Magnitude 7.6 - COSTA RICA

(CNN) -- An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.9 struck off the coast of Costa Rica Wednesday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
The quake was recorded on the Costa Rican Pacific coast, about 95 miles west of the capital, San Jose, and ran more than 28 miles deep.
The epicenter was just five miles away from the city of Samara.
A tsunami watch was in effect for much of the Caribbean, including along the coastlines of Brazil, Mexico, most countries in Central America and many islands.

There is now an ongoing 7.6 mag Earthquake in Costa Rica!

CNN link included that says it's an 7.9 instead.. Tsunami warnings are going wild down there.. I hope nothing happens to the people down there at least. Goodspeed Costa Rica!

Anyone thats maybe around the area could give us any information?

WOW, I was just talking to a guy I work with, who has family that live in Costa Rica, hes calling his family right now, will update, in a bit with first hand accounts of the EarthQuake, hope all is OK

I hadn't realized a quake in that location could produce tsunamis on the other side in the Caribbean.

There's a youtube vid of the quake.



I saw one twitter post saying they were in alajuela. They felt about 30 seconds of shaking. But not that bad.

I have family in costa rica. Hopefully they get on fb and say something.

This earthquake happened on land, good thing area where it hit seems to be sparsely populated mountainous region. There is not any towns nearby, pretty much only national parks and roads. Tsunami shouldn't be so bad, depth of this quake was at 40 km, that could be way too deep for tsunami.

According to CNN it's right off the coast of Costa Rica. That's why Tsunami warnings have been roaming the area I guess..?
