What I would honestly like to know... Did President Obama answer questions off-the-cuff? Or were there a dozen spin doctors in the room - as he typed - spit balling what they thought would be the popular answers.

I'd love to get water straight from the well... but I don't always trust that what we're drinking is really from the source. You know?

You could argue that it's irrelevant - as all politicians listen to their advisers about policy anyway. It would just be nice to get an idea of the actual man behind the spin.

That's a valid question.

He takes questions from reporters and from people at Townhalls...so not sure why he couldn't type out 10 responses to questions on Reddit.

People will always doubt if it was really him...he will have to video tape himself next time actually typing for people to actually believe it.

I can see that your enormous ego is in the way of reality, Barack Obama is an important person, he is the president of the USA. This has nothing to do with worshiping him, it's just reality. He is a human with a very significant job that can affect the whole world.

edit on 29-8-2012 by RealSpoke because: (no reason given)

The whole world you say? I think he is part of a sick charade. The whole thing is a gigantic joke. Obama is an actor. They are all actors. Obama does what he is told. You know that.

And again, big freaking deal. Obama is a man. He is no more important than you. He is no more important than your neighbour. And when people like you describe his being on the net for 30 minutes as an 'event' it is worship.

And who cares what country he is from? Is America more important than the rest of the world too? Politicians are just people. Most of them are losers that do very little. Americans are the worst for this stuff. "I shook the Presidents hand". Well yay! How special. Its the celebrity worship culture that America encourages thats to blame. You see your politicians as celebrities more than you see them as politicians.

Its no wonder when you see your politicians pumping up a crowd they resemble a WWE superstar or something. Thats what you people respond to isnt it.

Obama is a slick one that's for sure.

I question whether the "Q's & A's" were even in "real time".

My guess: Rehearsed 100%

I question whether Obama himself was even "at the keyboard". I suspect a ghost writer with ghost questioners.

I bet the whole thing was simply a Campaign stunt.

The questions seemed canned and so did the answers.

The one about the space program is suspect and reeks of a classic deflection:

Q: ormirian

Are you considering increasing funds to the space program?

A: PresidentObama

Making sure we stay at the forefront of space exploration is a big priority for my administration. The passing of Neil Armstrong this week is a reminder of the inspiration and wonder that our space program has provided in the past; the curiosity probe on mars is a reminder of what remains to be discovered. The key is to make sure that we invest in cutting edge research that can take us to the next level - so even as we continue work with the international space station, we are focused on a potential mission to a asteroid as a prelude to a manned Mars flight.

President Barack Obama's proposed fiscal year 2013 budget for NASA slashes funds for the planetary science program by $309 million — a more than 20 percent reduction of the money appropriated in the previous year. The proposed budget for planetary science includes a $130 million cutback in the agency's Mars exploration program. .. (article from March 2012)

The White House has called for draconian cuts to NASA's budget, forcing the Agency to shelve undertakings that run the gamut from ambitious planetary missions to educational outreach. ... How will the White House’s brutal budget cuts affect NASA?

And with the precious limited timeframe, they still managed to get this in:

Q: silent1mezzo

What's the recipe for the White House's beer?

A: PresidentObama

It will be out soon! I can tell from first hand experience, it is tasty.
still no straight answer !!
I wonder what they call the stuff?

No, you can't really prove things over the internet because you can just make any old picture and put it out there as "proof". Funny how that works huh?

I wonder if they remembered to set his watch to the right time?

Do you have anything constructive to add? You seem to miss the damned significance of this event. It's like the fire side chats except thousands of times more personal and genuine. This is the POTUS interacting with individuals on a one on one level through the social and intellectual subconsciousness of the human race [the internet].

If he had answered some GOOD questions, I would agree with this. Seriously, what about the NDAA bill, or invading forces from other countries, etc?

I don't care what anyone says, Barack is sorta with it

You know, all politicians are fake, the very nature of the job, when it comes to being Potus you have secrets many of them, everything from actual military tech, the genuine reasons behind some of our crazier policies and so on...

Surely there is only so much you can actually say and things have to be kept to the "public level" which is why anyone with half a brain feels deceived most of the time sadly information that Some of us might be handle most of us probably can't

None the less

Dude went on reddit, the guy likes comics he's kinda Mod

I doubt seriously he has an islamic agenda (methinks he's more of a "religion is bs"

I don't think race is the factor people think it is, I think people promote what they are and what he is, is multi racial and while that is not a plus for some it's not a "Black agenda" either

The guy by nature seems while socially Liberal a fairly conservative guy personally

Too much nonsense is put off on this man, he is... very typical of his generation, relatively open minded and unlike Sarah Palin he knew what Reddit was and Anon hasn't managed to hack his e-mail lol

This guy isn't so bad... agree with him on somethings or not, he's kinda cool

Yeah but you are forgetting he could just fabricate a video, or it could be a double, or a life-size model decoy or it could just be a trick with loads of lasers and mirrors n stuff.

Sigh.

Isn't in incredible that all the crowds bay for someone 'like us', someone who connects with the people - yet when someone literally does that, you cant't hear anything for all the booing.

If Ron Paul did this, then there would be calls for a sainthood.

He (along with other Republicans) warned about it on many occasions. Of course he has a devoted media to also held bury this fact.

Republicans WROTE the bill to repeal the glass-stegal act, that was the main cause of the crash........Only 5 out of 200 republicans voted to NOT repeal it.

Republicans were warned about it? They directly CAUSED it.

So did Clinton, as he signed it....have you not realized both parties work for the banks yet?

When Clinton signed the Republican repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act, he planted the seed that grew into the housing bubble crash and the need to bail out Wall Street - and the Democrats have been left to reap that crop.

One doesn't have to be pro-Democrat to be anti-Republican. There is a lot of good - and bad, in both parties, so the more accurate finger-wagger should address the nuts-and-bolts instead of the whole engine. Obama and the Democrats are getting the blame for not fixing the current economic crisis - and it's true, they aren't, but it's also true the current crisis wasn't entirely of their making. They helped in many ways, but it was the removal of the safety barriers in the Banking Act of 1933, (Glass-Steagall), that allowed our financial markets to careen off course.

The Glass Steagall Act was worthless due to the way it was written.

The term Glass–Steagall Act, however, is most often used to refer to four provisions of the Banking Act of 1933 that limited commercial bank securities activities and affiliations between commercial banks and securities firms. Starting in the early 1960s federal banking regulators interpreted these provisions to permit commercial banks and especially commercial bank affiliates to engage in an expanding list and volume of securities activities. By the time the affiliation restrictions in the Glass–Steagall Act were repealed through the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act in 1999, many commentators argued Glass-Steagall was already “dead.” Most notably, Citibank’s 1998 affiliation with Salomon Smith Barney, one of the largest US securities firms, was permitted under the Federal Reserve Board’s then existing interpretation of the Glass-Steagall Act. Clinton publicly declared, "The Glass-Steagall Act is no longer relevant."

I like it. I just wish more of these politians would be so willing to open up a bit more and be real with people. Not everything has to be a game you know? People respect honesty. With that said, a Reddit conversation doesn't sway me to actually cast a vote for this man. Obama has shown which direction he wants to take this country in and it looks nothing like what our founders invisioned. With that said, Romney is no better.

In my opinion, it has to be anyone but Obamney 2012. Gary Johnson it is.

If Obama came on here he would get his arse handed to him on just about everything even from someone who would support him. Most of us can read through the lies. But to be honest i would do that to just about every politician. Someone should have asked why he got Eric Holder out of the hot water considering he him self "knew nothing" about fast and furious lol.

if the president came here to ATS, he would have to answer questions like:

what happened to the spacecraft and its occupants that crashed in roswell?
what's it like inside area 51?
can i get a pass to the underground denver airport bunker for me and my family?

it would be pretty cool to see a high ranking official log in and chat.
the president can use a photo of the oval office mens room as his avatar. it would be pretty cool.

Wow.

You're whole life revolves around his guy don't it.
Seems like every post I see from you is either about Mr. Obama or defending him against his haters.

I know your gushing over this but it really isn't any different than any other president doing a speech or meeting people to talk to them. He is using technology that most other president's didn't have so that part is ground breaking.

unfortunately that does not make up for really poor policy.

Ya seem to have a little Kool-aid stain there on your lips....
