaint, but unfortunately, she really doesnt.
Yes the motel owner is pretty scummy for what he did. but he had EVERY RIGHT TO DO SO

Nice try, this has nothing to do with the Democrats at all. This is about the greed of the people who own these hotels who jack up their rates because they know the visitors there for the convention will pay pretty much anything.
Can you say that with 100% accuracy?

We all know the politicians are as crooked as hell! Do you think everyone involved with the DNC are walking saints?

You know….”A fellow democrat helping out a fellow democrat with a place to stay?

Sad how you relate the responsibility of Humanity to one political party. As apposed to an american point of view.

It should be from one American to another, regardless of party.

Great example of how selfish minded the republican mind is. Placing responsibility on one group, with accountability, and ignoring their own disregard for a solution.

I do understand people are out to make a buck, but there should be a line drawn when it comes to people getting thrown out on the streets. I am FOR private property rights.

You're really not, you want to regulate if a private hotel can throw out their tenants or not.

Your tangent is so off base and purposely misleading that I cant fathom a response that could stimulate any sort of real argument out of you.

Nancy Pelosi is not responsible for the free market system. She is not obligated, or expected to financially support families who cant afford their rent. Not any more than any other Dem or GOP person.

I said could have. The owners can do whatever they want, and they did.

There's no law anywhere dictating they had to raise the rate up on her. It's called being decent to your fellow human being but greed trumps that almost every time.

Makes me realize how wonderful it is to be an independent.

Then act like it.

99% of your threads have a conservative bias, you identify more with republicans than democrats. This thread shows it. You're attempting to blame the actions of a private hotel on the democratic party.
If you look at many of my threads or posts, you will see I have NO love for the GOP. I voice more nowadays towards those who are currently running this administration, and the rest running our country into the ground. I would do the same if the GOP were running things.

I think I even created a thread about my discontent towards ALL the candidates.

You JUST don't get it do you ? Pelosi is a member of the DSA---that is Democratic SOCIALISTS of America and she has no business pretending to advocate for the proletariat worker bee middle class. That is why I focused on her. She is the 1% and yet she proudly commended the Occupy movement for their activities in opposing Capitalism. If you fail to perceive the hypocrisy, there is nothing more I can say.

The Democrat Party has been hawking the wares of socialism for a while now, and socialism cannot spur real growth. That is a sad fact, and many in the Democrat Party are wealthy from the spoils of Capitalism themelves, and thus they are pushing a completely unsustainable system and yet are unaffected by that which they are promoting.

Oh yes, I also heard mayor Castro advocating for Universal pre-k, which was exactly what Hillary was hawking in her campaign ad in 08. This is another plank in the socialist agenda. You see there is just ever enough socialism to go around. The minute they get one plank in place, they start with another one. It never ends.
I love the camel in the tent story because that is what Fabian Socialism is.

I'd like to see Republicans come bash this. It's a trap. After all, Businesses should be able to make profits however they choose. Right?

THIS is what's wrong with deregulated, free, "open markets". This right here.

I'm actually irked that nobody in the Obama camp seems savvy enough to see opportunity when it presents itself. If I were a campaign staffer, I'd have rented an entire "pay by the week" place, a few towns away, put these folks in it, and had 100 camera crews there to see my candidate do it.

Actually, its sad. They should do it, regardless of the campaign implications, and not just once. There is a reason why people are so disgusted with Politics.

What I don't get is that she was paying 200 dollars a week to live there, that's 800 dollars a month, why is she even living in a hotel. If she can pay 800 dollars a month for a hotel then she could afford to rent an apartment or a house. It may be a crappy thing that the hotel is doing but they do have the right to do it. There are no laws against greed. It just shows how horrible some people can be.

$200 a week??? She should have moved long ago. That's $800 a month for a single room lodging, we rent houses for less than that where I live. She could have gotten an apartment with a lease for under that amount. If she was truly "homeless" (not saying she wasn't) she could have gotten an FHA approved loan for her own place or on Section 8 housing for a fraction of that $800 she was paying.

This story is just a poor attempt at demonizing the DNC convention. The hotel/motel owners obviously took this action on their own, and if anything, it shows the free market at work - price gouging when a demand goes up. Isn't this what the Ayn Rand worshiping Tea Party celebrates?

PS: Wanna bet the same thing happened in Tampa? Or at every city hosting a Super Bowl? Or in London this past summer for the Olympic games?

Credit.

I have a relative who cannot find an apartment or house for lease due to derogatory credit, the result of a divorce and some legal trouble he got into due to alcohol/drug use post divorce.

He has to live in a pay by the week because it's the only place that will allow him to live there.

I was going to say bad credit, but most hotels you need a card to stay in. You are right, actually. WHY is she in a Hotel? There isn't ANY housing available, for that kind of scratch?

Something is a miss.

Because getting into a house requires first, last, and deposit. Motel owners know this so they can charge 800/month for a tiny room. Since they are paying that much, they will most likely never be able to save up the money to actually move out.

I've known more than a few families stuck in that cycle. It's exploitative and sad but... thus is predatory capitalism.

I wonder what the waiting list is, for something like that. Our economy is so bad, I would think there is a long waiting list, for government housing.
