Fed confirm statewide raid underway; arrests reported

www.indystar.com

Federal authorities have confirmed that a statewide raid involving more than 300 agents is under way.

An FBI spokeswoman said arrests have been made but would not disclose the nature of the investigation or where the raids were occurring.

A spokesman for U.S. Attorney Joe Hogsett said his office might be making an announcement later this afternoon.

Does anyone have any idea what this could be?

Three hundred agents in a coordinated raid seems like a rather large operation for Indiana.

My first guess was a state wide drug bust but then I realized the DEA would probably handle that type of operation and it's the FBI who made the rather hush hush press release.

The lack of details leaves room for a lot of speculation which also gives us the chance to let our imaginations run wild which I am trying not to let happen, I would like the facts to this investigation.

Any ideas or confirmation from any members from the Indiana area?

FBI conducts statewide raids of drug, gun-running organizations. Fox News Link

Wow seems like something serious. I wish a general location was noted as it would help narrow down the reasons for the raid.

Lets sum up some up the possibilities as mentioned in other threads:

-Round up people for Anti US posts on Facebook
-Arrest veterans as they were presumed to be next threat to TPTB
-Ron Paul arrest?
-drugs raid

Looking forward to an update.

So the DEA, and ATF aren't included in the drug/gun running raid? Interesting.

But the FBI are?

Kind makes one wonder.....

If that were true, not only would their own officers be in prison, but the White House and other federal agencies would be prosecuted too. This implies that drug and gun running are political crimes and those incarcerated are political prisoners.

Thanks for the link.

As other posters said this may be a bit more suspicious than what the link provides, but I have no reason to doubt the information in your link, just have reasons to be slightly suspicious.

Good find if they are related to the same event. The article presented in OP was provided after that fox news article, so who knows.

Since you did not provide a quote from you source here is one.

Shortly before dawn Wednesday, federal agents conducted a series of raids across the state of Indiana as handcuffed and shackled suspects were brought to the agency’s Castleton headquarters.

Fox59 Russ McQuaid reports that the raids appeared to be part of a crackdown that U.S. Attorney Joe Hogsett recently announced against organized crime in Indiana.

Highly unlikely in my opinion, very highly unlikely

I also sincerely doubt that

-Ron Paul arrest?

Almost certainly not ..

This is probably related to some threat against the US, perhaps a terrorist plot has been uncovered, maybe they found a child pornography ring or something like that..

I doubt it's drug related because as mentioned above, the DEA would be involved I'm sure..

300 agents are quite a few... whatever it is, I'll be keeping my eye on it because this is certainly interesting news if true .. and it's right next door to me!

Yea my suspicious were far fetched

Looks like another article is claiming a Drug/Gun raid. Guess OP source was not that quick to the punch regarding the details.

This sounds the most likely to me... though I had know idea organized crime was so heavy in Indiana .. 300 agents? holy cow.. every time I'm in Indiana I just see loads of corn.. maybe they are stealing corn? lol

Good point, why are the DEA not involved. Again this could be due to shotty reporting on the part of the sources. Probably will have to wait for the offical brief this afternoon or another varifiable source.

Very interesting. I wonder if this is an attempt to justify Fast and Furious and project Gun Walker? Elections are coming up and they need to suppress the negativity surrounding these two failures. What better way to do that then to suddenly bust a gun smuggling ring and chalk it up as a win for the failed projects?

From the sound of it, this has happened twice already in Indiana over the last few months.. this is the third raid conducted ... We don't know for a fact that the DEA/ATF aren't involved in today's raid though.. the news said FBI but that doesn't mean other agencies weren't involved.. the FBI is probably better equipped to deal with it if it's as massive as requiring 300 agents in a statewide coordinated effort.

When I was looking into this story I saw some similar raids against biker gangs from a month ago so perhaps this is related.

Like the other poster said we will have to wait for the possible press conference later today.

This may be part of a continuing gun running bust. Last week, here in Georgia, the Outlaws motorcycle gang was raided on gun running.

If they were really going after organized crime they should have simply surrounded the state legislature. Seriously though, I think any crackdown on organized crime is simply to remove some of the older gangs so new ones can take their place.(los Zetas. MS13)
