I dunno about blizzards billing policy with foriegn accounts... Particularly Iran.

You're correct about the newbie trial period. Free until level 20.

I stopped paying blizzard a couple years ago. However I have wasted many days of my life wrecking newbs on pvp servers with my high level hunter, warrior and rogue.

Still a fan of their products, but I have found nearly the same entertainment value out of free mmorpgs.

You'd have to sift through all that information and wow is the biggest online game last i checked, that's quite a lot of chatter and since it's localized to the wow servers would it be intercepted by the govt software that can quickly identify keywords without them having to download it nightly to the gov?

Even if they did do that nightly that's quite a window after attack instructions have been given for things to be missed no?

I have no idea if the software our spooks use can intercept such communications across the net, somehow with all the hooplah over phone systems and facebook and other widely used systems of communication they do intercept via computer like e-mails etc I doubt rpg games were high on their list after 9-11

Then again i have no idea just supposition

Just a hunch imho that it feels more like closing down lines of communication they can't monitor prior to war particularly after it came to light that bin laden used porn to send information

One of these things is not like the other...

1: Gamers.
2: People that get out of the chair, step away from the keyboard and protest in the real world.

A short list I know, but I'll be damned if I can see it.. lol

I'd be hard pressed to find those stats on short notice but I have looked them up in the past and they break down sort of how you would expect them too, The Israelis have the hand in alongside Christians in the MSM, Islam has a huge advantage in both paid and unpaid posters on the Internet although it's not like every major religion doesn't employ them, next in rank would be China for which as we would expect use of techniques for selling products outstrips the rest of the world put together sensibly of course and non religious they have the money making game down to a science, both the democrats and republicans have surprisingly large numbers of activists although payment has to be very dicey.

I sell ads it's my job to know this crap.

That is a very pathetic and pitiful move to deprive a pastime hobby to individuals. Whats next in sanctions? Food, water? Those people will now join the Iranian army to get revenge in the event of war now methinks.

If being deprived of WoW is what inspires someone to join an army, then i will change my stance on torture and hope that person suffers as much as humanly possible.

My thoughts exactly, I mean this is absolutely ridiculous

But t is also pathetic!

I just started a thread on this but have alerted the mods to trash it since there is no purpose in having two threads on this topic.

You know that's a good idea.

This will seriously cut down on the Iranian understanding of how to Tank in a fight. By the time the war starts they will have snipers running out in front of the battle, they will have no idea how to surround an enemy in close quarters , medics on the front lines getting pwnd left and right no one will remember to loot when they do win a battle and they will have no way to map the terrain anymore.
.

Hilarious comments -- my guild and I spent the entire evening looking at the new talent changes and going "Whaaaa....?" I generally play holy priest and those changes are minimal -- but I'm afraid I looked at my death knights and said "uhmmm... I'll worry about that later."

The idea of in-game exchanges is interesting and (having been wizard on a big MUD) would indeed be a pretty easy way to communicate and a difficult method to track by others. Yes, the servers record everything -- but hunting through the logs to find suspicious activity out of tens of millions of players and PROVING it was more than idle chatter would be a nightmare.

On the bright side, as you said, maybe we can deflate the war by making a number of talent and rules changes.

...or just send them after Garrosh. I've got my lovely wand (now that they took my mace (sniff)) all ready to give him a Very Good Zapping.

This isn't constructive foreign policy.

All it will do is educate Iranian's in the use of public proxies just like it did in China.

That's where the real game is and is definately far reaching and constructive than you may presume possible..

The sanctions were NEVER meant to hurt the Iranians commom People.

Education comes in many forms, and is the only way to elevate societies away from tyrannies whom intends to keep the common masses stupid but bright enough to only herd goats.

I didn't realize that many Iranians actually played that horrible game.

Anyways, a lot of online games (not just American games) have problems courting players in places like the middle east and China. The Chinese for example require gaming companies to go through their companies by proxy in order to sell their game and make public servers there. There is a Russian game called World of Tanks that was having problems with this so they had to go through Chinese companies to make it available to players there.

I applaud Blizzard for finally getting with the program. But ...wtf don't they realize all these people have to do is take a portal to Shattrath and login from there? You can probably be certain that some department in the government is scanning trade chatter and in game mail for intel. Doesn't make sense to force them to go covert and lose that intel. Maybe this is why lag is sooo bad this patch having to route around a country takes time. Anyway roflmao see you in Pandaria.
