Reuters
GAZA (Reuters) - Moussa Arafat, cousin of Yasser Arafat and a top Palestinian security chief, survived an apparent car bomb assassination attempt in Gaza City on Tuesday in an attack that signaled deepening internal faction fighting.

The bomb exploded moments after Moussa Arafat left his office in a heavily guarded convoy. Witnesses said nobody in his entourage was hurt.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the blast, but Moussa Arafat"s appointment in July came at the heart of the worst turmoil since Palestinians gained a measure of self-rule a decade ago.

Moussa Arafat was demoted from the more senior position of Cheif of Security for the PA, to Security Cheif of Gaza after a tremendous outcry at the appointment. The re-appointment was prompted by the takeover of several police stations in Gaza.
