ounds like what they call a "goodnews bee" or yellowjacket Hover Fly..

they are quite large and look like a yellow jacket somewhat but are different. they have them here in VA.

From what I have researched the afacanized 'killer' bees have been tamed and domestic 'killer' beehives are used for honey production in the eqatorial apiaries.
