They were called before hand because they were charging money for the event:

"We sold out," said Laura Bledsoe. "There was huge interest for people who wanted to connect back with the land and have a great meal. That's how it started."

That was until Mary Oakes with the Southern Nevada Health District showed up to issue a temporary permit for the public event.

"Selling out" to an open invitation event sounds quite public.

www.8newsnow.com...

Perhaps if they didn't apply for the permit they could have maintained it was private but they should have looked at the differences beforehand...

That woman needs to be discharged and lose her acquired benefits for crossing the line. All she could have done is given them a citation and called the police if there was a violation. This incident and the publicity it created was a positive influence on society though. The Health department of the USA lost much credibility from this incident. The more they argue this case the more people will become aware of the problems in the health department. The health department should fire this woman and let things settle down. Reimburse the people for their time and product and say they are sorry. I can't stand the rules they are making. People can't have a potluck for a wedding reception or funeral in some places anymore, they need store bought food and catering. I would trust eating an experienced old persons food more than the toxic food in the stores. The chemistry they are using to preserve the food is many times worse than the possibility of getting food poisoning . The health department employees needs reprogramming, they works for the people, not rein over the people. I believe the health department Does a necessary job but actions like this are not acceptable and they should not side with the misjudgement of this woman.

This is unnerving to say the least!

There are things you can do....and I recall reading on ATS about a lawsuit that was brought on against Monsanto but of course they were shut down. Another example of corporatocracy at its best.

ATS thread & artcle regarding 300k farmers take on Monsanto and lost

Organic Seed Growers and Trade Association summation about the lawsuit

Afterwards California worked to get the proposition onto their ballots to have their foods labeled that they are GMO - which if my recollection is correct - they won. (Looking for confirmation) All the more reason for Monsanto to resort to thug tactics with the gov't doing their dirty work. Again - the gov't officials aren't there for us - they "know" where the bread is buttered (and most eat the gmo kind I am sure....one can hope at least.)

Link about labeling - Which this site has tons of info about the Organic / Mom and Pop farmers
California proposition of GMO labeling

And what is a movement against "the MAN" without Occupy.....
Occupy Monsanto 9/17/12
Organic Consumers Association and Millions Against Monsanto are working with the Occupy Monsanto network to organize protests and direct action at Monsanto facilities during the September 17th Global Week of Action Against Monsanto.

Current lawsuit against Monsanto

Click below to join an existing Occupy Monsanto Genetic Crimes Unit.
occupy-monsanto.com...

Occupy Monsanto FACEBOOK....I know you hate FB....just another avenue to beat GOLIATH

Occupy not your style? How about organizing a Millions Against Monsanto rally or event? - Their words - pls go to site for more details....
Organic Consumers Org

All great movements have started from tinytowns USA to deliver our message to these monsters.....get in touch with your local reps.
Keep tabs on your reps

....now I will digress....I guess I could start another thread on this subject. It is a major thorn in my side!!!

sorry for any typos....need to feed my family....ORGANIC FOOD!

Well yeah I said that in my OP they were ignorant and trusted the governments word that they needed a permit and applied for one to avoid any hassle that gave the health department what they needed to send a thug out to destroy their food. Still the inspector did not cite them for anything because she knew she had not authority to do so!

Ever had a pot luck where people bring food or pitch in for the food? It was still a private picnic not a public sale of food for profit. It was a blatant attack and show of force pure and simple not just some government lackey run amok...

Next time you have a pizza party and people pitch in you better get a permit...

If you would actually look at whats going on you would see that there is no reason for the FOOD POLICE except that the Food Privatizing Global government bunch are trying to control all sources of food thus can charge like hell for it . This is one of the population controls the G8 boys want. People have eaten free grazed beef and unpasteurized milk for ever . Why is it a health risk all the sudden ????

This is when you BBQ the inspector.

How could the health inspector say the food was unfit for pigs? In Las Vegas they take wasted food from casino buffets and haul it off to pig farms and feed it to the pigs. How can this thrown away food be any better than her farm fresh organic food? I'm pretty sure if it were me the health inspector would have gotten my pimp hand.

SUBMIT to the regulations and controls? You didn't mention whether the regulations were right or wrong but just submit anyways.

hmmmm.

Peace

This is almost as sickening as restaurants not being able to give leftover food to the poor. Ridiculous.

There were more of them than there were of him. They shouldve ganged up on him and thrown his ass off their property.

They dont want us to know how to be self-sustaining, they want us dependent on the Govt and the Corporations that line their pockets.

Agreed, why would they even allow a person on private property that they knew was going to react that way. The USDA inspector was trespassing, in Colorado she could have been violently thrown off the property with no repercussion.

This whole thing seems like a set up if you ask me, it was a private party and the food was not being sold. No state in the US has any laws against this kind of activity.

Although I do agree with our right to make decisions for our self's this whole video was a set up.

The setup angle seems a little interesting since the interviews in the video seemed a little "weird". But, I think the real reason it seemed like a set up is that the American public is so used to giving in to the authorities that they figured "I will make a Video about it" aka Produce a video for the public. Real Americans, no disrespect, wouldnt have even allowed this person on the property at all.

But, isnt this the problem in our society anyway?? There is no more fight in us. Its a set up either way. The Farmers knew that something was going down and the PTB knew what was going down.

So, if the Farmers refused entrance, would the Swat Team be called out and this potentially could of been a much bigger story?? I dont think so. Look at the People who were interviewed. No fight in them. At all!!!.

Either way, its wrong. Just like the Patriot Act was wrong, just like so many other things over the last 15 or so years have been wrong. No one will do anything about it. Thats the Problem.

I totally agree that there is WAY too much government involvement, and that because of that it hinders competition thus hindering our economy.

However, didn't this sound like a propaganda piece promoting validation of this "FTCLDF"?

Holding a commercial event on your property, without forgoing everything everyone else does to do so, seems like an unfair advantage doesn't it? Even if this was a non-profit dinner intended for people who don't make much, (I believe I read that somewhere) that would also be considered a marketing campaign in a small community.

Give out X amount of stuff, see Y amount of return from the publicity...

I love Canada a little more every time I see stories like this, we don't have those probs here "so far" knock on wood... You can buy food from farmers that wasn't chemically treated and I'll tell you what it taste much better and feels way better after you've ate it than most of what you get in stores...

Where I live you can pay farmers to raise, grow your own cow or beef or whatever you want and when the time comes they kill it and cut it and pack it for you and deliver you a huge box of nicely and very well cut, individually packed meat in any shape or form you want... hamburg, steaks and all.. I've visited his place where he cut it and trust me its cleaner than any store fridge I've ever seen looks like something out of M.Net commercial...

In Fredericton there's something called the "Meat Market" where you can go buy tons of food made by farmers and it range from meat, sausages to cheese and pretty much a little of everything u can imagine much cheaper than stores stuff and all and its all home made and its DELICIOUS... no conservation agents and this crap... They been doing it forever and I've never heard of a complain or accident or food poisoning...

This is all BS to make the industries run and government steal taxes...

That food inspector should have the money she cost them deducted from her pay, fired and be forced to submit to a psychological checkup before being allow to apply for another governmental job...

This was was a private pic nic. This would be like the health department wanting to inspect your thanksgiving dinner before you eat because you raised the turkey on your farm or shot it in the wild? You guys miss the point entirely.

If it was a private picnic, then why did the farmers apply for permits?

Ummmm....................Wow, another boncho bull...In your miniscule mind, my family reunion would need a "permit". And we would have to pour bleach on all that venison loin, because there wasn't usda stamp ink all over it. You always seem to fall on the opposite side of the fence with your posts, from the norm, I mean.

You get the YouSir are an.......award............please insert proper adjective..............what a boncho bull

Back in '06 in my Canadian neck-of-the-woods this incident involving a health unit authority dousing egg salad sandwiches with bleach at a fundraiser made headlines:

Egg salad runs afoul of law

In spite of this particular group of individuals having a long history of providing the same food at this same fundraiser, the local health unit decided to bring the hammer down on them in a pretty humiliating manner. Sadly, Canada is not immune from this type of heavy handedness.

I'd like to see this inspector and her cohorts raiding fast food restaurants where the REAL CRIMES are taking place... People need to wake up and see what is happening! My grandfather is rolling in his grave... My grandparents grew up in the Depression era and had such a love for nature I know this story would sadden them. I really don't care what kind of gathering they were having... If it's on private property and they're not sacrificing animals or children then good grief leave people alone! The fact that this crap is going on in my country really upsets me. It's INSANE. Why aren't they out looking for real criminals or raiding the corporate farms that treat their animals so horrifically.

When you can no longer have a meal with friends and family at your own home without the government getting involved... Well I guess this is no longer America.

If you're the kind of person who tries to justify this crap then you're not American. You've sold out to the bs of thinking you're safe by handing over your rights.

When the time comes I'm sure you'll drive yourselves to the FEMA camps... Cause you know, that's where the government is going to take care of you and protect you...

I seriously agree with you on both your points sir.The people should have thrown the damn government agent off the property with extreme predudice.Of course then they'd all be arrested with ridiculous charges and sentences. And this is because it does assist the enslavement. The government has now become out of control ...
