Fake secret organizations?

I'm becoming more and more weary about particular "secret" organizations that exist, or rather want to pretend that they exist. I propose the possibility of either scammers or trolls that pretend that they are part of an elite secret society and play people into believing in it. For example, it shouldn't be hard to go out and buy a suit and a fedora to just "stalk" some people. This stalking could stem from facebook or twitter where people posts perhaps things that are paranormal or give these people a reason to believe they are being watched by a society beyond the norm.

We assume that we see things that may in fact just be in reality a scam or troll. I don't know who would go through such an elaborate attempt to troll people (obviously people that deserve awards for their excellence in the art of trolling) but scammers have been known as cults over the years. Perhaps they can be something else other than just cults.

That's my two cents, imitators may be a possibility or perhaps a certain group was misunderstood by hoaxers. I don't know, just throwing it out there. Oh and, maybe these fake organizations could be a diversion from the real organizations? What do you guys / gals / reptilians think? (lol)

Jim Mosely and Brad Steiger offer another possibility on the Men In Black meme, if they fit into your thesis:

There are those, however, who believe that certain NICAP investigators significantly overstepped the mark on a number of occasions when interviewing UFO witnesses. The result: they may very well have come across like genuine Men in Black, when, in actuality, they were nothing of the sort at all. Jim Moseley, for example, is absolutely sure that just such a scenario occurred at the height of the NICAP days:

“Doesn’t a name like that – the National Investigations Committee on Aerial Phenomena – sound like an official government group, to you? They weren’t official, of course; they were just UFO researchers, like me and you, really. But, if you’re some yokel out in the sticks who has seen a UFO, and maybe it gets mentioned in the press, and someone comes to your door and flashes a NICAP ID card and says ‘I don’t want you to talk about this,’ you might think it’s the government, or those Men in Black that people talk about. And some of the NICAP people would say that because what every Saucer group wants is the exclusive on the story.”

Jim Moseley’s perspective on this specific aspect of Men in Black lore is very much echoed by legendary author Brad Steiger: “I’m quite certain that in some cases – and I actually accused some of the officials of this organization face-to-face – NICAP were responsible for some of the Men in Black tales. I know that some of their pimple-faced teenagers were coming up to people’s houses, ringing doorbells, and saying: ‘I’m from NICAP, the National Investigations Committee on Aerial Phenomena from Washington, D.C.’”

Expanding on his own thoughts on this specific matter, Steiger notes with keen logic the following: “You wouldn’t have to push it too far when people heard the words ‘from Washington’ and the person flashes a little identity card, to think you have been visited by the Men in Black. And there’s no field of paranormal research that is more jealous than the UFO field. So, if these pimpled teenagers are thinking: ‘This is my case; this one belongs to me,’ then they might have taken – or confiscated – photos and evidence from the witnesses and warned people: ‘Don’t talk to anyone else.’ So, I think that definitely accounted for some of the three Men in Black stories”

I know there are (or have been) fake "Illuminati" groups. In the mid to late 90's there was an "org" website or webpage called Illuminati. The page was 100% racist, sexist, nationalist, vile. More like sadistic neo-Nazis. They charged $1000 per year for membership.

Is that the sort of FAKE Secret Society you mean?

There is a secret society of bacon extremists out there….. It’s a real society, with secret handshakes and symbols etc.

Apparently I heard you need to kill and eat an entire pig to gain entry as a 1st degree bacon lover…..

Once you reach the upper echelon, apparently they give you a plastic snout to wear as a type of ‘god’ and you’re put in charge of a chapter of piglets.

After many years of searching I’m still trying to find out where or how I can join up….. Oh, here it is

I don’t think they are a bacon cult, but one can only hope.

Since a good chunk of the population are anticipating something happening in 2012 its easy to fool them into thinking everything and everyones part of a conspiracy or one of those "secret organizations" And a big chunk of those people want to be part of something bad enough, they will play the role thats played out in their head of some prophet or guru that knows everything, or a "insider"... Anyone can walk around pretending to be something they're not but when they go to sleep in their moms basement with no poon at the end of the day they know who they are.

I sense the lack of seriousness in this thread disturbing

@The GUT, thanks for responding, it was an interesting observation!

@Trexter Ziam, quite possibly. I'm just going on a limb here and wondering if the "official" secret societies are just fake, and if there are fake offsprings.
