Prime Minister Julia Gillard is being called on to 'seriously reconsider' speaking at an Australian Christian Lobby conference after its chief described being gay as more hazardous than smoking.

The Managing Director of the Australian Christian Lobby Jim Wallace was speaking at a debate on marriage equality with Greens leader Christine Milne when he made the comments.

Ok?? Um, Just for the record I'm not gay or a christian or religious for that matter.....at all, but I happened to come across this story on Yahoo.

It really infuriates me that someone in the christian community would say something like this?

Is it just me or is he saying that the choice of whether "to smoke or not to smoke" is one that gay people can choose between?

I think this guy is a moron and really sums up the mental capacity of the christian movement.

This guy is a leader?

I'm over the moon that they referred to the ACL as extremists.

That group consists of nothing but racist, homophobic, intolerant, ignorant morons.

I don't believe they represent most Christians or Christianity.

I thought his comments were quite cutting.

He has the right to an opinion.

To call him an extremist is nonsense.

Much of the world agree with him.

I dont agree with him but I like that he is speaking his mind and I think he makes decent points.

Why is everybody so afraid to discuss certain topics?

It's sure getting to where no one better say one word, not one, about the LGBT community that isn't 100% accepting, approving and in full agreement with everything they present.

Perhaps this man has said other things, at other times...and I'd be interested in seeing more for context if that is true...but this IS taking out of context and so obscenely as to be remarkable.

He's very specifically referring to the numbers the LGBT community produces THEMSELVES, for the purposes of craving out more health money from the budget or however that process works down there for funding their causes. I don't see where he breaks away to refer to anything else or could be seen to have by accident.

By how I'm reading it, it could be paraphrased something like 'If they want to ask for money like they're dying out and it's end of world requirements....let 'em be reminded of it'. In fact, just about everyone skews their budget figures and blows them up to get all they can...Heck, Government is Government in some ways.... He may suffer for having noted how overblown he thinks they make their stats though. Ouch!

Sounds like a whole lot more in local politics and issues than is being talked about or explained in the statements. Denied their biological parent? Now that sounds interesting, if likely more for another thread I'd guess. It's one thing, the issue of adopting kids out to gay couples...but the word biological seems to say this isn't about that and something more meaningful to the parents?

Anyway... The original quoted statement does seem to have been directly referencing the numbers produced by the same people who are now so offended by the reference made about them. Hmm... Oh well. We live in a world now where whole groups and organizations are defined by millions in single statements or a few news stories about individuals. That alone is interesting to see how this is an example... Scratch that speech to Christians.

Pretty sure you didn't read the post properly. Phelps is a lesbian. It was the other guy who likened the children of gay people to the next stolen generation and that the gay lobby is reminiscent of nazi germany.

Now I have no idea what you are getting on about when Phelps says "English Speaking Democracy" when referring to Australian being the only one to not recognise same sex marriage. How is that disgusting apart from showing how backwards gillard is?

But none of that is the point, as I replied to YOU specifically who replied to Aaron2209 specifically about something Aaron2209 said directly in reply to Wrabbit2000 and had nothing to do with the video, and was in reply to the goebbels statement.
