The Rutherford Institute was not even the attorney for the guy. Yes hes been talking alot. Yes he went on Alex Jones. But the attorney on the case is Brian D. Fowler of Troutman Sanders. So John W. Whitehead has nothing to do with his court case.

Brandon J. Raub has been released from the Salem Veterans Affairs hospital and is on his
way to see his family, officials from the Rutherford Institute said this afternoon.
Mental assessment records of Brandon J. Raub describe his as delusional and paranoid in the days before he was transferred to a Veterans Affairs hospital in Salem.

Brandon Raub, a former Marine who has served tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, was detained by FBI agents and police officers at his home in Chesterfield County based upon the nature of content posted to his Facebook page in recent months. Like many Facebook users, Raub uses his Facebook page to post song lyrics and air his political opinions, as well as engage in virtual online games with other users. On Thursday, August 16, 2012, police and FBI agents arrived at Raub’s home, asking to speak with him about his Facebook posts. They did not provide Raub with a search warrant. Raub was cooperative and agreed to speak with them. Without providing any explanation, levying any charges against Raub or reading him his rights, law enforcement officials then handcuffed Raub and transported him first to the police headquarters, then to John Randolph Medical Center, where he was held against his will due to alleged concerns that his Facebook posts were “terrorist in nature.” Outraged onlookers filmed the arrest and posted the footage to YouTube.

This is why you never speak to the cops or any federal agents! It doesn't matter how nice they seem to you at the time all they are doing is fishing for some reason to take you into custody. He should haves asked them for a warrant when they failed to produce it ask them to leave!

Anthony Troy and Brian Fowler, attorneys with Troutman Sanders LLP, were instrumental in assisting The Rutherford Institute to secure Raub’s release.

Not sure but I think the Rutherford Institute does not have its own staff of Attorney's they are more like a lose association of attorney's across the country who volunteer to help with civil liberties cases like this. So its usually a local attorney in your area that ends up helping you.

I noticed that none of the other major news networks covered his release.They were working the "domestic terrorist" angle which went up in smoke
once Brandon's release was secured.
While I agree that this is good news in itself I highly doubt that his release is anything to do with justice. As you say this video
went viral and he got a lot of support, I doubt justice would have been done if this had not ended up being so huge.

They don't need a doctor, they don't even need to see you. All they do is have a doctor sign off on it after you are brought in. And they always do, of course. It is just another system, supposedly to protect us, but it can be easily used by almost anyone with some official capacity. This was probably done to send a message. Seems so anyway. And the doctors must have decided he was a little tweaked because it ended up in front of a judge. He was probably pissed and let them know it. Bad move. When you end up in the ward you have to play their game, and be a nice "normal" person. Go out of your way to be pleasant. And they can find nothing wrong with you so they let you go. I know, my offense was a 5cm brain tumor that was making me act weird. And yes this does remove your 2nd amendment rights. Some sates have a procedure to get them restored, some probably don't...
