So it appears the actual gunman only shot 1 other person, his intended target. The COPS actually shot all those people not the gunman...

Police officers fired a total of 16 rounds; one officer shot nine while another one shot seven, the New York Police Department said.

www.cnn.com...

Witnesses say-

One of those injured by police told the Guardian that officers appeared to fire "randomly" as they confronted Jeffrey Johnson, 58, minutes after a workplace dispute escalated into a chaotic shootout in one of the busiest parts of Manhattan.

www.guardian.co.uk...

So a guy starts shooting outside the Empire state building and how do cops respond? By "RANDOMLY" shooting into the crowd of people.

These officers should be arrested for dereliction of duty, not be called heroes.

The cops didn't directly shoot the people, the bullets fragmented and the people were hit with the shrapnel. It even states that in the article you linked.

That is silliness. Thats great "cover" from the police department to avoid lawsuits.

Anybody who fires weapons regularly knows shrapnel from 9mm pistols is all but not existent. I frequently shoot at cinderblocks at point blank range, or distance, with ZERO consequence. But these police's bullets are fragmenting all over the place?

Sounds more like JFK magic bullets to me.

You forgot to mention this paragraph from your CNN source,

Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said the bystanders were not hit directly by police, but rather the officers' struck "flowerpots and other objects around, so ... their bullets fragmented and, in essence, that's what caused the wounds."

NYC isn't a cinder block. There are steel framed buildings, with steel trim. Even many of the sidewalks have steel adornments - garbage cans, bus stops, signs, etc.

Bullets ricochet. Bullets fragment. Steel makes them do so. Thus ricochet and fragmentation make perfect sense in a crowded Manhattan street.
