Rich people will always think they know what's best for the rest, it is scary what money can do to one's ego... People whom get rich over night think they have became smart over night as well. They will not admit it, but all of their actions will reflect it.

The more the ego, the lesser the knowledge.

She couldn't move an inch on $2.

She is one of the people society will learn to hate. Her having inherit 1.5 billion dollars makes her feel like she is better than everyone else. She then believes that she has no moral obligation to see others and be concerned about their welfare. This is a woman who has never worked a real hard day's worth of work in her life. And she feels like she can judge those who are not wealthy by calling them lazy drunks.

The world could do with less of her. This just disgusts me.

Someone needs to put this fat waste of space on a diet.

In all seriousness, I know this woman sounds very insensitive and naive in the ways of the world. To be fair, she may have been quoted out of context or she may not have the ability to accurately articulate her views.

Perhaps her legitimate view is this, which we should all ponder.

Many Australian workers (and for that matter workers from many developed nations) may be putting unreasonable demands on management. For example, unions may be asking management to follow unreasonable rules. In light of the fact that workers in undeveloped areas of the world demand little or nothing from management, Australian workers (and for that matter workers from many developed nations) may need to re-examine the demands they put on their managers. If workers do not re-examine their demands, they may eventually lose to competition in undeveloped nations.

This is not to say that workers should be treated like slaves or paid extremely low wages, but rather they should be more competitive. There is a lot of fat in the workplace (please hold the fat jokes regarding this woman) that needs to be trimmed.

As an exporter, she expects to be able to sell her commodity. China buys the commodity to grow or export their own goods. All of this requires purchasers. What does she think Africans purchase with $2 a day? Cars? Houses? Cell phones? Without customers that actually have enough money to buy goods, goods don't sell. These Africans live hand to mouth, barely. Heck, why not just enslave them instead of paying them money? Oh, right, then she would have to feed them. This woman has no grasp of economics. Just what the world needs..... rich idiots! Like there aren't enough of them already!

World's richest woman calls for Australian workers to be paid $2 a day to compete with companies hiring cheap African staff

• Mining boss Gina Rinehart says Australian labour is becoming too costly
• Comments received criticism by PM Julia Gillard who insists cheap labour is 'not the Australian way'

The richest woman in the world warned her fellow countrymen they are becoming too expensive to employ.

‘The evidence is unarguable, Australia is indeed becoming too expensive and too uncompetitive to do export-oriented business,’ she said.

‘Furthermore, Africans want to work, and its workers are willing to work for less than $2 per day. Such statistics make me worry for this country's future.’

Daily Mail

Will Gina Rinehart be the first to volunteer to work for $2 a week or is $2 a day only for the 'ordinary' people?

It must be tough inheriting a $1.5bn empire from your father. It's a pity she sees others in society as a commodity who should work for peanuts to make her money.

That's OK. From the looks of her I'm guessing the bacon grease coursing through her veins
will congeal any day now and stop her heart.

Just wow I had to show this to some other people I know real quick before coming over here to write on the topic. I'm really hoping no one is taking her seriously. I mean I know sometimes money talks but this time I sure hope that the talk will be falling on deaf ears.

and how do we become more competitive when the competition works for $2 a day? You really think there is that much fat that can be trimmed other than wages?

Australian workers cannot compete on price, but they can compete on productivity and having valuable skills. The African workers who make $2 a day are for the most part illiterate and cannot work sophisticated machinery. The Australian worker, on the other hand, is literate and should learn how to use the most advanced tools of his trade. A worker that can produce let us say $50 an hour worth of productivity at a wage of $30 an hour is more valuable to his boss than some grunt with a shovel that makes $2 a day.

Second, some pro-labor policies in the workplace of industrialized nations create fat. For example, unions make it difficult to fire or demote under-productive workers, especially if they have seniority. Many well-intentioned rules like workplace safety rules, do little to promote their intended goals yet cost employers a lot of money.

I agree with the other part you wrote but this part, why is it everyone keeps assuming she was taken out of context AGAIN.

Last week she made statements that Poor people should Work harder and stop being lazy and drinking all the time. That grinded my gears, I'm not well off but I get by (week to week) I DO NOT DRINK ALCOHOL AT ALL. See what she did is generalise/stereotype 'poor' people. For that you are seeing in here a lot of people are fighting fire with fire and Stereotyping FAT people, FAT RICH PEOPLE and STUPID FAT RICH PEOPLE.

Not shouting at you of course, like I said I understand what she maybe trying to say but over the last few weeks I've heard enough of what she has to say.

I wonder if she would be willing to pop on down to the next MUA Union stoppie and articulate her message to the likes of this lad............

and I can just imagine these blokes would be stoked at those comments...........$#!T is gonna HTF on this.....

I wouldn't be surprised if the Coffin Cheaters put a mark on her given their affiliations with many Aussie Unions.........she won't see out the rest of the year if she keeps this crap up.

Let the rulers and kings and the rich continue to demonstrate their true intentions and vile characters for everyone to see, and eventually the masses will eventually rally and cheer, secretly if need be, black mask laden assassins, and bandana men wailing on rides as the modern secret super heroes, as they all, march these demons, living, into the gates of hell to meet their master.

So all of those in labour intensive roles or "grunts" as you put it will be forced to live on $2 a day? Or are there enough white collar jobs around that every single Australian can just up skill and magically walk into a decent paying job?

A good wordsmith can make any proposal sound legitimate

if our government wasn't an obvious puppet to foreign interests i would be all for nationalisation of the mines

why should the contents of this country .. that belongs to us, and our children, and their children, be dug up and sold, to line the pockets of a few people at the top, with no regard for the future?

we used to have state owned electricity, whose only mandate was to supply electricity..

now we have privately owned electricity whose only mandate is to provide profit for share holders...

its the same in EVERY industry, water, power, gas, mining,

raping our country and making the top levels better off.
and the govt flails around making distracting hand movements so we don't notice we are all struggling.

See, this is something I find that people don't think about: if she doesn't make money, neither does her employees. So, she could just shut down her businesses tomorrow--all of them! She doesn't need them. Some of her upper tier could survive without having to work ever again, so they could just ignore the loss of jobs. Frankly, killing a "wealthy pig" results in the same answer. No job loss, even the crappy "extortionist" ones we have now, will fix a damn thing. You need infrastructure to replace it, and few if any of the armchair quarterbacks out there on the internet are set up to:
1. Survive a lack of infrastructure.
2. Survive a loss of a job for more than a month.
3. Have the skills to control their spending. Sorry, if you don't have the money to get out of the financial bind an evil job has over you, and you still have cable, don't eat cheaply or minimally, don't grow your own food, conserves energy expenditure, avoid debt, ect. (Yes, some of this is unavoidable, but come on, almost everyone I know who complains about money has some sort of indulgence that could save them money--sometimes BIG money, by not indulging in it. You are selling your future for today!)
4. Have the capacity to provide better jobs for others, themselves. Sorry, if you can't employ 1 person, you're just as much a problem.

And I state this while fully well knowing I'm failing this, right now. So this is not about pointing fingers at anyone.

So, yeah, let's go after the fatcat's Government bonds of fiat money that can crumble overnight. We'll still have nothing.
