I really believe we do try and help and because we police, everyone looks at us bad, but the world is a better place with us here possibly. I say that, because somebody needs to step up and maintain order in such a young planet. It's like the early earth. You have the few who have matured and the few young with deadly weapons who need to be controlled[Iran], but hell, we keep everyone in check so far. And seriously people, nobody should fear a US invasion unless your harming your own people.

Bring it on.

The neo-liberal agenda creates poverty and it's cruel and short sighted. This unjust system called capitalism is outdated and unfit for any civilized country. Greed can not, and should not, be the foundation of a society.
USA is forcing this free market system on all others calling it democracy. The EU isn't innocent in this either.
And it's impossible to answer if the world would be a better place without USA.
This US dream of empire is not welcomed by most of the planet. Your environmental record is appalling.

And lets not bring anything on. Lets just talk.
Thank you.

Oh PLEASE! As we post...Youths from all over the World are using a U.S. Military Developed...INTERNET to pierce through their country or origins Internet Filters with Smart Phones using U.S. Created Social Media Sites to communicate!

The Middle East...and I have been there...with the exception of Jordan...is a Prison for it's own people! Iran will soon fall to it's Democratic seeking Youth...Egypt has already changed...Syria is a mess as that regime will kill as many of it's own KIDS to stay in power.

Do you know what I truly FEAR? It is that some idiot will explode a Dirty Bomb and the U.S. Military will have to make an example of the Middle East. We have weapons that are just as powerful as nukes but do not have the nasty radioactive side effects. Some day...some Religious Idiot will go to far and a Wide Beam Laser will Vaporize entire Middle Eastern areas. Terrorists are not scary...a wounded American Public IS! Split Infinity

You do realize that dirty bombs are not effective.

/snip
From a “nuclear” health standpoint, as described above by the IAEA, the likelihood
of immediate casualties from the dispersed radioactive material is insignificant.
Anyone close enough to the device to be harmfully irradiated would sustain far
greater injuries from the conventional blast effect than from any radiation absorbed.

21
Offsetting this is the psychological fear engendered by the fact that radiation is
invisible to the human senses, and the public perception – capable of being
sensationalized by the media – that an insidious threat to life exists for the survivors of
the blast. The most effective means of safeguarding public health, the evacuation of the
vicinity pending technical assessment, would tend to reinforce such perception, and
would therefore need to be conducted in such a manner as to minimize the inducement
of panic- which panic could well lead to more casualties from traffic accidents among those
fleeing than would result from the radiological contamination itself

The situation is clouded by the fact that the reasons great powers send their children off to war are rarely the reason they sell to the populace.

As with other countries US foreign policy is generated from self interest (or more accurately the self interests of the controlling administration in any given period).

Statements about policing the world for the good of humanity are balderdash. Where its in americas interest to promote peace and stability it will. Where its in its interest to ferment revolution and bloodshed, it will.

All nations operate this way. Its just that none else has the global footprint to match the US. The United Kingdom once did. As other powers rise and america continues to wane then the influence of others will become more visible and they will become the bogey man in turn.

The other point to make is that there is a tendency to ascribe everything to a 'master plan' when it more accurately the result of human failing. The current situation in Iraq arises out of a diplomatic failure to handle Saddam correctly at the turn of the 90s.Saddam is best thought of as a mafia henchman who got confused orders and having 'gone rogue' had to be killed to placate the heads of other Mafia families. He was useful where he was, he just wasn't considered worth losing the support of gulf arabs over. He then had the gall to not topple when intended and become a persistent inconvenience. It took until 2001 to find a plausible excuse to go finish him off. The consequences of finishing him off and giving democracy to a majority Muslim nation with a 60/40 Shia/Sunni split in that particular geographic location have yet to unfold.

It's funny how the knee jerk anti U.S. rhetoric conveniently ignores the billions in foreign aid, global disaster relief, technological innovation, scientific contributions and educational opportunities etc. that the U.S. contributes for the betterment of the world.

If the U.S. was truly the global tyrant that you disingenuously choose to portray we would not practice soft international diplomacy but instead force our will upon others through military force alone and there would be little to stand in our way.

The post WWII world has been a time of relative peace, there has not been a direct confrontation between the major world powers (and the catastrophic loss of civilian life that accompanies such events) for 67 years which is a record in modern history.

The restraint shown in the limited confrontations the U.S. has become involved with in recent history only reinforce the fact.

When China intervened on behalf of the young DPRK in 1951 Korea, Harry Truman kept the war contained to the Korean peninsula rather than expanding the war into China or resorting to nuclear weapons despite tremendous military pressure to the contrary.

The whole debacle of Vietnam would have been over in 1965 had we ignored world convention and strategically bombed the North as was made painfully evident from the 1972 linebacker II campaign that forced the Democratic Republic of Vietnam to ratify the Paris Peace Accords.

When the NVA violated the treaty and invaded the south in 1975 (two years after the complete U.S. military withdrawal) the U.S. did not a initiate punitive bombing campaign and left the destiny of Vietnam to the Vietnamese.

U.S. intervention was pivotal in reigning in the Israeli counter invasion of Egypt and Syria while ultimately brokering a peace agreement that saw the Sinai being returned to Egypt along with a lasting peace between Egypt and Israel.

The U.S. did not rise to the bait and attack Iran when members of the Islamic revolution stormed the U.S. embassy and took our citizens hostage nor have we expanded the multiple confrontations in the Persian gulf in retaliation for Iranian attempts to interfere with global shipping in the Persian Gulf.

The U.S. defeated the communist coup and Cuban invasion of Grenada, reinstated the Grenadian constitution and immediately withdrew, leaving Grenada to its citizens.

The U.S. removed the tyrant dictator Manuel Noriega from power and returned Panama to a civilian constitutional government.

The U.S. expelled the Iraqi invasion force from Kuwait, destroyed the Iraqi military with minimal civilian casualties and returned Kuwait to its rightful government. Of note is that the U.S. resisted the temptation to go beyond the U.N. mandate and expel Saddam Hussein from power.

U.S. peacekeeping forces attempting to bring order to lawless Somalia were killed and their bodies paraded through the streets. Had the Rangers in question been the ruthless shock troops some imply they would have indiscriminately opened fire and saved themselves, killing hundreds in the process.

The U.S. led NATO coalition stopped the Serbian ethnic cleansing of the indigenous Bosnians and brought relative peace to the Balkans.

The 2003 invasion of Iraq removed the tyrant Saddam Hussein from power and the U.S. military has since withdrew, leaving the destiny of Iraq to the Iraqi's. It is hard to argue that U.S. motivations were economical as China is receiving the bulk of Iraqi oil production.

The ongoing occupation of Afghanistan is slowly bleeding the U.S. yet we remain engaged with the hope that a successful secular Afghani government will eventually mature and become self sufficient or would you prefer the Taliban were returned to power?

In short the U.S. has done more to secure global peace and security and paid a strong price in the blood of her young men. A consistent theme that I see with most that denigrate the U.S. role in the world community seems to be a painfully obvious ignorance of modern history.

Some of you should make an effort to educate yourselves before you repeat the anti U.S. rhetoric trumpeting the evil of the country that protects your right to be an ill informed jerk.

Extremely well explained DP.Too bad its wasted upon the ignorant, rude, pompous, hypocritical, self deluded cretins that have decided to spew the same ridiculous, fantastical lines of bull # on a daily basis.Thread derailment and trollish threads and replies has made this a joke glp look alike.Personally I believe we should have left Europe to the Germans and Russians. We should have let the Japenese have Australia.IF my country offers aid in ANY form I shall bombard their offices with charges and complain

This thread is awesome

It has it all

The total belief that the US it the center of the universe and going around sticking there nose in other countries business is a good thing. Well heres a fact for you, its NOT. The US used to be a great country now its seen as the bully of the whole planet, going around saying "Do what we tell you and if you don't we will make you" is that democracy??

Is it democracy to tell developing countries what energy resouces they can use? What weapons they can have? Who should be running the country? NO again its NOT

Im not saying the world would be better without the US but it would be better without the US bully everyone. I say bring all you soliders home, not in a year but today and concentrate on your own problems.

Leave Iran, Iraq, Syria, North Korea etc etc alone. If Iran want nuclear power stations, then let them, if they want nuclear bombs then let them. The only county that has exterminated countless lives with the bomb is the US, not once but flamming twice. If anyone shouldnt have them its the US.

The US overseas policy is so flawed, it is creating the very terrorist it says it wants to rid the world of. Terrorist are popping up everywhere, and when they learn to corporate in their mutual goal of taking out the US, then its the end of the world for all of us.

When will the day come when we put aside our stupid flamming difference and chillout

Very true, the US does do some great things but yet again it still needs to stop pushing its weight around.

PS

I love the flag.

You know that's the wartime flag don't you? How about flying the peace time one?

Great idea!Back the most brutal murderous regimes on the planet, genuis. And for the simpletons that use the bombing of Japan guess what?Even if Pearl harbor, the bataan death march and torture of American service men in their POW camps the obvious escapes the barely literate. After thousands of American dead trying to take Okinawathe American deaths were projected to be hundreds of thousands. So why dont you bigmouths try to tell us that YOUR oh so morally would not have done the same if in our spot after 4 damn years yet again defending a weak ass europe.

Can't really argue because any response to an attack on the US, nuclear or otherwise would have terrible consequences.

Was merely pointing out that dirty bombs are not effective and are more psychological because people are ignorant to a dirty bombs effectiveness. Point being it would be much harder to do for negligible results when there are much more damaging conventional ways from an attackers viewpoint. Why jump through all the hoops going radiological when conventional means are much more damaging? Exceptions being nuclear fussion.

It just makes me cringe a little when someone uses dirty bomb as a point of attack.

1. the money we spend would be better served building up our own nation, it's starting to look a little third worldish with is ailing electrical system and potholed road system...not to mention the bridges that seem to occasionally collaspe due to negligence...

2. our national guard and armed services are spread out to the four corners of the globe, some have done four, five, six tours on the front line, they come home mentally or physically, or in both ways crippled, and we fail to make good on our promises to them!!! they are abandoned, and left at the family's doorstep!! deemed to be the "new terrorist" and used as an excuse to take everyone's guns away... but...if they take our guns, just who in god's name will protect this country if it is attacked?? our troops and national guard is has been sent around the world for the last decade to fight our wars???

3. those who were once our "friends" were labeled our "enemies", and now appearently are our friends again, whatever use we seem to have for them at the moment....but it seems that that use is more connected to how the ptb can pocket more money, resources and power for themselves than to what is best for the nation at large..

4. we have been borrowing the funds so we can go around blowing up our "friends", no wait a minute...."enemies"...no, oops, guess we were wrong, they are our friends!!!??????????????wtf?? and we are now on some very unstable ground financially!!! so, oh yes, we need to take the food from the mouths of the hungry children, we need to kick our elderly out of the nursing homes, we need to come up with a nice scam to defraud those nearing retirement from the equity of their homes and the values in their IRA's...and need to cut, cut, cut!!! but, oh yes, we need more wars!! we need to keep borrowing, to pay for our old wars, along with the future wars we are about to create!!!

5. there is a word that describes people who would chose the profits they glean from their wars, and from their financial schemes, over the good of the nation....I believe that word is TRAITOR!!!

Did you have to use Africa, the situation there is ultimately more of the responsibility of old Europe than the US (not that it hasn't some blame but not even close to the same level). You should have used South American or even the simpler facts of life like how you treat your neighbors, even the Canadians pay for having you as a neighbor, especially in the politico-social field, not a good influence at all.

To me the US-Canada relation always bring to mind the Avro Arrow history...

Well...GUESS WHAT? We have made Breakthroughs in Weapons Tech. that will vastly decrease our Military Budget and every Politician with a Military Program in their State will Fight Tooth and Nail to keep building things we no longer need.

With the arrival of the FEL and MEB Direct Energy Weapon Systems...we can increase our Military Power 100 Fold and decrease cost by Half if not more. The CVN-78 Gerald R. Ford will be the First carrier installed with a Nuclear Powered Free Electron Laser as will it's Aegis Class Cruiser. We already have TWO land Based FEL's and a few at sea and we are right now launching specialized Satellites for over the Horizon Targeting as this Weapon can vaporize something as small as a 50 Cal Round as well as Vaporize a Hole through 1000 Feel of Solid Steel in seconds as is reported by Discover Magazine...these will be Nuclear Powered. They also are not only a perfect ICMB Defense but can also widen the Beam to vaporize City Width Targets as well as Destroy a SUB deep under water all the way to the deepest part in the Ocean even though Subs only go down 1000 ft or so. So there is the savings. Split Infinity

It is not the U.S. Military that the American People will EVER have a problem with...it is these Ultra-Left or Ultra-Right Wing Groups. The U.S. Military and Reserves are LOYAL to the Constitution and the American People. I am from a Military/"CIVILIAN" Family and My Girls Brother is the Air Force Reserves as he flew F-15's and had the Honor of escorting Mikhail Gorbachev's Plane as it entered U.S. Air Space.

You cannot separate the People of the U.S. from the Military of the U.S. as they are ONE IN THE SAME!

If some Maniac somehow was elected President and as Commander in Chief of U.S. Military Forces...He is the Most Powerful Man Alive. No other Country has ONE LEADER that can LEGALLY WAGE WAR for 60 Days before the President must get approval to continue to wage war by Congress. This is done under the NATIONAL EMERGENCY PROVISION of the Constitution. Now say some Maniac gets elected and ORDERS U.S. MILITARY FORCES TO ATTACK U.S. CITIZENS that are in the United States and have not renounced their Citizenship or attacked other peaceful Americans...BY LAW...THE U.S. MILITARY MUST REFUSE THOSE ORDERS! Each member of the U.S. Military swears an Oath to protect the Constitution of the United States. Any ORDER even if given by the Commander in Chief...ie...President...that conflicts with that oath cannot be carried out by U.S. Military Personal. Any member of the U.S. Military can and has the OBLIGATION to SAY NO to an order than conflicts with their sworn Oath! That is why you will never see what you have described occur...because I KNOW OUR MILITARY ON A VERY PERSONAL LEVEL...and the sheer size of it as well as the Millions who are vendors or suppliers or Family Members are so integrated into everyday American Life...we have a Military OF THE PEOPLE, BY THE PEOPLE AND FOR THE PEOPLE...even more so than the Government is supposed to be. Never again will Neil Young have to write a song like...FOUR DEAD IN OHIO!
