I've thought about this but everybody knows when you kill an important figure they become a martyr for their cause. Why would the south gain from this? Lincoln was far more friendly to southern reconstruction than his VP

Have any of you heard of the Confederate Secret Service theory? It makes the most sense to me.They had help from certain political and business interests in the North the radical republicans believed in a "hard peace."Which meant that The entire fabric of Southern culture had to be ripped apart and the Confederate leaders tried and hanged for treason.Lincoln felt that in his own words: "We Let'em Up Easy."Meanwhile up in Quebec The CSS operating with the approval of Jefferson Davis began to look into assassination.
