We are currently living in my wifes mum's council house (which she is currently not living in). It's a 3 bedroom which we share with her uncle and brother. My and the wife sleep in the living room, her uncle and brother have a room each too. And my daughter has a room.

the worst case find a empty council property get the same make of lock as on the door drill lock of & replace if you do not leave a sign of a break in nothing police can do ? it will take minimum of 3 plus months to evict you 2 bug them to hell park a caravan in the council carpark next to the housing office you will be housed before you know it .
i know people who have done all of the above and got away with it .the first one works wonders as it costs a fortune to go through the courts plus they will be making you homeless which means they have to house you & your family

Hey, save yourself the hassle with them. They will treat you like crap as well and as far as I'm concerned, they really couldn't give two sh!ts about your family until they send you an eviction notice... I hope you find somewhere for your family. I have been in the same situation a couple of times and its not nice being in that position.

I'll bite.....

First listen you're not alone. True story.... Mad Money's Jim Cramer on CNBC lived out of his car for 6 months prior to starting that show because he was homeless. So it happens to the best of people.

Forget the system. They're not your friends. If you tell them your gonna be homeless they'll likely take your kid. First tap friends, family, relatives. Ask if you could live in there basement for cheap for a time until you can get back on your feet. Thats a start.

If that doesn't work then try local churches and explain your situation to them. Say the same thing, they might be able to help.

If that doesn't work, just go by a cheap van and live out of that. The way you do it is like this....

You'd camperize it so you could sleep, cook etc in it. You park it at a wal mart. You use walmarts bathroom as your bathroom. Then the van as your home base.

You also put out ads on popular classified ad websites offering to do services like: mow lawns, small deliveries, moves, painting, junk removal. And you use the van as your way of doing this business.

Totally get it out of your head that your still staying at the Ritz Carlton. Your gonna have to ruff it for a while unless someone else can help you. If you can't afford a van then you buy a large tent. You bring it to a tent city and you live with them (seriously). Get rid of you ego, your in survival mode here. Beggers can't be choosy.

Where I live, they have a duty to house (temporary accomadation or otherwise) if there is a kid involved.

Vulnerability is key, if you are working, this might be why you are not seen as eligible for help, however, if your wife's mum writes a letter citing she is unable to keep housing you, due to ireconcilible differences, generally speaking I have known them to help in the past.

Basically you have two options....

1) The day you are kicked out, your wife goes down the council, and says she has nowhere for her, and the kid to sleep that night (they have to help, the kid is entitled to shelter to rest).

2)You, your wife, and kid go down the day you get kicked out.

Option 1 has a 100% success rate, you would have to make your own arrangements, and work under the guise of being seperated with a view to divorce (this means remaining seperated until your wife, and kid are permenantly re-housed).

I know this isn't ideal, but take it from one who knows, you have to show you are a priority, the one who shouts loudest gets heard.

I have a friend who has two daughters, the eldest is 9, they have been in the same one bedroom flat for her entire life, I would be in the same situation as her, if it wasn't for me taking the advice I offered to her in the first instance.

Want to know whats REALLY ironic?

Last year a Channel 4 journalist/TV guy decided to petition to our governemnt about the some 350, 000 empty homes in the UK, the documentary he made followed him on his journey, from petitioning at the bottom, to eventually getting to meet the PRIMEMINISTER... He managed to get a new fund set up, which would enable £4,000 in grants to people who wanted to take on these empty homes and renovate them to live in...

I really admired the work he was doing..

Of course throughout the programme he also renovated a place into a 5 bed house..

At the end of the show DO YOU WANT TO KNOW WHO HE MOVED IN?

A FAMILY OF 12 ASIAN IMMIGRANTS!! (See my figure from my first post? not made up! lol)

THAT TOOK THE BISCUIT!!!

Can't remember the name of the programme right now, but it should be easy enough to Google, hey OP! Do some digging into that, and see if you can get that grant

You try paying rent on a cleaners wage.do you know how much private rent costs(clue more than a cleaners wage)No matter what you say it isn't about whether you work or not,its about immigrants being favoured in the housing cue over people who were born and bread here.House and employ your own first then if there are any council houses or jobs left give them to immigrants.

Have you tried the Citizens Advice Bureau. They will be able to help you find services in your area. I volunteer for a homeless charity in my town and am well aware of the problems homeless people are facing, see it every day. It's tough to get a house if private landlords don't accept housing benefit and the rents are extremely high, meaning your probably going to have to top up that rent.
I don't know where you live, but I am sure there will be similar charities to the one I work with, in your area. Don't be afraid or too proud to ask for help that's what these charities are here for with people who want to help.

I can definitely understand the resentment towards foreign workers too. In my town, the jobs that used to be done by by the locals are now being done by those who have come from eastern Europe. When the times were good, recruitment agencies in my town were placing adverts in Poland and Polish newspapers for workers to come to the town. Now jobs are more scarce, it is the local population who lose out.

I believe nothing you tell me. Either you are lying about being homeless and all that stuff or you´re doing pretty well being homeless and sucking money out of others purses.

Guess what the difference between you and ALS is to me?
He´s working his arse off to provide his family (two extra people, keep in mind!) a home and you lazy type of human have the guts to present yourself like this.

In the time you are here on ATS, you could work the other 60% that you are talking about missing. Then you could finally afford your own life. Instead of that crap I wrote above.

Along with a couple of others I was involved in a sort of audit of a Housing Assoiation quite recently, the more we tried to investgate the more disgusted we becam at the entire shape of housing.

We did the maths on one housing associations waiting list and if I remeber correctly it would take about 70 YEARS to clear their waiting list WITHOUT any more applicants being added !

However, certain types of properties were constantly becoming available and certain types of people appeared to be getting properties a bit quicker than others.

Recently the witch hunts conducted by some of the media on behalf of the GOV and ignorant people like The Sun , Mirror, and Daily Mail readers aganst uemployed or low income families has made an already bad situation even worse.

The good news is that according to a friend in the know of the building trade, huge pots of money are to be sunk into building "Affordable" homes , you will see Housing Associations popping up left right and centre.(courtesy of the tax payer)

OK So what kind of things would I do if I were in your situation armed with the types of info that I've come across whilst watching the quangos look after themselves ?

If you have not allready done so get yourself on the waiting list of EVERY Housing Association in the UK , anywhere is better than nowhere, baring in mind most councils and HAs have schemes where you can swap homes with other people later on.

If you haven't already done so register with the charity SHELTER across the whole of the UK.

Consider that different social landlords have different systems for allocating properties such as point systems and first come first served along with needs.

Allways consider that the people who work in these places just want an easy life 4 day week drink,wine and relax in the peacee gardens the weekend for 30K to 150K at the TAX PAYERS expence, they don't give a sh@@ about you so you must do WHATEVER it takes to get a roof over your head.

GETTING AN EDGE

Change your name by deedpoll if necassary either to something eastern eropean or asian.

When filling out forms change your ethnic origin to some minority group, depending on the area you have applied to.Yes I am serious depending on the area Amhed will certainly get housed before Allen and the more kids that Ahmed has got the better.
People that work in Housing Associations deal with databses which are often too complex for the users they just wnat to see a national insurance number then start meeting their targets for housing minority groups etc. They will also be forced to take a very significant number of Council nominees whether they like it or not so stay on the register.

Many social landlords have adopted a system whereby you must keep following their properties that are available so keep loogging into their websites.

EXTREEM Measures

So we wonder why so many criminals don't get a prison sentence ?
You may decide to commit a crime,be sure you get locked up you will get well fed plenty of excercise access to unlimitd education and legal proptection befitting a banker. On release you will need a roof over your head, Housing Associations are raking in millions knocking up hostels and flats and you can have one. If you decide to go back to jail for a bit the polce will come to collect you personally and the HA will even replace the doors and windows that the cops smashed up for when you come home again.

Sorry to say this but you are a stone around the neck of wife when it comes to getting housed, no matter how many statistics social landlords come up with, single mothers allways get first dibs on housing even if it is only a flat.
You could change your sex for a spell as a pair of lesbians with a kid are in high demand when it comes to meeting targets for minorities.
Remeber you can allways change things back once you've got yourself sorted you can swap houses upgrade from a flat to a 2 bed etc.

Please for a minute don't think I'm kidding or making light of your situation I am not, at one point I was living out of my car severly ill with 2 children. No one owes us anything the UK is corrupt from the top to the bottom we have to do what we can to get by no one but no one gives a monkeys about you or me unless they get paid a wage to do so..
