Actually the prediction was "a 99% chance of systemic collapse BY April" (and probably sooner), and Max Keiser isn't the only one saying it... he just added a specific time frame and a glimpse of some details.

Anyone watching current events realizes that something is afoot and a collapse seems destined, and likely sooner than later, so I suspect you often make losing bets.

I doubt it. I've been hearing about the feared $5 a gallon or $7 a gallon gas for ten years now. Never happened. So please excuse me when I laugh at the continuation of the Chicken Little story that "economists" and their ilk love to spread around.

I'll invest in a quality bike and only use the car when I have to. However, I live in Canada, and you can't ride a bike in the winter. Its also hard for many Americans to fathom the fact that our towns are usually at least 30mins to 1 hour apart in my neck of the woods, no public transit, or taxis and miminul greyhound service.
Unless you live in a city, you cannot live without some form of individual transportation.

I know there is a lot of pressure on Canada about emissions, but the fact of the matter is that unless you live this reality, you don't understand how important transport is. We need to get around. Imagine a 6 hour or longer drive to see a medical specialist.

Anyways, as the cost of living goes up, we will have to rely on each other more and more, and that will include sharing what we have with those around us and possibly our communities. We may see more and more of "the neighbourhood resources like tools, gardens, and labour. Hopefully, wages will raise to reflect inflation.

Sorry OP but every year it's always predicted that the following year there will be a "great economical collapse" which has yet to happen. If it does happen then I won't really care about using money to get the things that I need to survive. If I'm hungry, I'm hungry and I'll do whatever I need to do to keep eating to survive lol If it's just the price of gas, I can always bike places or setup a garden.

I'm more worried about what we'll do when milk hits $15 a gallon because we traded all our farm land for housing divisions full of McMansions. Same goes for produce. If 15 years ago you said big box stores like Walmart would be importing potatoes, carrots, and lettuce from countries like India instead of from the heartland of America, you would have been called crazy, right?

I'll bike more often, grow more of my own food, and drive lighter on the pedal. Can produce most of my own food, ride anywhere within 30 miles or so, and drive at over 50mpg if I need to. No big deal. We just gotta adapt. How much is gas in Europe? We got it good right now.

yeah right we all know your gas costs twice what it does over here but none of you ever mention the fact that YOUR VEHICLES ARE TWICE AS EFFICIENT.

BlueMotion technology for example by VW. (many other companies have similar technology) ... mileage approaching 90MPG in a standard vehicle.

Sure if you got £17000 + vat or $30000 to spend!!!

I have a 2005 Renault Scenic 1.6 and I get around 28mpg average.....

Is my car a huge powerfull motor nope its a normal family car!!!!

And how much does the average job pay over there per hr? I am betting it's well above our minimum wage here at least in NY state. There are a lot of variables other than we all ready pay 15 per gallon of gas.

Miniumum wage is currently £6.08 or $9.61 an hour.... your national minimum is $7.25 a total difference of $2.41.... does this difference off set the cost of fuel.... NOPE!!!

Is $30,000 supposed to be a lot? That easily falls within the average price range for a decent brand new car in North America.

So again, you have access to vehicles that provide upwards of 90mpg, for what it sounds like you're admitting: $30,000

Maybe I'm missing something but it looks like you made my point for me.


ps. that tiny little 1.6 L engine should be providing you with 40-50mpg not 28. Either there is something horribly wrong with your car, or you drive like a damn maniac !

Your comments show a total lack of knowledge and experience... I bet you are not even 20 years old.

1. $30k equates to monthly payments over a max of 5 years with interest... Now go and look at the average income of the average american and tell me that the average american can afford to pay!! Then there is the job security to consider... Still feel like putting down $5k deposite??

2. Mpg or miles per gallon on a 1.6 around town is normally 28.. On a longer run can get upwards of 37. As I do mostly ariund town my mpg is 28 average...

I seriously doubt you know what a renault scenic is as it is not a car you can drive like a maniac... Its a mini mpv... Not a chavmobile!

You guys over in America don't have a clue about fuel poverty... You should try living over here and get hit with that £1350 ( yes in pounds sterlin) fuel bill just to heat your house.. Then having to fork out £1200 a year for petrol just to do 80 miles a week average.

So thats an average fuel bill of £2550 or around $5000 a year..... More than 10% of the average annual salary wage here of £17.5k. Not to mention those on national minimum wage!

Well, while everyone else raids the food stores I'd use the little bit of money I have and go buy a bow and some arrows and then live off of the land. I used to be a pretty good shot and luckily I live in a wooded area that I know like the back of my hand. I'd just kill and eat squirrel and live in a hole somewhere until things got better(since from the sounds of it I'd never be able to afford to live in a house or anything).

However, if this was to happen I would imagine that overpopulation would no longer be an issue since a lot of people would starve to death. I'm sure that plenty of species of animals would become extinct as humans were forced to kill and eat whatever they could get their hands on and some would even resort to cannibalism.
