Do years of reading the New Times investigative journalism pieces count? I didn't have to pretend, I just didn't link to the stuff. Now I did. Happy reading. Again, the dude is super slimey.

The self-described "Toughest Sheriff in America" has fostered horrendous jail conditions, reckless police operations, and carried out personal vendettas against political rivals and members of the press. In the last year or more, he has also appointed himself enforcer of the nation's immigration laws in Arizona, and a whole new series of problems has emerged. Foremost, he and his deputies have violated the Constitutional rights of brown-skinned U.S. citizens and have committed outright cruelty against the undocumented. Or one from 1999 that includes dirty politics and illegal surveilance:

For six months, Sheriff Joe Arpaio has ordered one of his employees to spy on a key member in the election campaign of Tom Bearup, the only announced candidate seeking to unseat Arpaio in 2000.

The wife of a deputy who has performed that surveillance has come forward, and her story, along with court documents, indicate that Bearup campaign worker Jim Cozzolino has been closely watched by deputies working out of the sheriff's enforcement-support division, which is overseen by Arpaio aide David Hendershott. New Times has been told that Hendershott's detectives have confiscated Cozzolino's trash to produce dossiers of information and may have illegally tapped Cozzolino's phone lines.

This news comes as Rick Romley says he's received information of his own that Arpaio has been using his deputies in possibly illegal ways to keep an eye on people Arpaio doesn't like.

And that doesn't even get into all the s**t he's pulled in the 13 years after that point. Dude is dirty, dude is slimy, dude definitely has stuff for DOJ to find, but what does he have on them that they backed down? That's my question.

Sadly...too true. Of course some of it is that some of them are above the law but that's another story.

Funny thing, you offer the New Times, a free, weekly tabloid as the sole "source"of your rant/opinion.

I was first published in connection with a New Times "investigation." Thus, I have first-hand knowledge of your "source."

Piss-poor research, and ad-driven articles are the rule there, If you want to stand on hippie news as your substance, go for it.

Bottom line is that the DoJ "professionals" with a real axe to grind followed the New Times "leads," and they went nowhere.

That depends 100% on whether the people are finshed with the Obama/Holder/DoJ selective enforcement.

Could be that the whole group goes by the wayside and "Ol' Joe" goes after some of them!
