The Rutherford Institute was not even the attorney for the guy. Yes hes been talking alot. Yes he went on Alex Jones. But the attorney on the case is Brian D. Fowler of Troutman Sanders. So John W. Whitehead has nothing to do with his court case.

Brandon J. Raub has been released from the Salem Veterans Affairs hospital and is on his
way to see his family, officials from the Rutherford Institute said this afternoon.

Mental assessment records of Brandon J. Raub describe his as delusional and paranoid in the days before he was transferred to a Veterans Affairs hospital in Salem.

"Client believes that 911 was a conspiracy caused by the U.S.," an assessment of Raub filled out by a Chesterfiled County crisis worker states.www2.wsls.com...

For those of you who dont like Alex, Cheers!

Not argumentative, yet we all need to know the truth.

The Rutherford Institute was directly involved, and has made a
statement from their website.

In an unexpected ruling handed down today by Circuit Court Judge Allan Sharrett, the judge dismissed the government’s case against Brandon Raub, the Marine who was arrested by local police and FBI agents, detained in a psychiatric ward and forced to undergo psychological evaluations based solely on the controversial nature of lines from song lyrics, political messages and virtual card games which he posted to his private Facebook page. Judge Sharrett dismissed the petition for involuntary commitment on the grounds that the petition “is so devoid of any factual allegations that it could not be reasonably expected to give rise to a case or controversy.” Raub is expected to be released immediately.

“This is a great victory for the First Amendment and the rule of law,” said John W. Whitehead, president of The Rutherford Institute. “Brandon Raub was arrested with no warning, targeted for doing nothing more than speaking out against the government, detained against his will, and isolated from his family, friends and attorneys. These are the kinds of things that take place in totalitarian societies. Today, at least, Judge Allan Sharrett proved that justice can still prevail in America.”

Brandon Raub, a former Marine who has served tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, was detained by FBI agents and police officers at his home in Chesterfield County based upon the nature of content posted to his Facebook page in recent months. Like many Facebook users, Raub uses his Facebook page to post song lyrics and air his political opinions, as well as engage in virtual online games with other users. On Thursday, August 16, 2012, police and FBI agents arrived at Raub’s home, asking to speak with him about his Facebook posts. They did not provide Raub with a search warrant. Raub was cooperative and agreed to speak with them. Without providing any explanation, levying any charges against Raub or reading him his rights, law enforcement officials then handcuffed Raub and transported him first to the police headquarters, then to John Randolph Medical Center, where he was held against his will due to alleged concerns that his Facebook posts were “terrorist in nature.” Outraged onlookers filmed the arrest and posted the footage to YouTube.

This is why you never speak to the cops or any federal agents! It doesn't matter how nice they seem to you at the time all they are doing is fishing for some reason to take you into custody. He should haves asked them for a warrant when they failed to produce it ask them to leave!

That makes sense, yet it does not negate their influence in any way.

Anthony Troy and Brian Fowler, attorneys with Troutman Sanders LLP, were instrumental in assisting The Rutherford Institute to secure Raub’s release.

Not sure but I think the Rutherford Institute does not have its own staff of Attorney's they are more like a lose association of attorney's across the country who volunteer to help with civil liberties cases like this. So its usually a local attorney in your area that ends up helping you.

Right Left Republican Democrat. They are still the same PR guys they just chose a different side of the same coin.

The Rutherford Institute has worked with a number of similar groups across the political spectrum, including the American Civil Liberties Union, the Cato Institute,[12] the Constitution Project, and the Liberty Coalition. The Institute has received some level of notoriety for its various legal actions, including helping Paula Jones pursue a sexual harassment lawsuit in 1997 against then-President Bill Clinton.

Jesse Jackson wants your guns, your money and your allegiance.
He seeks race wars and class wars.

I noticed that none of the other major news networks covered his release. They were working the "domestic terrorist" angle which went up in smoke once Brandon's release was secured.

While I agree that this is good news in itself I highly doubt that his release is anything to do with justice. As you say this video went viral and he got a lot of support, I doubt justice would have been done if this had not ended up being so huge.

This is scary as hell. This basically confirms the reports werr true. They arent trying to strip us of our gun rights, theyre going right for our right to exist. i think im gonna buy a case of .223. Anyway, i was skeptical about the whole thing. Its not good when 90% of ats believes evrrything they see in a youtube video with no evidence whatsoever.

America is dead. Theyve finally done it

If i am not mistaken. Didnt i read some where that, according to state law, he could be detained in the Asylum for up to 30 days without reason?

I am not sure how the judge could order his release when he can be held for 30 days without reason.

It's nice to see a positive piece of news now and then.
But this whole ordeal, in light of this news, seems kinda fishy to me and I can't quite put my finger on the reason.

It already is the law. Civil commitments in most states are very easy to do. Some Psych nurse or attendant can easily have you committed based on what a cop tells them. They don't need a doctor, they don't even need to see you. All they do is have a doctor sign off on it after you are brought in. And they always do, of course. It is just another system, supposedly to protect us, but it can be easily used by almost anyone with some official capacity. This was probably done to send a message. Seems so anyway. And the doctors must have decided he was a little tweaked because it ended up in front of a judge. He was probably pissed and let them know it. Bad move. When you end up in the ward you have to play their game, and be a nice "normal" person. Go out of your way to be pleasant. And they can find nothing wrong with you so they let you go. I know, my offense was a 5cm brain tumor that was making me act weird. And yes this does remove your 2nd amendment rights. Some sates have a procedure to get them restored, some probably don't...
