1. China is in their back yard.
2. China has not waged war on anyone in decades. Contrast that to the U.S. and you have at least (not counting covert):

Vietnam
Iraq, twice
Afghanistan
Panama
Grenada
Somalia
Pakistan
Yemen
Libya

Most Americans are too blind (or irrational) to see it, but it is a matter of fact as evidenced by history that the U.S. is the world's greatest threat to other nations.

Beyond border clashes China's military adventures have been contained by the US. Do really thing China would not have occupied Tawian and all the Spratly Islands at this point if they did not have the US to deal with? Unlike the US, China does not invade, rebuild and leave they keep what they take. Also keep in mind that cheap Chinese and Russia small arms have supplied most of the wars fought on the planet over the last several decades from large conflcts to internal civil conflicts. Do not think for a second China is some peaceful dove sitting the corner. They like most nations do what is in their best interests. The presence of US power keeps them doing much just as it does across the world. The threat of the power has created the most peaceful time in human history. Have no doubt the US acts in its own interests but, the world has benefited from it a great deal. Should the day of US power end, then you will see arms races and regional conflcits sprark across the globe.

Until you get invaded by the Chinese. Then you'll be begging for America's Help. Kinda like Europe 60 years ago when the Nazi's Invaded.

As the French used to say "# you Americans! What the Germans are here??? We love you Americans!"

As an American I'm all for cutting off Foreign Aid and Pulling back our military. Lets see how well the free world does when American is there.

You make a great yes-man for American imperialism. It's amusing to me that you claim the US empire is a bringer of peace, particularly as it has been one of the biggest warmongers of the 20th and 21st centuries. In fact, there hasn't been a time during the entire 21st century so far where the US was not occupying or destroying an entire nation.

JBRiddle:

As the French used to say "# you Americans! What the Germans are here??? We love you Americans!"

What? The French have always been historic allies and big supporters of the US. Your country wouldn't exist were it not for French arms and naval support during the revolutionary war. All the chest-beating in the world won't re-write the fact that your two countries have been great buddies for nearly the entirety of the USA's existence, except for, of course, its refusal to engage in the Iraq War.

On another note, I'm not sure why so many Americans get so defensive when something like this happens. It's almost like you're personally offended that other countries don't want your troops having bases there. Would you like it if foreign powers had military bases in the US? If it's so problematic for other countries to refuse US military bases, then surely you won't mind Australia and Japan having bases on the west coast, the UK and France having bases on the east coast, Mexico can have a base in Florida and Canada can have some bases along your northern border.

I don't believe for a second any of you would support this, of course.

Furthermore, it's amusing to me how many Americans cry out about how much they hate the government and how much they support Ron Paul's foreign policy of closing down all the bases, but then run to the government's defense whenever people in other countries don't like your military bases.

I started reading this thread, and all I hear is American bashing and blah blah.
Trust me on this, America doesn't want any part in that sinking ship we call Australia.
Selling our mines to the Chinese for pennies, putting a carbon tax on us that we couldn't afford.
Australia is a joke these days.. And Jillian gillard is on the stage telling
The tale... WtfuAustralia

Well done Australia, good on you, we should also break ties in the UK with America, most people who live here I talk too say that the Muslim President in America have been making our own government too pro Muslim, we are not a Muslim nation, it has been Christian for years, we wish it to stay that way too.
We have never heard the USA leader say anything when Christian people have been murdered in Syria this last 2 years, yet every time Muslims get shot by Syrian army he does see it as very bad news and screams to get his army in and help the terrorists to win his dirty war for him.
Many say here that the UK must align with Russia not America, the USA do not seem to be the same country since your leader was put in power, it badly needs to show it is friends of the west again, not it's foe.

Thanks for sharing that youtube. I needed that. I never take myself or my nation SO seriously that I can't have a good laugh now and then and that was good. The Patton parody hit pretty close to home for a lot these days too. Always good to get a little levity in these serious threads.

I do not think that will happen. The money is the important thing nowdays and China can no longer not listen to public opinion around the world if they wanna sell things. They need to keep the economic game going because they are winning it and slowly getting more power anyway that way vs american corperations looting the american citizens to spend money on the war machine and banksters looting the same citizens. The Dollar is probably going down and start inflating. There is a lot of similarities to 2nd world war germany. The difference is that Germany became fasistlike after superinflation while US seem to become it before the superinflation.

The nuclear weapon makes all the difference and keep to much agression in check based on scenario on mutual destruction except for countries that do not have it. But be sure when the corperations can make money on a nuclear war then it will happen. Human life is not important against greed for some people.

Having met many Chinese people, I never met one who didnt like a white person, may not be that screwed after all, at least we would be able to tell the identity of those trying to control us, unlike now

Take it from an Australian living with Chinese people, they are lovley people, the only possible complaint I could have about them is they tend to be easily upset, but it doesnt bother me to much as i'm the same way.

as for americans, I have no problem with the people at all, I mean there are cool people and douchebags all over the world. However I do NOT aprove of the way they try to run the world, and in case you've all forgotten we already have a american base here in Australia it's called "Pine Gap" (might i also add that this is a ufo hotspot)
why don't we get rid of that one too while were at it

Love, Light, and all that crap....

Now if only the Australians would give their people back their guns

I don't understand why everyone thinks we have had all of our firearms taken away from us here in Australia.

We have not. Nothing really changed when the gun laws / amnesty was introduced. Semi auto weapons are still available, you just need to justify their ownership. Everything else is easily purchased as long as you are licenced. There are waiting periods (you cannot walk into a gun shop, purchase a firearm and then take it with you immediately), however they aren't too long.

It seemed to me as though the Australian Government wanted to "appear" to the general public as though they were getting tough on firearm ownership at one stage however, what actually transpired wasn't that strict at all.

Handguns are no problem (including semi autos), as long as you are an active member of a recognised pistol club.

Living in a rural area I can tell you that everyone around here has a well stocked firearms cabinet!

Oh yeah, Americans are always good and Chinese are evil. Tell me, why the hell would China attack Australia?
Wars China is involved in:
Korean war (Because US forces getting too close to Chinese border)
Vietnam war (US invasion)

The only war started by China was the Sino-Vietnamese War. Not a comparison to over 50 wars started by the US after ww2, is it?

Well, how about that? There is always someone criticizing MY, United States of America. When your chasing that Chinese $ you seem to forget what part the U.S. has played in insuring your freedom from oppression.
If it weren't for the U.S., you'd be speaking Japanese. Remember that "The friend of my enemy, is also my enemy" Your country's turn toward Socialism has so clouded it peoples thoughts you think up is down and down is up. Well, on second thought, you'll probably enjoy learning Chinese.

Australia defended itself from the Japanese. Please read up on all the other threads i have had to reiterate this in...as i do not like explaining it for a hundredth time.

Quoting Gillard, (not exact) from Q&A about a month ago "Australia is getting ready for the shift in global powers from western to eastern," I just wish Australia would stop being the worlds b**ch, we have enough resources, do we really need to export/import, we export our best (apart from a certain beer that's popular in the U.K) and import a lot cheap crap, and a fair bit of the time the import is made from our export, ridiculous, If we didn't keep getting involved in other nations fake wars I doubt that we would need a large military force, New Zealand is tiny and they been saying no to these ideas for a long time.
In High schools they tried to teach us Indonesian (1997) I asked why, the answer given was "Because of trade relations" no one bothered learning the language, Time well wasted, could of been learning something of value, so I think maybe Australia should be preparing to be a world example of independence, the more our gov plays with these Ideas the more at threat we become, growing hated by less fortunate countries with real problems,
but hey, what do I know.
